You can do both. Jades range in game, from about 25-30k for a regular Jade egg. You can also get a pet token from the cash shop, and use the token in the vending machine at the pet shop, but this will have a random outcome.
I just used every single mp used attack I could against him. I believe you also get to fight him with his sister. Just throw everything you've got at him.
