i was 12yrs old when this song came out. I first heard the song when i was riding jeepney on my way to school at Paco Catholic School.. This song is belongs to all time classic and hall of famer..
I think the lyrics in Tagalog is more meaningful than any of the other versions for some reason... No offense. I just feel a lot of emotion when it's in Tagalog heheh
To: Brokenbebe, have you heard/seen the renditions by Felix in Malaysian and Tagalog, by Jiro Sugita in Japanese and Diem Lien in Vietnamese? I think they are equally emotional and performed well.
can you tell me what other versions/languages the 'happy birthday to you are'? as far as i know, 'happy birthday to you' is accepted by almost all countries in the world are still sung by those people in its popular version which is english. i've been in many countries all over the world and i haven't heard anyone in those countries singing happy birthday in their own language. every happy birthday song i heard are all in english language.
version in German or Duetsche is in titled "alle Kinder brauchen Freunde" meaning "all children needs friends "sang by Kelly family. The same melody but completely different lyrics and meaning.
I am so proud of this song as it established the Philippines as the greatest Asian singing nation. I was playing it (here on Youtube) and my wife, who is a Chinese, stopped to listen. She said she used to listen to this song in Chinese when she was young in Chung Shan, Guangdong, China. This song will never die.
search for: child, then you have a rough translation of what it is about. There is an exact translation on tube somewhere, message me if you would like the link ;)
Thanks a lot James/Jena. Maganda, malinaw, beautiful sound. Reminds me in July,1985 aboard PAL 747 jet bound for Manila from LAX. I miss Pinas - Booze & Jukebox, and our hospitality.
