Maggie as Rachel Dawes? BAD DECISION PERIOD.
Here's why: She has a very high pitched almost chipmunky voice that doesn't suit Rachel Dawes AT ALL.
Secondly, Rachel is supposed to be a very strong willed self-sufficient powerful individual who is not afraid of taking risks. Do we really want to associate that with someone that likes to be spanked and get pleasure from being dominated and like burning themselves?
Believe me or not, as soon as people see maggie they're gonna think of Secretary.
The character Rachel Dawes first appeared in Batman Begins. The only rachel Dawes we've ever seen is the one played by Katie Holmes, and the majority of people who I've discussed this with think she was a terrible character to begin with, so a change is probably not going to be such a bad idea.
Those of us who aren't hung up on Secretary will probably see Elizabeth Darko or Debbie from 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind' if anything, but I think she's too good an actress to let that happen.
I think people will be less short sighted than you and realise that to act is to do different things. People probably thought the same thing when they heard that the "gay cowboy" was cast as the Joker, and look at what a great decision that turned out to be. Katie Holmes doesn't act. She recites.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is a fantastic actress and each performance I've seen from her gets better and better one after another! Contrary to what many people have suggested, she IS a very attractive young woman though not as good looking as Katie Holmes she's still beautiful especially when her hair is down rather than tied in a bow and Im sure her performance in TDK will be superior to that of Holmes' underrated but panned acting in Begins.
I was so happy to hear that Maggie Gylenhaal was going to replace Holmes. Everything, in the first film, had an edgy and dark side to it except Kaite Holmes. She came off like this chearleader do-gooder type who didn't seem to fit. She's a much better actress and should give that role the personality it needs.
As far as her acting you people need to tone it down. Is it the movie? No. It's just a fake 60 second campaign that probably took twice as long as the speech to completely plan out and put together. I hate to say this guys, and I know this will get negative reactions, but that was some horrible acting. I love Batman Begins and TDK just as much as anyone, but this is bad...hope she does better in the film.
If you seen other movies she's been in shes a really good actress. This was filmed the way it was suppose to be. cheesy. real. it's very politician. Nolan wouldnt cast someone who cant act. She'll do fine.

Ya, X-Men did the same thing when the first movie was being released. There were a bunch of "Mutant Debate from Capital Hill" segments, which ended, revealing that Senator Kelly's daughter was a Mutant.
Anyone who has seen the movie knows that had nothing to do with the film, as far as we know Kelly wasnt even married. All it was, was a promo bit, just like theses.

Well, don't know if you have already found out for yourself, but there is a huge marketing campaign for the Dark Knight. It includes several websites that work as a network and source of information to what's going on in Gotham City right now (yeah, like it's real). This video shows Rachel's support to her boss, Harvey Dent, whos is running for Gotham DA.
This is awesome!! This viral campaign is one of the most exciting things these days. And it's incredible how Maggie has captured much of Katie Holmes' performance as Rachel (that "rather than discredit him" is soooooo Katie Holmes). A great work!
Batman Begins was awesome. Glad to see the weak link from it (katie Holmes) has been replaced by a better actress, Maggie Gyllenhaal. Can't wait for this film.

she has way more talent then that bitch katie holmes. maggie g is the best part for rachel dawes. at frist when i herd she was going to play her i was skeptical but then when i saw her she nailed it. shes a differnt kind of pretty and she had a strong essence and more headstrongnessthen that poor untalented katie holmes did not have. i would have loved to see her in the 3rd one because she is not really dead. i dont think.she kicked ass in this movie

I personally love Maggie Gyllenhaal and the fact that she is playing RAchel makes me kinda want to see this movie, although I think it is overhyped and amplified due to Heath Ledger's death. I never saw Begins, but I don't have anything against Katie Holmes either. They are both good performers in their own sense. BTW Maggie is a fine piece of woman that any real man that I know would be happy to have on their arm. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a Shallow loser who needs to grow a pair.

Maggie as Rachel Dawes? BAD DECISION PERIOD.
Here's why: She has a very high pitched almost chipmunky voice that doesn't suit Rachel Dawes AT ALL.
Secondly, Rachel is supposed to be a very strong willed self-sufficient powerful individual who is not afraid of taking risks. Do we really want to associate that with someone that likes to be spanked and get pleasure from being dominated and like burning themselves?
Believe me or not, as soon as people see maggie they're gonna think of Secretary.

The character Rachel Dawes first appeared in Batman Begins. The only rachel Dawes we've ever seen is the one played by Katie Holmes, and the majority of people who I've discussed this with think she was a terrible character to begin with, so a change is probably not going to be such a bad idea.
Those of us who aren't hung up on Secretary will probably see Elizabeth Darko or Debbie from 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind' if anything, but I think she's too good an actress to let that happen.

I think people will be less short sighted than you and realise that to act is to do different things. People probably thought the same thing when they heard that the "gay cowboy" was cast as the Joker, and look at what a great decision that turned out to be. Katie Holmes doesn't act. She recites.
I think Maggie will be great. If anything, I'm wondering why they didn't cast her in the first place!

Maggie Gyllenhaal is a fantastic actress and each performance I've seen from her gets better and better one after another! Contrary to what many people have suggested, she IS a very attractive young woman though not as good looking as Katie Holmes she's still beautiful especially when her hair is down rather than tied in a bow and Im sure her performance in TDK will be superior to that of Holmes' underrated but panned acting in Begins.

I was so happy to hear that Maggie Gylenhaal was going to replace Holmes. Everything, in the first film, had an edgy and dark side to it except Kaite Holmes. She came off like this chearleader do-gooder type who didn't seem to fit. She's a much better actress and should give that role the personality it needs.

As far as her acting you people need to tone it down. Is it the movie? No. It's just a fake 60 second campaign that probably took twice as long as the speech to completely plan out and put together. Her looks? Who the hell cares really? It's not Rachel Dawes Begins, or The Dark Dawes, it's Maggie Gyllenhaal (who's a far far better actor than Holmes) playing a love interest. Now we're running her out of town and calling her a lame Rachel Dawes WITHOUT seeing the movie first? Amazing.

Don't forget guys, this isn't from the real movie. It's just for the marketing, and it's suppose to give off that cheezy cue-card politician feeling. So she did her job. Trust me, if the video has the widescreen black bars and didn't look like it was filmed on a hand held, her acting would seem much different. Sometimes it's just about the visuals. I mean, the same goes for Joker. If it was Joker in this vid giving a speech or warning, it would seem crappy, not because the vid is bad.

don't see the point of all this. i'm looking forward to seeing this movie as much as the next man, but this promo activity does nothin' for me. now i really wanna see this movie, i was sold on it as soon as i saw the first picture of Heath as the joker. the only way they can make me wanna see this film more (if that's possible), is to show us a glimpse of two face, or another trailer maybe, as long as they don't give too much away.

from what i've been reading no scenes are going to be cut. this includes the scene of the joker playing dead in a bodybag. Nolan has stayed true to his word, he's leaving everything as is, to cut out any of Heaths work in this film would be criminal.

i think it was pretty good. a little redundant as far as marketing goes, but i think they accomplished what they were going for. just think to yourself "this isn't a trailer. this isn't in the movie". it's supposed to look that way, like a live feed you would see on C-SPAN. and as far as acting goes, she acted like a real politician (and i used the word "real" loosely. when is a politician actually "real"?) and came across as fake and rehearsed. and besides, anythings better than Katie!

Ya, X-Men did the same thing when the first movie was being released. There were a bunch of "Mutant Debate from Capital Hill" segments, which ended, revealing that Senator Kelly's daughter was a Mutant.
Anyone who has seen the movie knows that had nothing to do with the film, as far as we know Kelly wasnt even married. All it was, was a promo bit, just like theses.

It includes several websites that work as a network and source of information to what's going on in Gotham City right now (yeah, like it's real). This video shows Rachel's support to her boss, Harvey Dent, whos is running for Gotham DA.
