@GeeCeeAte lol, i love how rich people are getting into reusing and repurposing, paying me to make a table out of an old book shelf so they can say they went green, all the while still talking shit about the guy with the small house and the 35 year old truck he has had for 30 years
Sorry but the reason why you chose to live in something like this is the reason why you're forced to. These houses are extremely expensive when you compare the cost per square footage, not to mention it will never be worth more than what you paid for it. Once you start thinking is terms of cost per unit instead of flat costs, you'll start building wealth.
@rlckwd // Your correct about cost per sq ft // If pay have done //You also wright about return on vestment for resale // How ever energy savings alone save them
Now lets do math
say mortgage is 1500 and ultitlies are 450 to 800 per month // total 1950 to 2300 month

now multiple by 30 = 720,000 /now lets invest this // Hum
Now thats not counting ins saved / and up keep or the crap we buy you dont need
@TIGHTWADHERMAN *you're* not comparing apples to apples my friend. You would have to take out a mortgage for a tiny home just like a regular house if you didn't have 20k+ too. Just because a regular house is more doesn't mean you HAVE to take out a mortgage necessarily. If you can save all that money on utility bills with solar and other means there's no reason why you can't do it with a big house too. We need to be efficient not frugal. Consumer spending is 80% of the economy.
@rlckwd I should have been more clear in the video. Our house cost us $12,500. The shop next door cost $6,000, I say '$20,000 because we put additional money into our home and shop once we settled. Our son's loft has been raised up,, hooking up to utilities, getting it skirted, etc. This worked for us because of our financial situation, but it may not be necessary for other people. When you lose your jobs you do not qualify for a mortgage :-) Cost per square foot: around $40.00
@rlckwd Also "it is not how much you make, it is how much you save". SOME of these are expensive houses, ours was not. Upkeep is simple and inexpensive. It is not a traditional trailer in the sense that it was built with cheap, inferior materials. It is a traditional 'stick built' house, but on wheels. We did not set out to see how small we could make it, just that at that moment, this was the size that we could afford. We have since added on, Kirsten will be making an update soon
This house is actually beautiful. Like I would totally live in this one. This right here is the perfect size home for me. I love to cook, and this kitchen is just enough.
I haven't finished watching this, but THANK YOU!!! Most resources I've found are geared to singles, but we've been wondering the practicality of living in a home build on a 28x8ft trailer with our young child. We own a home, but after the last 3 years, we're re-evaluating our lives and hoping to rent the house out and downsize. That happens when you both lose your jobs at Christmas while expecting a baby! However, everything is a blessing in life, even when times look a little dim. :)
I really like the way you live, you look like one happy family and I'm really glad because of it. Who needs a big house that you work for almost your entire life and at the end you discover that you worked for bricks and stuff, been nowhere, done nothing.
for me, this would be enough..I could make it a little bigger but with my knowledge of solar power, engines, and construction, it would work out nicely. I like her attitude about not caring what other say and that "she has everything she needs". The world would want you to live outside of your means but in Japan, this is a normal thing, to do more with less. These folks are still living a millions times more luxuriously than most of the world. This would be enough for me.
Don't worry what others think. My husband and I are doing this also. We are starting a small farm. Our house will be 600 square feet but our in-laws will be living with us. I love your little house.
your son isnt getting the life he needs & deserves = BECAUSE YOU HAVE SOME HIPPY VISION OF LIVING LIKE A DOG IN A CAGE. you really need help if you think its fair for your son to not even be able to stand up in his room. Look at the signs he is giving you... you said it yourself, he sometimes doesnt even leave his 3-foot tall room 2-3days at a time.
YOU HAD A CHILD, YOUR HIPPY DREAMS NEED TO BE PUT OFF!
FORGET YOUR BUNNIES, and get a real job, make enough money to give your child what he needs!
@imstricken06 yes, but they live like kings WITHOUT mortgage and debt! They can save the money and upgrade their home for little money...again without mortgage! They live reality and not some imaginary high life that TV wants you to live.
Thats the problem of todays society, people that live above their abilities are stupid and THOSE feed banks and corporations!!!
@alfazg again, if you want to live outside in a cardboard box - by all means enjoy yourself. BUT ONCE YOU HAVE CHILDREN, THEY NEED A NORMAL PLACE TO LIVE & THRIVE IN. sitting in his room with 3feet between the floor and ceiling is not a way to live. my dogs's create has more headroom. THIS IS TYPICAL CHILD ABUSE. he cant even invite a girl over. he cant even masturbate!!
HIS PARENTS NEED TO FORGET SEWING BUNNIES, AND GET A REAL JOB THAT CAN AFFORD AT LEAST A 2 BEDROOM RENTAL APARTMENT
@imstricken06 Lighten up! Before industrialized society only a very small % would have the luxury of thier own room. Child abuse? Please. This Kid has two loving parents around all the time and is not being babysat by the state. i.e. public "school". I bet he can smoke anyone not in private school on his SAT. U R ego trippin'!
@jamescs1969 thats right! they are happy family living close each other... and they actualy took one step further...the work from home..heey..they have their lil business wich feed them ! Great!!! they have AAA rating!!
@alfazg I'm constantly amazed at how materialistic and judgemental our society is.. I saw a very lucky, smart, loving family/buisness. As a single guy I would gladly trade what I have for a cheap place and a loving partner. If these people are so concerned maybe they should open their homes to homeless unwanted children. Yea I thought not.
@jamescs1969 what kind of irony was that? I live in Croatia - Europe, thats small pretty young country, only 20 years past sience independence and from leaving communism and only thing i can say is that this twisted capitalism that we have today ( that was brought from western, more developed countries ) is nothing but slavery and that concept of working for banks is not fun at all. So you have to be very smart today not to become chain linked to banks and corporations!
@alfazg Nice job with your english! I've given 60,000 USD to the same landlord. I'm trying very hard to educate myself on container, hay-bale, packed earth homes. I must wise up! It is fine to have a large home IF IT'S PAID FOR! This is my goal. A little sacrifice early can save your retirement. I wish to minimize stress for myself and loved ones. One-love from San Diego.
@jamescs1969 hm, I understand what you are trying to say and I agree that if you can afford large home then go with it, but if you can't, then it's better to live like this then fall under pressure and live in big debt.
:) thx for the English, I'm an application developer so I use English on everyday basis.
@imstricken06 yes, and live whole life in rental apartment and paying from month to month for something that will never be yours. this is their lil home and they can upgrade it to bigger home for very little money...without banks, without corporations, without imaginary happiness! Its not life you wake up every morning and first thought is will you be able to pay mortgage this month! and by the way they said that they will rise the roof so kid can masturbate normaly! : )
Nice to see all space used I used to work in people's home were 2 people share 2000 to 3000 sq ft and we wonder why our we have a global crisis its absolutely disscusting all the waste. good job guys
Build a simple garden to supplement your food, you will need it. Bernanke is blowing up the US dollar to keep stock market up on nothing. 2012 election has started so they will burn the currency candle on both ends (dumping more money into stock market) to keep retirement sheep at bay but sacrificing everyone else.
You should have got a used 5th wheel for even cheaper with more room and you can relocate anytime you want. IMO, poor choice b/c at least with a 5th wheel you can resell it and loos very little as where you will not be able to sell that shit box you had built. You've basically made the worst investment of your life unless you plan on living in that child's play house for the rest of your lives. Sorry but I'm being real sister.
@OhioCountryChannel You could find a decent pickup truck AND a 5th wheel for about 10 grand. Buy a piece of "rough" land and park the thing. Living like this--even if it's only for say 5 yrs--- working full time as if still paying a mortgage BUT-- pocketing that money instead of funding yachts for banksters will make you wealthy in that time span-- not them. What a concept lol. 5 yrs passed and you can now buy a full size home with cash. Mortgage = slavery.
@CORRIGEEN71 I live near Saskatoon,SK Canada. +30 c to -30+c weather.
I built a pole style some 1.5ft over grade. Compost toilet with collection under the home. All Fiberglass laminated over 5/8 ply. 6 1/2" insulation. 200amp service with 42 breakers used.
Still building and it has cost us about 18K so far. I love our RM. Did not even need a permit to build. THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!! Still to code :)
who cares what other people think, you do what you have to do to survive and your family should strongly support you and your family, you have no mortgage cut your bills in half more power to you.
@FootLovingDude - Agreed!!!! They're gonna need a bigger place. The way she looks I don't see how Dad can keep his hands off her. I hope they sound proofed the walls. GIGGITY-GIGGITY-GOO!!! :D
I agree that the child may have been lacking eloquence, but aren't most children at that age? A homeschooled young woman I know started a three-year college program at 15, finished it at 17 due to scholarship requirements, and is now writing a book at 18. She is frequently mistaken for being much older, and can conduct herself in settings that range from "casual" to "formal".
This is amazing. I can relate to this. When I was a child we lived in a shotgun house. With just two rooms for 7 people at the time. Although I am happpy to live in a much larger space. I agree with your thoughts. It's what you have and not what you don't have.
This brought tears to my eyes. You are wonderful to live like this. So many people want large home and can't even pay for them, but look at you girl. "You Go".
I really like it. My concern is space for pets that eat & sleep inside. I have 4 cats & 3 dogs and they all sleep inside next to me.... I guess i need an extra room. ;)
I live in a 2200 square foot home with a 600-ish square foot garage. I don't own the house, my family does.
If I owned the house, I'd want the opposite. 600 square feet to live in, 2200 feet of open, heated garage space. Yeah baby, man's dream home. Lots of space for toys and hobbies, and minimal space that needs a vacuum cleaner run over it.
i love this cute house its perfect for newlyweds/retirees. ive always lived in small ranches and apartmentsand never understod why people feel the need to impress their neighbors.its not much smaller than a travel trailer. just proves small can be clean and stylish- could be one solution to our countrys foreclosure problems.
I found this when trying to figure out a way to make my 750 sq ft home easier to live in. We have clutter galore and I will try to remember your motto of focusing on what we do have. Your house is super cute, but some parts are very cramped, like the hallways. Your life is an inspiration. Thanks!
I am so in love with your living situation that I cannot get it off my mind. Just to let you know. I was curious, is this unit capable of being towed on wheels? Or, an option to add them? I am assuming under neath the boarding on the side might be some wheel units? Thanks for sharing, thank you so much.
On your guest bed you could have made the legs double as a back for the sofa so you could remove your pillows and open it as normal but without a need to screw in the legs every time and also no need to find a place to store the unused legs when it is used as a sofa.
Well-done. Your video is very professional-like, very steady and easy-going. Kindly expand on your experience with getting approvals, county zoning, building inspectors, etc. Were there any problems to overcome in that regard? Did you buy a plan or use a prepackaged kit like from Lowe's? Thanks.
Honestly, I would NOT be worried about what people think. I would want to share our discovery, contentment, easier living, less stressful stuff induced/high cost life with ALL.
@SexySev good for, you? I guess? I don't LOVE our home... I love the garden and animals, my family, but at the end of the day the rooms of the home are for pooing, showering, eating, sleeping.. all things they do in this home... and not all that dam time cleaning, maintaining, paying energy bills, high taxes, etc... for.
@pwnage12345679 Our company does not require us to be slaves to the system by working insane hours to just pay for a place with a wine room that we do not need and never spend time with our family or doing new things, taking interesting trips... Maybe?
@MystifyingRhapsody Yeah, great show. How many of those folks have LOST their home because they could not afford the property taxes on the home made for them? Ahhh... the American Dream (B.S.). I always watch that program and think, "Gee, could they not create a sensible 900 sq ft home that the folks could afford to maintain and pay taxes on"? It is a product placement, over the top, show off program. Not geared toward realistic needs.
it's a big misconception that all trailer parts are trashy and it all set my rule property is a long way from the city I live in saint louis I have 5 acres of land it feels like you're in the country in a 15 minute drive to downtown before that I did live in a trailer park the park was very nice even had an inground pool with a clubhouse
I am truly humbled after watching this video. You are so right about the wanting to have a big house full of show off furniture and more square footage than we really need, that we forget the most important fact of life for a family. Your video has brought it back to light that as long as the family sticks together, and adapts together, happiness will naturally follow and everything will be okay.
Terrific idea, and the beauty in it is , not only is it paid for , you could add to it and have just as nice a home as people who pay mortgages for 30 years. Have you thought about building these homes for other people? I'd love to have one.
@davehutchinson67@davehutchinson67 No, $145 monthly. More information for those who have mentioned property taxes: Our property tax on the 'big house' was $957.66 per year, and now we pay $0.00 on property tax. We have the 'Homestead Tax Credit' in our state, which means anything under $350.00 is 'Free'. Our taxes would have been $79.00 a year otherwise (if this had been a vacation home, for example). Smiles
We all (99%) will have to tighten our belts. Most families will be extended with only a few people working for a salary and no benefits. Start studying shamanism because you also will not have health care. At least the ancient native medicine men were not corrupt like our big pharma and insurance companies.
@MrVicist Me too. I appreciate that they prioritized and figured out what they actually needed and could afford, and worked from that attitude rather than one of entitlement. That is the essence of personal responsibility and decency. Keeping up with the neighbors is not what it's cracked up to be sometimes. And I really look forward to having a very small home with a decent sized workshop on the side.
They have it all figured out. I been talking about the problem of "Commercialism" and marketing telling us we cant be happy unless we have a 3,500 sq ft house for a couple who hardly even there, they have to work 60hrs a week to be there. People Peter Saterra on My big wedding telling people they need to spend 3,000 dollars on "Lighting" at a wedding is total "BS!" They are just people selling us crap. We are so caught up on the "Its made in china cheap walmart" forget to ask why do we need it
@rmstudio Heh, our entire wedding, including local food served by girl scouts that we donated to for their help, 120 attendees... was less than 6 grand. Our rings were under $700 each and there just what we wanted. The world needs to stop thinking we need to spend spend spend, own own own.
@djkenny Amen! to all of what you did. Having the girls scouts help out is fantastic. You did the community a service in doing that as well. You taught girls to help out "Not just take from community" as well they learned how to serve food "Future Caterers Possibly :) " You saved that money to use on a good house instead of "John Tortua lame Wedding TV show" Which is utter BS! Its a show were the couples have "ADVERTISERS" pay to provide services N goods for the TV Show weddings to market goods
@rmstudio Agreed. We did not want to go in debt for our wedding. Our budget was 6 grand, no exceptions at all. That included my benetton suit on sale, my wife's dress (she even had a 2nd one to change into) The facility was lovely and $550 for 5 hrs. The DJ, free... I am a DJ and have friends that took care of that. Photos? A friend who is a photographer as a hobby. We had a bike wedding, traveling to and from with a Dutch Box Bike with my wife in front and groomsman on their own bikes.
@djkenny Oh, and we DO own a sensible home in a walkable neighborhood...had we been in debt to our wedding, I think that would have been harder to do.
@djkenny You sir are Green in a real sense not a tree hugger with utter over nonsense. You and the wife just used basic common sense. Funny as I am actually a photographer by trade full time for 18 years. Honestly I see about 90% of my wedding couples being divorced in 2 years and spending money on a wedding they have no business doing. Yet spend little focus on their marriage itself and their relationship. Can we say Kadashine girls on tv "Puuke" Thats stuff turns my stomach. Cheers to you.
@rmstudio Exactly! I Djed a few weddings. Some were 50k, they were no different than some 1500 dollar ones in folks back yards. We wanted to simply be "real", and "realistic". Best to you, rmstudio
@djkenny I know its silly to have more that a 150 guests. Most couples with them big stupid expensive weddings never even remember most of it because there is to much going on. The small inexpensive weddings are so much more fun casual and intimate. The couple get to enjoy and interact with their guests. Stress free and debt free. The other big weddings are just marketing pushers for big vendors trying to convince people they "Need this" Greed comes to mind.
@rmstudio It is a mixed bag for me. I DJed weddings, many that were $1500 including me, my photographer friend, and catered food. To typical $12-19,000, to a $50,000 one. They really were no different. I have mixed feelings because I know folks who love being caterers, handling video and like yourself, photographers. They get paid well and should. But to assume everyone must take this route when they do not have a disposable income... that I think is silly. I was just laid off, would hate debt
@djkenny Agreed. I am talking about those wedding with 250 plus people and the bride and groom never even remember who was there at the wedding. Then spending 1,500 on lighting for the reception utterly out of control even if you do have money to burn to me spending 1,500 to 2,000 on lighting for a reception or 10,000 on flowers is gluttony. Could think of 100 better uses for that money that is burned up in hours, Maybe teaching young kids education or building a shelter for a family etc..
@rmstudio LOL, yeah... lighting.. what the venue "had", and we used strands of after Xmas sale white Xmas lights, several we bought for $2 a pack (now used for the our home during the holidays). Flowers? We went to a You Pick It Farm 30 min away with family in town the day prior and created all our needs out of them. So many for $75. Trader Joe's provided the bouquet, just put a ribbon with pins on it. I need to do a film about saving $ on weddings
@djkenny See how that all worked in your favor but more importantly the important "Values" & good times and memories created around a wedding like yours. Going on a trip 30 miles away with family to do something "Together" towards a couples union. Not just about "Look at me and what I spent and look what designer I used for this or that at my wedding bragging blog rights" "So I can make my self think I am making the girls in the cubical's next to me jealous" You gain far more in that flower trip
I love your home, You and your family are such an inspiration. I also work in textiles and have thought of moving into a caravan (trailer to my cousins over the pond) I have also been thinking to converting a storage container but your home seems so much more homely and warm.
@timroxck these people live happier than most people who live in a huge house but with less human to human interaction. Parents busy working to pay for the house and children were neglected.
I love your space!!!!!!thank you so much for uploading your video. I live in marion va in a 700sq ft house and felt cramped but not anymore .......I can do a lot with what I have ,,,now I know thanks to u guys.
I have noticed several housing developments in my home town which require a house to be at least 2000 sq ft or bigger. What they should do is set 2000 sq ft as a max. With the drought the southwest is going through and the prices of commodities a house of 1000sq ft would suit most families of 4. They may have to work together but isn't that what families are for?
This is the most adorable and cosy home that I have ever seen. One day I wish to own one myself here in Australia. I wish this type of living would catch on in Australia.
Wow! I love your home and absolutely loved what you said towards the end - it's not what you don't have, it's what you DO have. I've been wanting a smaller home myself but had been procrastinating. You've inspired me :) And your "child" is awesome young boy. He looks happy, too :)
Would have been nice to own the land too.. (minus taxes of course) because if the land lord changes so could your rent... They could charge you $2000 per month for that land if they wanted to. You would have to some how pick up and move... Just a thought.
@Laughtime Parks must charge market value or they lose customers, so it is very unlikely that the rent would go up that drastically. We pay $125.00 a month, plus gas for a total of $145.00, the going rate here. It makes economic sense when you consider that land in our area is $25,000 an acre, and the county requires a minimum of three acres per dwelling, unless you rent a lot in a park like where we are. Our financial situation is still in recovery mode, so we will rent.
@Laughtime I imagine this would be a pretty easy home to move? Was it delivered and installed anyway? A lot of the land ownership thing would likely require settings like no roads, no utilities, out in a setting away from daily basic needs that one could bike or take a bus to in order to be affordable. I would choose under $150 a month to be near stuff so that I am not in the boonies or a slave to gasoline.
I found a travel trailer in a pasture for free. A little bit of work and it has made a good home. Roughly 140 square feet. I can't believe these people spent so much money.
The doors, front and back open outwards. Even with a bed in front of a door, you can open it and get out. Now, if they have double doors, with the inner door opening inwards, that's a problem. Looked to have plenty of windows to me. If you live in apartment block, you often don't have a second door - the windows have to be big enough to serve as emergency escapes.
Good job at showing us a different way of life. Its something we should all think about. Unique ways to use space. I like it.

@imstricken06 yes, but they live like kings WITHOUT mortgage and debt! They can save the money and upgrade their home for little money...again without mortgage! They live reality and not some imaginary high life that TV wants you to live.
Thats the problem of todays society, people that live above their abilities are stupid and THOSE feed banks and corporations!!!
alfazg 1 week ago

U R ego trippin'!

alfazg 1 week ago
@alfazg I'm constantly amazed at how materialistic and judgemental our society is.. I saw a very lucky, smart, loving family/buisness. As a single guy I would gladly trade what I have for a cheap place and a loving partner. If these people are so concerned maybe they should open their homes to homeless unwanted children. Yea I thought not.
jamescs1969 1 week ago
@jamescs1969 what kind of irony was that? I live in Croatia - Europe, thats small pretty young country, only 20 years past sience independence and from leaving communism and only thing i can say is that this twisted capitalism that we have today ( that was brought from western, more developed countries ) is nothing but slavery and that concept of working for banks is not fun at all. So you have to be very smart today not to become chain linked to banks and corporations!
alfazg 1 week ago
@alfazg Nice job with your english! I've given 60,000 USD to the same landlord. I'm trying very hard to educate myself on container, hay-bale, packed earth homes. I must wise up! It is fine to have a large home IF IT'S PAID FOR! This is my goal. A little sacrifice early can save your retirement. I wish to minimize stress for myself and loved ones. One-love from San Diego.
jamescs1969 1 week ago
@jamescs1969 hm, I understand what you are trying to say and I agree that if you can afford large home then go with it, but if you can't, then it's better to live like this then fall under pressure and live in big debt.
:) thx for the English, I'm an application developer so I use English on everyday basis.
alfazg 1 week ago
@imstricken06 yes, and live whole life in rental apartment and paying from month to month for something that will never be yours. this is their lil home and they can upgrade it to bigger home for very little money...without banks, without corporations, without imaginary happiness! Its not life you wake up every morning and first thought is will you be able to pay mortgage this month! and by the way they said that they will rise the roof so kid can masturbate normaly! : )

OhioCountryChannel 2 weeks ago
@OhioCountryChannel You could find a decent pickup truck AND a 5th wheel for about 10 grand. Buy a piece of "rough" land and park the thing. Living like this--even if it's only for say 5 yrs--- working full time as if still paying a mortgage BUT-- pocketing that money instead of funding yachts for banksters will make you wealthy in that time span-- not them. What a concept lol. 5 yrs passed and you can now buy a full size home with cash. Mortgage = slavery.

I agree that the child may have been lacking eloquence, but aren't most children at that age? A homeschooled young woman I know started a three-year college program at 15, finished it at 17 due to scholarship requirements, and is now writing a book at 18. If I owned the house, I'd want the opposite. 600 square feet to live in, 2200 feet of open, heated garage space. Yeah baby, man's dream home. Lots of space for toys and hobbies, and minimal space that needs a vacuum cleaner run over it.

@davehutchinson67 @davehutchinson67 No, $145 monthly. We are so caught up on the "Its made in china cheap walmart" forget to ask why do we need it
rmstudio 1 month ago
@rmstudio Heh, our entire wedding, including local food served by girl scouts that we donated to for their help, 120 attendees... was less than 6 grand. Our rings were under $700 each and there just what we wanted. The world needs to stop thinking we need to spend spend spend, own own own.
djkenny 1 month ago
@djkenny Amen! to all of what you did. Having the girls scouts help out is fantastic. You did the community a service in doing that as well. You taught girls to help out "Not just take from community" as well they learned how to serve food "Future Caterers Possibly :) " You saved that money to use on a good house instead of "John Tortua lame Wedding TV show" Which is utter BS! Its a show were the couples have "ADVERTISERS" pay to provide services N goods for the TV Show weddings to market goods
rmstudio 1 month ago
@rmstudio Agreed. We did not want to go in debt for our wedding. Our budget was 6 grand, no exceptions at all. That included my benetton suit on sale, my wife's dress (she even had a 2nd one to change into) The facility was lovely and $550 for 5 hrs. The DJ, free... I am a DJ and have friends that took care of that. Photos? A friend who is a photographer as a hobby. We had a bike wedding, traveling to and from with a Dutch Box Bike with my wife in front and groomsman on their own bikes.
djkenny 1 month ago
@djkenny Oh, and we DO own a sensible home in a walkable neighborhood...had we been in debt to our wedding, I think that would have been harder to do.
djkenny 1 month ago
@djkenny You sir are Green in a real sense not a tree hugger with utter over nonsense. You and the wife just used basic common sense. Funny as I am actually a photographer by trade full time for 18 years. Honestly I see about 90% of my wedding couples being divorced in 2 years and spending money on a wedding they have no business doing. Yet spend little focus on their marriage itself and their relationship. Can we say Kadashine girls on tv "Puuke" Thats stuff turns my stomach. Cheers to you.
rmstudio 1 month ago
@rmstudio Exactly! I Djed a few weddings. Some were 50k, they were no different than some 1500 dollar ones in folks back yards. We wanted to simply be "real", and "realistic". Best to you, rmstudio
djkenny 1 month ago
@djkenny I know its silly to have more that a 150 guests. Most couples with them big stupid expensive weddings never even remember most of it because there is to much going on. The small inexpensive weddings are so much more fun casual and intimate. The couple get to enjoy and interact with their guests. Stress free and debt free. The other big weddings are just marketing pushers for big vendors trying to convince people they "Need this" Greed comes to mind.
rmstudio 1 month ago
@rmstudio It is a mixed bag for me. I DJed weddings, many that were $1500 including me, my photographer friend, and catered food. To typical $12-19,000, to a $50,000 one. They really were no different. I have mixed feelings because I know folks who love being caterers, handling video and like yourself, photographers. They get paid well and should. But to assume everyone must take this route when they do not have a disposable income... that I think is silly. I was just laid off, would hate debt
djkenny 1 month ago
@djkenny Agreed. I am talking about those wedding with 250 plus people and the bride and groom never even remember who was there at the wedding. Then spending 1,500 on lighting for the reception utterly out of control even if you do have money to burn to me spending 1,500 to 2,000 on lighting for a reception or 10,000 on flowers is gluttony. Could think of 100 better uses for that money that is burned up in hours, Maybe teaching young kids education or building a shelter for a family etc..
rmstudio 1 month ago
@rmstudio LOL, yeah... lighting.. what the venue "had", and we used strands of after Xmas sale white Xmas lights, several we bought for $2 a pack (now used for the our home during the holidays). Flowers? We went to a You Pick It Farm 30 min away with family in town the day prior and created all our needs out of them. So many for $75. Trader Joe's provided the bouquet, just put a ribbon with pins on it. I need to do a film about saving $ on weddings
djkenny 1 month ago
@djkenny See how that all worked in your favor but more importantly the important "Values" & good times and memories created around a wedding like yours. Going on a trip 30 miles away with family to do something "Together" towards a couples union. Not just about "Look at me and what I spent and look what designer I used for this or that at my wedding bragging blog rights" "So I can make my self think I am making the girls in the cubical's next to me jealous" You gain far more in that flower trip

Would have been nice to own the land too.. (minus taxes of course) because if the land lord changes so could your rent... They could charge you $2000 per month for that land if they wanted to. You would have to some how pick up and move... Just a thought.
Laughtime 2 months ago 2
@Laughtime Parks must charge market value or they lose customers, so it is very unlikely that the rent would go up that drastically. We pay $125.00 a month, plus gas for a total of $145.00, the going rate here. It makes economic sense when you consider that land in our area is $25,000 an acre, and the county requires a minimum of three acres per dwelling, unless you rent a lot in a park like where we are. Our financial situation is still in recovery mode, so we will rent.
320squarefoothome 1 month ago
@320squarefoothome So I see.. that makes since. Thanks for info!
Laughtime 1 month ago
@Laughtime I imagine this would be a pretty easy home to move? Was it delivered and installed anyway? A lot of the land ownership thing would likely require settings like no roads, no utilities, out in a setting away from daily basic needs that one could bike or take a bus to in order to be affordable. I would choose under $150 a month to be near stuff so that I am not in the boonies or a slave to gasoline.
