  • @faisalhalim hey man i got my pk roll down! since last time my roll got near perfect! loving it!

  • @faisalhalim haha i've already seen the link u gave me, b4, i just dun get this part of the roll, do u go like sideways over ur shoulder?, or do u go a little over ur head and miss the tip of the shoulder? man thx for helping man, yea im young and practiced parkour roll for two weeks now, but cant get it right, u my friend is awesome, plz keep supporting? oh and video response me? like how to roll? oh i tend to learn easier with the armthread learning way. :D :/ plz help.

  • @faisalhalim hey plz help dude go check my channel i have so many questions and injuries plz help :?

  • @theveritas100 Hey, what makes you think I haven't checked your channel out? I like your sincere efforts. But you do realize I am not God, right? Haha! No matter how sincere my efforts there is always the chance that my teaching methods may not be as good for you as others' -- so you should look around at lots and lots of roll/roulade tutorials. Try to land on the area behind and under your armpits, rather than on your shoulders, and shoot me as many questions as you want. Cheers!

  • @faisalhalim hey how long did it take you to practice the roll?, i really need help plz, i keep hurting my shoulder or hip plz help :/

  • @theveritas100 With the right advice you should be able to get it right in a few hours. Without the right advice, years. I started getting it right after looking at parkourdirk's roulade tutorials, and following the discussions in the comments section. If I figure out a good way to teach it, myself, I will put up a tutorial, but for now think of the roll as the way a kid rolls down a hill, and forget about rolling across a diagonal across the back, which some tutorials tell you to do.

  • @faisalhalim hey still i cant plz help, i haev a video on my channel mybe u cud c wuts wrong plz. :/

  • @theveritas100 Haha! My dear over-enthusiastic friend, you are making some of the same mistakes that I used to make in my earlier days. It's good to see you are taking to this with as much fervor as I did. First off, get rid of that mattress (from your videos) for concrete is the best teacher. Second, try to roll on the ground, like a child, and then transition into getting out of a roll. Then, do the reverse, to transition into the roll. O, again, watch /watch?v=0Va-LeUaVxg

    Keep me updated.

  • please, i do not understand how to place my arm so it deosn't hurt my shoulder im really crying T^T i saw all kidn of tutorials i just don't get it right!

  • @pivotiano Dude, these rolls are heavily flawed. Personally, I learned off of the tutorial and the discussions at parkourdirk's roulade update video, and from advice from a parachutist. The trick, if I could simplify it, is to roll like a kid does when he/she rolls down a hill: you start on your back, right behind your arm pit, then roll to the opposite butt cheek. Don't worry about your arms, at first. Try kneeling on the ground with one knee up and roll onto the opposite side. Keep me posted.

  • this is pretty funny

  • your good on the rolls (really you rock ) keep it flowing

  • Thanks a lot for the comment. I hope you realize, though, that when I made this video, I had still not realized that the pk roll is really something of a log roll, rather than a cousin of the gymnastics roll (which some martial artists call a flip, rather than a roll). Even when I made this later video, watch?v=kMe7BOJSZ1M , which has better rolling technique, I had not realized that. I am yet to make a video of how I currently roll. I hope this helps you, if you are new to this training.

  • Hey, I know this is on gravel, and it's hard, but my advice is to keep it flowing and make sure to lean more into the roll after your jumps. It will help spread out the impact evenly if you are smooth, and leaning forward will help you cover even more distance to spread it through.

  • This one is old, man. If you mean leaning to the side, then just watch the videos posted after this one. Put up some of your own, let's see what you have been up to.

  • Yeah I realized that after I saw your video, and looked at others! Hahaha. I took a look at the others, and they got much better....

I do need to get some videos up, but right now I am really busy with school and have no time to film, edit, and post a video. I really want to though, and I will soon!

  • BTW, this fake gravel was just prickly pointy, but nowhere nearly as hard as the concrete floors I generally practice on.

  • hey faissal, i know u from the on-mirrors edge forum. i cant download the songs linked there...but can u do it for my or send em to me =) btw: nice vid, i am doin parkour too^^

  • Thanks for your comment. I'm sorry, but I have lost all the files I used to make this video (the computer was formatted). Just look up "Mirror's Edge music" on YouTube, and one of the videos might still have a link to that piece. More complete versions are on YouTube, already, though. BTW, what was your name on the Mirror's Edge forum (you could PM me this one)?

  • i'm not registered. i just were lookin for the songs :D and i read ur post^^

  • See description.

  • were you find thece music give me a linck or sonthing

  • stupid just some rolls and stupid rolls!

  • Wow!

I've heard of illiterate people (who would randomly click),

    but they wouldn't write back.

I've heard of busy people, who wouldn't read the description.

I'll even give you a stretch, that there may be viewers who click without reading the title.

But someone who does not even read all of these, and the in video lines, and yet complains?

Man, when it comes to sloth, you really are the cream of the crop.

Congratulations! You've taken stupidity to tremendous heights!

  • You also might wanna hit the gym and start training in back exercises(rows and fly's) along with pull ups dips and your basic bench press.

  • I mostly do push ups and squats; I'm not too keen about anything to do with weights, as I am trying to get lean, rather than build muscle. You know any bodyweight exercises for the biceps, though?

  • Um... bicep curls are about the only I can think of atm but the reason i say work on dips and ect it will help you with your cats and muscle ups for getting over walls. Do calf raises for pop vaults.

  • You know, I REALLY enjoyed doing dips, today. Thanks. I'll try the muscle ups, next. I only found a waist high railing, though; and it has another rod underneath, half-way to the floor. That lower rod is okay for doing dips (with my outstretched legs almost parallel to the floor), but I have to work out how to do muscle ups on it. I also use the upper rod (with my body rigid, and as parallel to the floor, as possible) to do fake pull ups -- exercises my biceps and fingers.

  • For more upper body strength try doing something like these watch?v=YvbLSgWMJec these will REALLY increase your strength and balance ability's

  • Thanks it might be a while before I get to see that video, though, since I don't get to watch videos from work; and I just moved.

  • Hey, thanks a lot for that planche workout video link. That should keep me busy, for a while.

  • Ok you are right when you start both hands should be on the ground b4 execution then it should roll onto ur forearm then onto your trapezius muscle next infraspinatus muscle and last latissimus dorsi (Basically all the "fatty" meat parts of the back is what you should try and roll onto avoiding any bones, they will bruise easily) but in a X motion right arm-lower left back... ect.

  • Well, this tutorial video:

    watch?v=0Va-LeUaVxg

    and this (analysis):

    watch?v=rekmYbFRbK0

seem to show that I should roll across my back, then use a twist in my torso to move the point of contact downward, towards my butt cheek.

Also, I thought that contacting the trapezius muscle to the ground is a bad thing, since it is so close to the spine. I got that from comments here:

    watch?v=T-62B4AbkeY

So, I'm not sure if I should contact the ground diagonally across my back. Any thoughts?

  • That video is a good 1 to learn from but if you look close you can still tell he bounces in the middle of his roll cause he is not curling enough the most part to focus on is roll into a ball (obviously) but for the basics thats a good 1 to follow. Its hard to explain... just keep practicing and try doing it on grass not gravel or streets until you can not feel any pain on the grass then move to a more complex spot.

  • you want to avoid hitting your spine at all cost but still rolling onto the fatty muscle parts though's are what will give you your "cooshin"

  • Thanks. I'm a little wary of using soft surfaces, though, since at my dojo I developed the practices of (1) rolling on the part of the trapezius muscle that is close to the neck, rather than close to the infraspinatus muscle, and (2) not curling enough. So, I felt shock to my spine, and pain at the back of my waist, on concrete. I've been rolling on concrete, everyday, for a few months, now, so I should be okay; and I do prefer concrete to that roof top collection of jagged edged stones.

  • I like it that you, too, see muscles as cushions, rather than as just implements for movement; reminds me of breakfalls. Speaking of martial arts, do you think this video

    watch?v=kT7OHNFCPM4

shows good rolling technique? I would actually like to see a tutorial that you thought was good. I'm especially intrigued by your mention on the trapezius muscle, and the thought that I may not have utilized it, properly.

  • Thats a good video to watch this video explains a bit more watch?v=5tJAyNxig_A BUT that MA video you posted is another good 1 to learn from. Only reason I mentioned the traps is because you want to utilize as much back muscle as possible without "hitting" your should blades spine ect.

  • your sort of landing on your back start with your forearm then shoulder then it should cross over your back but without rolling on your side.

  • Yes it does hurt my side (and back), now that I am trying to roll by scooping one arm under the other (threading the needle), rather than having both arms, palm down, on the ground.

But I thought I'm supposed to roll onto my shoulder blades, avoiding contacting my shoulder to the ground, at all costs (it hurts, when my shoulder hits the ground). So, do you mean that my shoulder blades should contact the ground, after my forearm (thus, not hitting my side), or have I understood you wrong? Thanks
