@oStealthKiller Same as regular bench press with a little added tricep involvement. It also takes stress off the shoulders.I have rotator cuff pain and stiffness and the reverse grip is much easier on my shoulders.
@HHH396 RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! YOU REPLIED BACK TO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOUR WORTHLESS TURD F*CKER!!!! NOW THE TROLL GODS WILL SMITE THE WITH THEIR SMITIEST SMITE! YOU ARE NOT MY REAL FRIEND OR OTHERWISE YOU WOULD HAVE REPLIED SOONER! GOD! WHAT DID I EVER NOT DO TO DESERVE THIS? YOUR FACE IS LESS LEAN THAN MINE SO ALL OF MY LIFTS ARE MORE IMPRESSIVE! ALSO YOU ARE SHORTER THAN ME AT THE SAME WEIGHT SO REALLY I'M WAY STRONGER THAN YOU ARE! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Haha, oh dear... I though this was a new video for a moment. It is the new youtube layout... Vidoes that people like come up as well... PReviously I could get a list of only new videos..
@krazziejrboi Yes they are. They're solid, well made. The only thing is there is a space of a couple inches between the spot racks and the bench....so you have to be careful not to drop in that space. As long as you're aware of that you'll be good.
Ah I see what you mean...you also are a fan of reverse grip! I've read it hits the upper and outer pecs even more than incline bench. And from what I feel when I do them I have to agree. 405, is really, really, heavy.. I hope to do that one day, I think my 1RM would be about 305 right now, since I did 295 X 2. It took me 5 years to go from a 205 bench to a 305 bench, so if I could get to 405 in another 5 years that would be great. I would be 28 by then, do you think that's a realistic goal?
@oratorman Yeah that seems like a reasonable goal.Just make sure you do lots of heavy tricep work to help increase your tricep strength. Most of the strength of reverse grip bench comes from the triceps.Remember too that it is significantly more difficult going from 300 to 400 than it is from 200 to 300.But regardless if u train hard it can be done.
Nice lifts man!...What is the benefit of reverse grip vs. flat bench? Also, how come you dont go up to lockout with the 225 reps. Is it tough on the elbows? never tried it.
@goodlookinfool Thanks bro! The reverse grip seems to work your triceps like a close grip bench.I just ues it as a change of pace, just hitting the muscles from a different angle. As for the non lockouts,it just to keep the bar moving fast and to stay in a rhythm.I very rarely lockout weights under 315 lbs. or anything I rep for high reps.
@HHH396 what's your best bench now?? any thoughts of ever doing a comp? I have a full meet coming up at the end of October and am going to use the reverse grip. i'm not as strong with it but it should be fun.
@rawelite My best bench is still 435.I'm hoping to 440 soon! I don't really have much interest in competing,I just do it for the fun of it.I not ruling it out, maybe at some point.
The funny thing about the reverse grip is I notice my lockout is stronger, although I'm weaker off the chest with it.
@pumping18 Incline is harder. My incline is around 360-365 lbs.Although that's just me,some people might be way stronger with the incline than the reverse grip. Most people find the reverse grip very awkward.
Nice work man, nice and smooth, I think your good for 415+, what the heck man you can do more reps with 225 reverse grip then your normal grip, how funny would that be if you end up benching more with a reverse grip someday then your normal grip, what a turn of events haha.
@WeightLifterNerd Thank you Jared! Yeah I know it's funny,I think I will go on to surpass all my PR's with my regular grip.My lockout strength with the reverse grip is significantly stronger,it's weird. The only reason i tried the reverse grip is because i was in a slump with my normal grip and i wanted to try something new.I'll probaly try another max next week, something like 425-430,then i'll gp back to my regular grip.
Yeah you looked slow off the bottom, but right after the mid point you blasted it, I think usually the wider your grip goes the harder it gets at the bottom, and easier it gets at lockout, where as your other grips were closer and seemed strong off the bottom but struggled at the lockout.
@WeightLifterNerd Yeah I agree.I can go really wide with the reverse grip but i can't go wide with my regular grip because it hurts my shoulders....but it's no problem with the reverse grip....it's very odd.
You should try them,if nothing else it's great tricep builder.Make sure u do them in a power rack though!
Last time I did reverse grip I remember gripping it wide just sort felt or natural and comfortable, and last time i did reverse grip was years ago probably back in 2003, and back then my normal grip was a lot narrower probably close to rctriplefresh's grip. I been tempted to try them sooner or later, and if i do them i probably will def do them in a powerrack with the safeties just a lil lower then my chest.
@BIGDADDYJOHNSON27 Thanks Lee! Yeah they're going good right now.I do think it is quite possible that my reverse grip will overtake my normal grip in rep weight and max!
wow mark! 415 next time you max with that.. 225X33!? i dont even remember even seeing you do that with regular grip! prolly 35+ reps with regular grip.. maybe even 40 haha
u officially reverse grip bench what i bench normally... hit 410 the other day in LA fitness at body weight 216. now i weigh 204 after 2 weeks of running and 3 a days football stuff. bullshit. lol
@fivefingerbp98 Yeah I probably have 425 or more with the reverse grip. That was a pretty easy rep for me.I'm just take it slow trying to get use to the grip
@rctriplefresh5 I'll def send u a set of wraps. They def help with pain and give your wrist support and also help with past wrist strains, which I have had.
if iever bench 300 ill see lol...which i am feeling doubtful of since my bench went down to 255x2...in like a week...wtf.....whish is horrible for me...
if u gave me wrist wraps u better wash them.....lol
when do u think ull have those vids up..i wanna see them bad..try soon so i can have something to watch while im shitting on the toilet tomorrow.alrthough if it takes time to transfer ill understand if u font wanna do it till u have more time
@rctriplefresh5 Don't feel bad about your strength going down. It's normal,a few weeks ago, when i was going through a weak spell,i bet I couldn't have gotten 365 x 1 on reverse grip! After you max on a lift there is always a let down period where u get weaker for a bit.Just start back with higher reps and work your way back up like u did before.
And dude if you get 300 lbs i will buy u new wraps!
It may be a few days before i get the old vids up.I have to search through my old tapes
@rctriplefresh5 With 1 rm or 225? With 225 it was 32 reps. And back about 5-6 yrs ago I did 335 x 1 on the reverse grip.I never liked the reverse grip until now.Yrs ago I thought it was very awkward and extremely dangerous.Bobby use to do these yrs ago and he did 235.I actaully have an old video from 1996 with him doing 225 for an easy single, with me spotting and I weighed about 190 lbs.I didn't have hardly any fat on me then haha
im begging please upload that video....and do u have any other old ones? dude upload them all please..i wanna see those man....like really badly..no homo.....please
btw i thought bobby wasnt that strng???? what was his best bench? he used to bench narrow right? with a huge arch? upload the vid now...i wanna see how hot u guys were as youg hot studs! hot hunks of meat seriously dude upload that vid for me...and do u have ny more old ones?
instead of sending me the trap bar send me wrist wraps
@rctriplefresh5 Bobby back in the day benched 272-275,I can't remember the exact weight but it was over 272 lbs.He took a bunch of years away from the weight and came back in 96' and reverse gripped 235 lbs. When he did 272+ It was with a very narrow grip(probably like 10 inches lol
I have a few old videos from between 96'-2004'.I hardly ever video taped my lifting back then. Those vids are on vhs,I'll have to find them and then transfer them to dvd.I will upload them at some point soon.
@rctriplefresh5 Yeah actually the trap bar would cost me a fortune to send anyway lol So u mean when u bench 300 u want the wrist wraps? That's a deal bro!
@ffanatic87 Thanks brother! The wrist wraps are APT,their the ones with blue pin stripe on them.I like them because they're very firm and support your wrist. They're the best I've ever used! You can get them at prowriststraps.
@jlinteris Thanks Jordan! I think my reverse grip is going to surpass my normal grip! I didn't want to get greedy and kill myself, otherwise I would've tried 425 lol
How's things going with you? I miss the hell out of your vids. You have to post something for us fans bro!
one of the ehaviest reverse ebnches ever attempted!!!!!!!!!! i msure there are many lifters strong enough to do this, but not many are brave enough!!!....but its not cause youre tough that u did this its cause u got the worlds strongest spotter lmfao! its cause of bobby
@rctriplefresh5 Brave enough is the thing!! At these weights, this shit is scary.I know i can do more but I have to build up my confidence and my technique also.I'm still very new to these...only a few weeks in.I'm surprised as hell I'm even up to this weight.
I've always said I would take Bobby as my spotter over anyone, even guys that are way stronger. That liftoff was like silk,Everything went perfect!
Thanks my friend!...Oh yeah, when are going for your scope?
@HHH396 when i say many lifters are strong enough to do this...i mean at the pro level of course....
anyway yeah i know what you mean...ur using a suicide grip with these so its much harder to hold it! it slips right our ur hands!!!! make sure u use chalk!!! maybe have bobby guide the bar without touching just for this excerscise. randy uses suicide for normal bench i wonder how it feels for him.
@rctriplefresh5 Yeah the grip is pretty much the reason why most people can't do these. Most people feel like the bar is going to jump right out of their hands.I can tell you one thing my lockout strength is much stronger with the reverse grip.I feel like once I get it half way I can lockout anything!I do use chalk.also.
Whohoo! That totally looked easy...nicely done Mark. Very strong. Can't wait to see more....that just seems so awkward to press that way. Congrat's on nailing 4 plates brother...
@BRETZERR Thanks a lot Randy! I'm just being cautious.I def had another 20 lbs in me but I want to get use to the heavier weights gradually.I think with time I will surpass my regular grip.
That old dude will not save you when you go to Death Valley.

You have to post something for us fans bro!

one of the ehaviest reverse ebnches ever attempted!!!!!!!!!! i msure there are many lifters strong enough to do this, but not many are brave enough!!!....but its not cause youre tough that u did this its cause u got the worlds strongest spotter lmfao! its cause of bobby
hahah ncie work
rctriplefresh5 1 year ago
@rctriplefresh5 Brave enough is the thing!! At these weights, this shit is scary.I know i can do more but I have to build up my confidence and my technique also.I'm still very new to these...only a few weeks in.I'm surprised as hell I'm even up to this weight.
I've always said I would take Bobby as my spotter over anyone, even guys that are way stronger. That liftoff was like silk,Everything went perfect!
Thanks my friend!...Oh yeah, when are going for your scope?
HHH396 1 year ago
@HHH396 when i say many lifters are strong enough to do this...i mean at the pro level of course....
anyway yeah i know what you mean...ur using a suicide grip with these so its much harder to hold it! it slips right our ur hands!!!! make sure u use chalk!!! maybe have bobby guide the bar without touching just for this excerscise. randy uses suicide for normal bench i wonder how it feels for him.
scope is the 13th fml
rctriplefresh5 1 year ago
@rctriplefresh5 Yeah the grip is pretty much the reason why most people can't do these. Most people feel like the bar is going to jump right out of their hands.I can tell you one thing my lockout strength is much stronger with the reverse grip.I feel like once I get it half way I can lockout anything!I do use chalk.also.

Whohoo! That totally looked easy...nicely done Mark. Very strong. Can't wait to see more....that just seems so awkward to press that way. Congrat's on nailing 4 plates brother...
BRETZERR 1 year ago
@BRETZERR Thanks a lot Randy! I'm just being cautious.I def had another 20 lbs in me but I want to get use to the heavier weights gradually.I think with time I will surpass my regular grip.
Thanks again bro!!
