Richard Sorge born in Baku, Azerbaijan was sent to Japan as a Soviet spy working at the Nazi Germany Embassy in Tokyo.
Sorge was hanged to death on Nov. 7, 1944. A minute before he was executed, he said "The Soviet Red Army & Communism will last forever.
I feel sorry for Sorge because the Soviet Union collapsed on December 8, 1991, exactly 50 years after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 8, 1941 (JST).
@TedYokohama Thank God for Richard Deacon's 'Spy!'. There were some discussions that the USSR, had smuggled Sorge out of Japan, and into China or parts of Japan in return for Captured Japanese agents of the Kwan-tung army. A friend of Sorge, Hans-Otto Meissner, said 'I think it's possible that Sorge lives today directing or playing a part in Soviet Espionage'. A thing I love about Sorge, was that he was a smart, calm and an excellent spy who even out witted the Gestapo and Japanese secret army
Terrible movie, Lain Glen did a lousy job beside being arrogant.
Mr Masahiro Shinoda, who wanted to talk in English, was told by actor Glen how to make the movie and who should get face-time and who not, causing the Japanese actors-actresses for constant complaining during the shooting, which were ignored by Shinoda.
I'd like to get the movie too. There was another film, 'Who are you, Doctor Sorge', French or German The book 'Stalin's Spy' by Robert Whymant is very interesting. He changed history.
