The first Jamaican recording was Dawn Penn's in 1967. Not one single authoritative listing of Jamaican recordings supports your claim that Marcia Griffiths cut it before then. Unless you can provide recording/label details I'd suggest the books are correct.

But when they release the song, there's no mention of the original artist that produced the song, so all the young kids these days won't have a clue that this is actually a song by Dawn Penn.
