I love how many posters keep talking about the SNES ver having better music. If this was a soundtrack that'd be important, turns out it's game and just about any version is better than the SNES version. It's an old game and you can get it for maybe 5 bucks online now and ANY PC can handle it. And more importantly it's the best version.
@Snotnarok The soundtrack is important, though. Bobby Prince made one of the most memorable game soundtracks of all time. Each track is based on a heavy metal song. I remember first noticing the distinct Pantera influence.
@IggyHazard Yes I get music is important in a game but when said game is a poor port that doesn't run as well as the other versions, it makes it a bad game with good music. I'm pretty sure there's a mod for PC doom to put the SNES music on it or just redone metal tunes. There's literally no reason to play SNES Doom.
@IggyHazard Fantastic game, I preferred Flashback: Quest For Identity mostly because it was a bit nicer to me haha. But both are fantastic, and should be better known.
@Snotnarok Flashback was my fave on Genesis. I'd played two versions of 'Out of This World' (Super NES first, then Genesis) and three versions of Flashback (Genesis first, then Sega CD, then Super NES). I found that I liked the Super NES version of 'Out of This World' and the Genesis version of Flashback. Never played the Amiga versions of either.
@DarkShadow5415 Actually, the Jaguar version was THE best version. The SNES and Game Boy versions were the worst. The 3DO and 32X versions are the same as the Jaguar version, only dumbed-down. In the case of the 32X, most of the game code is the same, but its missing a number of levels and there is a border around the screen.
@chupicidio No; the SNES version is blurry, unresponsive, moves in slow motion, has muddy graphics and awful hit detection. The best is PC or Xbox Live Arcade, then Jaguar, then 3DO or 32X.
i do,nt see why many fans are sooo negative about this version, ,m mean COMMON,aside shitty music, it has all great correct funny sound effects,16 levels,(including all my favorite ones),smooth instance response controls wich is very inportant, has cheats, good graphics.
the snes version has bad response control, bad & limmited soundeffects, dark muddy graphics, you, can,t shoot 2 guy's atonce, has poor fysics, poor hit detecting,it,s hard in an unfair way to play it,only the music is great.

my friend had a box containing 2 sega genises, 1 32x, 2 sega cds, and a bunch of games and didnt know it and didnt care!!!!!!!! and now he tortures me with them
Doom 1 and 2 on PC are the best games ever. No battlefield, COD, Gears, Dead Space, bioshock, fear or any other game series/titles will ever be as good or worth while to play than Doom 1 and 2. Best 2 games ever.
@PianoXfan1 True stuff bro. You can literally play DOOM on single player FOREVER and not get bored. The best console version is the PS1 version, but yea PC is the ultimate version.
I had this as long as I can remember, had it on DOS, PS1, Xbox (inc. in Doom3) and then I downloaded it onto my 360. Doom all the way man love the crap out of this game
I still play the XBLA version sometimes and it rocks. After about half an hour i forget how dated the graphics are because the gameplay is just so damn good.
there was an unofficial remake version for the snes cuzz some one managed to screeze the 32x hardware alongside an sfx2 chip inside an cart module and a sound module,it was supposed to be hand made produced and to be sold on ebay but it,s cancled during rain drops by his house.
sad their video,s here are deleted but that version was perfect.!!!
@KolerikRocks Same! The PS1 port of Doom is one of the best In my opinion. With death match, co-op and a 50 + level single player, its my Favourite port by miles.
@ChappaGaming PSOne port is overrated. The music is irritating and certain areas are too dark that weren't that dark in the original PC version. No thanks.
I prefer the graphics of this port... problem is, horrible sound, 10 less levels. No wonder the BEST port was the one for Atari Jaguar. Not gonna mention the SNES, because the SuperFX chip sucked ass, and the framerate of that version was shit.
@HCkev It's not that the graphics were a little bit worse. You literally can't tell if you're hitting something or not, it's like an atari game. And the controls suck
I got a 32X with this and Virtua Racer for Christmas years and years ago. Loved it - only all the games were about £70 on launch so I didn't get any other games after that. Eventually traded those items with a MD copy of Rock 'n Roll racing with my friend for a Raleigh Activator 2. Ah...memories!
@44automag117 "The PlayStation, officially abbreviated as PS; unofficially referred to as the PSX or PS1)" straight from Wikipedia... and your being a hypocrite when you caps lock like that trolololol.
@fartknocker97 and just being generally bland. Even though the SNES version had technically inferior graphics, it managed to have more flare with textures that weren't so repetitive as well as more decorative crap around.
Just compare the room near the start with the armor, the SNES version has lamps and tech pillars, neither of which the 32x version has. Guess they just had to rush it so they stripped stuff out to make it technically work without having to touch the actual graphics engine.
@christian661199 It really was; you can see omissions, changes and technical weaknesses even in this video (such as alpha textures). However, for a console release in 94, this is by FAR the best non-PC release of the day.
Of course all the ports now (iPhone, Android) are from the PC version so are just as good as the original PC - but PC still holds the edge as it has upgraded Doom engines with better multiplayer and new graphic features. So PC STILL wins.
Doom on 32X was my very first experience with Doom and it will always have a nostalgic factor at least for that reason. That was before I got into PC gaming. The Super NES version had better music because the Super NES had a better sound card than the Genesis. Not sure if the 32X had its own sound card. If it did, you'd think the quality of the music in Doom would at least be on-par with Doom on Super NES. Sega CD, being a CD system, had excellent music capability (ex.: 'The Terminator').
I don't know too much about the 32X's audio either, but I've heard you could get music at least on par with the SNES. It just happened to be poorly documented and really difficult to take advantage of, so they just relied purely on the Genesis for audio. Worse, Doom was badly rushed to meet the 32X's launch.
I imagine that's the case. I think they reduced the screen size in the SNES one too, it's just not as apparent because there's no background graphic. The main thing is that SNES Doom isn't actually running on the Doom engine. It was a custom engine specifically designed for the SNES. It also came out almost a year after the 32X one, so they had more time to work on it.
Interesting music for Doom... I think E1M3 on this video didn't sound bad. It just sounded like nostalgic ambient classic eerie music that I came to know and love... Except not quite the same quality at all.
doom on the 32x is by the way the hardest of all released versions, because the enemies are always facing and then chasing you. due to memory problems, there are no back or side views of the enemies - just the dangerous frontal one :)
The thing that I always love in Doom, is that the glitch (maybe a glitch I don't know) where enemies will attack each other. It's easy work for me and it's funny
My laptop isn't really built for gaming, and I have hardly any space left (25GB). These days I can't launch Team Fortress 2 or Portal 2 without a blast of hot air coming out. Until I buy a Proper Gaming laptop, I'm pretty much stuck with Doom (and other Doom engine games). Thats not bad thing though, because its amazing.
@cuttock You don't need to use the DOS version. You can use a source port. Doom Legacy is my personal favorite(it has an option to use more advanced maps and has a splitscreen mode for 2 players). Risen3D is also a great port, as it uses fully 3D graphics.
Am I the only one here that notices the 32X uses the same z80 chip and the genesis? The music is horrible compared to the PC. Also the window is smaller. Anyone that played the PC version would pretty much hate all console versions, even the Jaguar version sucked bad.
okay i want the whole doom game including all 4 episodes plus tnt/evilution and plutonia and i want doom 2 with the master levels, and i want no missing levels, basically i want all possible doom 1 and 2 levels i can play, is there such a thing that exists that has all the levels?
Yep, there's a deal which includes every single doom (ultimate doom, doom 2, final doom, master levels, doom 3, doom 3 ressurection of evil) for a better price. You can always buy them standalone, for more.
Yep. Theres a pack with every single doom game ever (including master levels, final doom, ultimate doom, doom II, and Doom 3/Ressurection of evil. All for a reduced price.
@QUAKE495 are you serious? This port may be flawed, but at least it's playable. The SNES one runs at 10 fps,has laggy controls, and you can't see into the distance. The 32X version wins by default
@HerrGubba I preffer SNES doom, even with its large issues, i find the texture work of the SNES is truer to the original givign the environments a less bland feel, whereas the 32x, jaguar and GBA all kept things brown and grey. (Yuck!) The only things i dont like about the snes port are: No save features (passwords, battery save), Laggy frame-rate, and no Circle-straffing unless you learn to to it with a combo of tapping the D-pad and l or r button.
Don't you at least hate the MUSIC?!?! That is CRUD compared to the SNES version!!!
Tomar177 1 day ago
@Tomar177 the snes's music was the best. but everything else suffered in that game.
hey maybe they might re-make doom with updated visuals.

It also came out almost a year after the 32X one, so they had more time to work on it.

We need this on the Wii VC!!!

32X was awesome back in the day, I remember playing Doom and Star Wars and some mech game called MetalHead or something like that.
Then they never made any more games for 32X.
Then in 2002 Xbox 1 had Steel Battalion, another high priced cool toy that had 1 game for it. Crazy stuff

Interesting music for Doom... I think E1M3 on this video didn't sound bad. It just sounded like nostalgic ambient classic eerie music that I came to know and love... Except not quite the same quality at all.
TheBloodbanshee 6 months ago
doom on the 32x is by the way the hardest of all released versions, because the enemies are always facing and then chasing you. due to memory problems, there are no back or side views of the enemies - just the dangerous frontal one :)

I accidentally marked this video as inappropriate. So if this gets removed, can you please upload this video again? Thanks

The thing that I always love in Doom, is that the glitch (maybe a glitch I don't know) where enemies will attack each other. It's easy work for me and it's funny
Chaosscouter137 6 months ago
pity anyone who missed out on the pc version of this game
radelta 6 months ago
My laptop isn't really built for gaming, and I have hardly any space left (25GB). These days I can't launch Team Fortress 2 or Portal 2 without a blast of hot air coming out. Until I buy a Proper Gaming laptop, I'm pretty much stuck with Doom (and other Doom engine games). Thats not bad thing though, because its amazing.

@LibertyCityMayhem95 yup no xbox version, no iphone. THE FREAKIN PC
GamerNinjaX 5 months ago
@LibertyCityMayhem95 Or on Mac. Same game, WADS to try, etc.
But I think both versions are too old for OSX or Windows 7. So I use the DOS version of Doom on DOSBox.
cuttock 5 months ago
@cuttock DoomBuilder ftw
LibertyCityMayhem95 5 months ago
@cuttock You don't need to use the DOS version. You can use a source port. Doom Legacy is my personal favorite(it has an option to use more advanced maps and has a splitscreen mode for 2 players). Risen3D is also a great port, as it uses fully 3D graphics.

This was good for it's time and fun, too bad it had huge borders.
I nearly bought a Jaguar for Full screen Doom
BTW 3DO Doom was really bad!!!
ProtectAus 6 months ago
Am I the only one here that notices the 32X uses the same z80 chip and the genesis? The music is horrible compared to the PC. Also the window is smaller. Anyone that played the PC version would pretty much hate all console versions, even the Jaguar version sucked bad.

@GPVlog Yap, Doom was baddass on PC, it was my first PC game, and I started with a great game
But Mark is a fanboy, we can't do nothing about that xD

jubjub444 6 months ago
@jubjub444
Yep, there's a deal which includes every single doom (ultimate doom, doom 2, final doom, master levels, doom 3, doom 3 ressurection of evil) for a better price. You can always buy them standalone, for more.
TrueGamerNET 6 months ago
@jubjub444
Yep. Theres a pack with every single doom game ever (including master levels, final doom, ultimate doom, doom II, and Doom 3/Ressurection of evil. All for a reduced price.

The SNES version wasn't THAT bad.
QUAKE495 6 months ago
@QUAKE495 are you serious? This port may be flawed, but at least it's playable. The SNES one runs at 10 fps,has laggy controls, and you can't see into the distance. The 32X version wins by default
therangersrule68 6 months ago
@therangersrule68 I've played it before, and it ran fine.
QUAKE495 6 months ago
@QUAKE495 On real hardware or emulation? Because all super fx games run much faster in emulation.
therangersrule68 6 months ago
@therangersrule68 Emulation, but I've also seen gameplay of real hardware, and, ur right, but it's still just as fun as the other versions.

the jaguar port was the best console port
HerrGubba 7 months ago
@HerrGubba I preffer SNES doom, even with its large issues, i find the texture work of the SNES is truer to the original givign the environments a less bland feel, whereas the 32x, jaguar and GBA all kept things brown and grey. (Yuck!) The only things i dont like about the snes port are: No save features (passwords, battery save), Laggy frame-rate, and no Circle-straffing unless you learn to to it with a combo of tapping the D-pad and l or r button.
ThatGeekyGuyFilms 5 months ago
If you want a good console port of doom, I would get the Sega Saturn IMPORT. Remember how I said import and not the laggy US version.

Why is it that I think the narrator would be epic as Duke Nukem's voice actor?
