  • Listen and Listen good...as we will never hear a voice like this again.

  • Another great country artist who lived hard and played hard, and like Hank, died way too young.

  • hi dee dee,i hope you get this song that i love very much---heres looking at you sweety.

    randy!

  • great song!!

  • Had a wonderful dynamism - from a whisper to a powerful reach - he had what maybe Roger Miller captured too - but Lefty's voice was more controlled..from what I have heard. GREAT!!

  • THAT GOES TO SHOW THERE ARE AT LEAST 6 GOOFY TURDS IN 113,000 PEOPLE

  • I can not believe that six people have "disliked" this video. Few singers today can even come close to this fellow.

  • I'm in complete agreement with PaulinaRena...thx u 4 posting..phyllis..

  • A TRUE LEGEND!!!!

  • I LOV HIS VOICE!!!!

  • An earlier John Anderson recording of this is not bad at all.. kind of sounds like Lefty too

  • Never see another lefty or the old ones that had to be good.

  • Only 18 and loving this stuff respect im 33 and been into it for ten years or so Ray price, George jones, Waylon jennings, Moe bandy, Loretta lynn the list goes on!

  • Ya. Lefty was one of my favorite artists when I went from pop to country in the early 50s. I saw Lefty at Johnny Ryan's Hillbilly Park on South Broadway in St. Louis back around 55. I must add a few others from Lefty's era to the list of what was good country singers - Carl Smith, Faron Young, Web Pierce, Ray Price & Hank Snow,

  • May be only 18, but this is my kind of country! :)

  • paula if you are in the minority then I have to join lefty was one of the best I think I have all his songs,Rose

  • Pure country the wy it was meant to be

  • my favorite country singer of all time

  • He was Merle Haggards hero. Merle got up with them as a young man and played Leftys guitar he said.!

  • I like Lefty Frizzell, thanks for putting it on YouTube.

What happened to the option to play a list of songs?

  • You got some real country on your site. So I subscribed. Looks like you have the best of that good ole country.

    Bill

  • Is it possible to watch this with a wide grin on your face? I think not.

  • Gosh he's good!

  • @LGLG69

Big time. And notice how George Jones have modeled his singing style afer Lefty.

    Great.

  • this song makes me love country music not some of this new shit tho

  • There ain't anything quite like Lefty Frizzell. He's a true legend!

  • Doesn't get any better than Lefty Frizzell. He's a true legend!

  • Still miss him.

  • THIS is country music. I agree with what Harlan Howard said once. "Anybody in Nashville who doesn't know who Lefty Frizzell was, should be run out of town." God bless you for posting this video.

  • That was Billy Walker doing the intro at the beginning.

  • I've loved Lefty for years. His unique voice and style are what really great country music is all about. I am finding more wonderful songs by him here on YouTube - some I had never heard before . His love songs are pure magic for me. Whether listening to him on the radio or watching him in the videos he just sounds awesome. My favorites are "She Found the Key" and "Yesterday Just Passed My Way Again". I listen to those regularly. He never recorded a song I didn't like. Thanks. - Paula

  • He inspired my Brother to keep on doing music. My brother's songs are out there and some on a movie soundtrack,

  • I think Lefty sounds fantastic here! Just awesome!

  • I don't think he is underrated, he is regarded as one of the top ten country singers. Thats where he belongs. He must have been drunk on during this recoding?

  • highly under rated

  • I'm under the spell of Lefty Frizzell, he's got me singing this way..yay..yay..yay.

    Val

  • as I recall: Lefty served time in NM for statutory rape. He was young, but the girl was just a little bit younger. Her parents found out and pressed charges. Lefty wrote 'A thousand ways' while in jail to let his wife (and baby) know that he would prove he was there for them. REAL Country music is love, heartache, and loss. this song is proof that there's no better way to write about them than to live them. Happy Birthday, Lefty (3/31/28). There will never be another like you...

  • The incomparable Lefty. What a unique voice.

  • modern singers dont have distinctive voices they sing everything up tempo and usually the music drowns them out anyway we will nener see the like again unless they slow down a bit

  • this is one of my alltime fav how do they write stuff like this they will be playing this in 2110

  • Now this is Country, not the fake crap out there today!

  • @ElvisFreak77 i agree todays countrys a bunch of crap they dont give a shit about the music they just want the money

  • We miss you, Lefty

  • sleepytime, George Jones comes close too.

  • He had the most awesome voice. Only Merle Haggard comes close to him. He has 2 other brothers, one of which is a Christian. Go and check out (THE OTHER BROTHER) on Myspace.

  • loved him

  • I may be in the minority but, to me, Lefty sounds fantastic here with both of these songs. He's putting a lot of heart and soul into them, just as he said he loves to do. Where would we be without this wonderfully talented artist who set the pattern for many others to follow? Lefty's voice has always been so mellow and so pleasant. I love him. Thank you for posting - Paula

  • @PaulinaRena -your right about his style setting a pattern. George Jones credits his vocal style to Lefty. Lefty was the first to bend and twist notes in this fashion. Hank Williams did it some, but not like this. Lefty is a true legend. I wish they would call the stuff radio plays today something else, because it surely isn't Country Music.

  • @PaulinaRena The minority, un uhhhh '"hail to the real king"

  • He actually wrote this song to his wife while in a jail in Roswell NM. He was great.

  • Lesser77,

Why was he in the Roswell NM jail?

  • I'm not lesser77, but I do know Lefty was arrested for statutory rape at one point.

  • Thank you for taking the time to answer the question.I find all of the history of our favs interesting.

  • Lefty served time for Tax Evasion.

  • Give a million monkey`s a million typwriter`s and give them a million years and they still couldn`t write a song as good as Lefty

  • WORDS CANT DESCRIBE HOW GREAT HE WAS

  • Now that's old school true country music-cuts right through to your heart. No frills bells or whistles, guitar, steel guitar , fiddle and a pure voice.

  • you all have just been school'd on how to do a real country song...obey!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Haha Preach on!

  • The great country music stuff is on SiriusXM satellite radio on CH 62 The roadhouse and CH 64 willie s place.

    ITS AWESOME!!

  • It would be so nice to hear some of this real country music again on the radio, a real differential from anything rock and roll. Seems there is so much gray area anymore in country music, it is tiresome.

  • very nice. thanks for posting

  • ik vind het ok

  • Now that was a golden oldie, I liked his music. Hard to sing like he did.

  • The greatest two-chord country song of all time. Can you see how Lefty is already fading at this point, not only in his voice, but in the overall sadness of his delivery. It's the tragic essence of country music. There's absolutely no one like him since. He's the end of an era. A genius, no less than Einstein was in mathematics. His impact is immeasurable.

  • Great song..thanks for the video, but isn't this " I Love You A Thousand Ways" ?

  • Although he does them both in the same style, he's singing two songs here: first, "I Love You A Thousand Ways" and then "I Want to Be with You Always."

  • Thanks..I guess I should have waited for the end of the vid Hehehe

  • so great Lefty'

  • this is awsome

  • ok Thx a lot Rmm for correcting me loool!

    you had reason

  • this is not the good title

the title is;; i love u a thousand ways

  • You're right about the first song, but the second is called "I want to be with you always." It's just that he sings two songs in this clip. Both great.

  • GREAT!!!!

  • LEFTY'S CERTAINLY ONE OF THE BEST!!

  • owesome one o a kind in his style and way of singing

  • He influenced many great musicians, I remember listening to his wonderful songs growing up because my Dad is a big fan of the old Country and Lefty was a favorite, they broke the mold with musicians like Lefty, he was awesome.

  • Its the first time I ever saw this man Heard him while growing up on the radio from WWVA jamboree from Wheeling West Virginia. Thanks for this video

  • Sure glad that you glad that you like this music.

I have been in Wheeling, over 30 years ago, and I loved it. Being from Alaska and, to be able to see that part of the country. Met some wonderful loving people from there.

I truly enjoy these "Oldie but Goodies" type of music.

    Take care.

  • I also saw Lefty, backed up by a local band in a small club in 1965 . Very cordial and generous with his time - completely immersed in his songs and his vodka but still put his songs across with all that feeling and on pitch. I'll never forget that performance.

  • I met Lefty in a Lafayette, LA dance hall in 1969. He was traveling alone and using house bands. We both arrived an hour before anyone showed up and I had a half hour to talk to him. Wonderful memory.

  • That really is quite a memory. Lefty had one of the sweetest voices in country or any other genre come to that.

  • Brings back memories to my late dad who plays his records in the early sixties...

  • Sadly Lefty went out of this world a forgotten man, His life from what I hear, was not to happy the last few years. It's such a shame, He was such a great talent.

  • Hi,

I don't think that Lefty, will ever be forgotten as long as there are people such as myself and others that help keep his memory alive, and his talent still lives on. And, as far as his being unhappy in his last years,I don't think so. He loved to entertain us through his music. At least that is the way I will always remember him. And, I know that he is probably singing in hillbilly heaven.

    Inkycap3

  • Thanks for bringing this one back. I remember when I first heard him for the first I was a teenager babysitting. And, I put the 45 on the record player and just fell in love with his twangy voice. I haven't heard this song for well over 20 years.

    Keep up the good work.

    Inkycap3

  • yes that is so true.what a shame

  • Thanks,

I am glad that we have this site to be able to listen to and enjoy the vintage part of this music.

  • Good Loard!what a voice.someone who could sing like that today would make millions.

  • unfortunately someone who could sing like that today wouldn't get a chance to show it. That's the sad state of Country Music now.

  • Great! Makes me remenicing to my childhood when my dad turns the long play records, somewhere in the early sixties.

  • JUST HOW COOL IS>> LEFTY???

  • He was the coolest for his time. I just loved his twangy voice. Always gives me a chill.

    Inkycap3

  • Lefty will all be remembered for singing ,The Mom and Dad Waltz. A true legend.

  • Oh that brings back the memories, of dancing the night away.

  • This video is a medley of two of Lefty's greatest songs."I love you a thousand Ways"

and "I Want to Be With You Always"

  • Thanks for pointing that out. I love the second song!!

  • One of my favorites. It is such a beautiful love song.

I hope that there are still men that are romantic this way.

    Inkycap3

  • where are singers like this now?

  • Good 'ol Texas Country!! Love Him!!

  • beautiful,post some more!

  • great singer could listen to lefty all night

  • More Lefty Please

  • has anyone heard the studio version where Lefty sniffles just before he starts singing? I think it's the original recording. It's the best version and that sniffle exemplifies what so many artists aren't anymore: HUMAN.

  • no but I would love to!! He was wonderful, and oh my does he strike a nerve!!

  • Pure country. Wod, this is so good!

  • This was my late fathers favourite song of all time........I can see why......Lefty is breathtaking......I can't get enough of this video.......Thanks You so so much!

  • This is all the proof you need to show how much of a joke todays country artists are. Chesney or Lefty? It's almost laughable!!!

  • Merle Haggard has often said that his vocal style was inspired by Lefty. Keith Whitley overtly copied him and was proud of it. Lefty himself adored and was powerfully influenced by jimmy Rogers.

  • Yes, is a medley of I Love You A Thousand Way and I want To Be With You Always.

  • Fabulous. You can hear both Merle & George in him.

  • Or maybe you hear him in both George and Merle?

  • Yes, George and Merle both have mentioned many times of his influence on them. Willie Nelson did a whole LP around Lefty's tunes.. To Lefty From Willie. Great Great stuff..! Thanks for posting.

  • HAHA. You mean you can hear Lefty in both George and Merle.

  • "I Love You a Thousand Ways" was one of his best. I put many a nickle, yes nickle in the jukebox back in the early 1950's to hear this one.

  • Me too,

  • actually it's i love you a thousand ways than goes into i want to be with you always

  • Love the video, but it's "I Love You a 1000 Ways"

  • The name of the song is "I Want To Be With You Always"

    right on the old records.

  • i miss good country! new country sucks! thanks for posting this!

  • I agree,

  • Vintage Deluxe, can you find Humbuggin Me from TownHall

    Party?? Thanks

  • saginaw michigan please somebody!

  • Amazing!!! Thank's a lot. Lefty Is The Real Country Music.

  • Fer sure today's country singers are not in the same league as Lefty and George

  • From George Jones, onward, there isnt a Country singer alive that dosent owe a debt to Lefty,The word legend is much overused these days, but Lefty was and is a real giant of the genre

  • This is truuuue country music--more Lefty please.

  • There is only one Lefty Frizzell! Best voice in country music! Thanks for sharing!

  • OMG Lefty on the Mike Douglas show----fantastic!!

  • Just the best, that's all...thanks!

  • it's no Mott The Hoople, but damn nice!
