I'm with everyone about the Fox Crew. The chemistry is unmatched. I was so depressed when NBC got the second half of races that year. I felt like those guys had ziltch chemistry. I was let down majorly by the ESPN crew. I expected SO much better from them. I love this group of pit reporters best too. And how 'bout Bill Elliott getting still getting poles in 2001?
It's more likely that Fox would even attpemt to acquire Sunday Night Football, as it uses the "flex" scheduling. If Fox chooses to broadcast a game nationally, no dates have to be changed, just the kickoff. Unfortunately, I don't think any other network besides CBS is capable of regionalizing the Sunday afternoon games like Fox. I'd love to see the Fox guys do it year round though. They have a lot of fun doing what they do, and it comes across. We laugh and gasp with them.
why do I repeatedly watch this entire broadcast.. when i know what tragedy will occur.. guess it human nature to want to relive what happened. maybe in some out of place hindsight where subconsciously I think something might go different this time.. it never does
@tdiharold5265 Depends on who. If it was another big star on the order of Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace, Tony Stewart, etc..., it would still have been the story of the year. If however it was Hut Stricklin or Robert Pressley or something, it would have sadly been forgotten.
No he wouldn't. He'd be running DEI. He said he was probably going to retire the same year "Crusty" Rusty retired, 2005. In his eyes, DEI was going to be Dale Jr.'s future, with Dale Sr. running it. That's what pisses me off most about Dale Jr. leaving DEI thanks to Teresa. The irony is, DEI is gone (in a sense) and the "new" company isn't owned by just her.
@88fanforlife DEI's equipment would probably be better, that's for sure. I'm just not sure if Dale Jr is championship material. He can hardly run very well in Hendrick stuff, and that' s the cream of the crop in today's Cup Series. If he can't win at Hendrick, he probably won't win anywhere. Which sucks considering he's my favorite "active" driver.
@Ernde38 im not trying to make excuses for jr, but since jimmie was singed the 25 has never done anything, and now jr is in that car but it just has an 88 to cover up the 25
@88fanforlife The 25/50/88 team hasn't done much since Schrader drove it. The teams last really good year was 94 with Schrader behind the wheel. It's pretty much underachieved since then with Schrader (95-96), Craven (97-98), Dallenbach, Jr. (98-99), Nadeau (00-02), Nemechek (02-03), Vickers (03-06), Mears (07), and Earnhardt, Jr. (08-Present).
when this was live, all these announcers didn't know that their greatest driver was going to die in about 4 hours. it fucking sucks. i wish dale was still alive, he'd be kicking kyle busch's ass.
@flyer2359 CBS sucked. In 1996, 5 years before FOX, there coverage was still horrible. It did not have scoring monitors, and it sounds like it was produced in the fucking 1980s.
@GoDalejr88 I asked Mike Joy that via email back when they were negotiating the current TV deal, and he said FOX would only try that if they ever lose the rights to the NFL.
None of us had any idea we'd lose a legend that day.

That voiceover at the beginning is awesome! If only NASCAR on FOX still had the same graphics and music to this day.
