crossing guards dont have the authority to fend off agression and harassment towards construction workers, nor can they direct traffic, its a reasonable move to have toronto police there, just to baby feed u some reason.

2. School crossing guards do not have the authority in law to direct or block traffic. Only police officers can.

3. Two officers are required there - 1 for traffic, 1 for pedestrians - all in the name of safety and to err on the side of caution.

I'll reiterate - those are pay duty officers. They are paid by the company. To acquire a permit for blocking an entire street for construction, the City REQUIRES them to hire pay duties. Why? Because there are citizens (and irresponsible drivers such as yourself filming while driving) who will in fact pass through those cones so as to not inconvience themselves by going an alternate route, AND will sue the City and the company if anything should happen to them or their car.
