That was a Hopkins "Woodie" model. It has no metal tone ring, only its wooden rim. This one is long sold, but you can see them at the dphopkins website.
Wow Zepp that sounds just amazing for a banjo without a tone ring! I mean really good!!! I think most people overestimate the importance of a tine ring.
I have the DP Hopkins Renaissance,,,I absolutely LOVE it! This one sounds nice too....
