  • None of us had any idea we'd lose a legend that day.

  • It's the most fucked up feeling of seeing Dale before lap 200....

  • That voiceover at the beginning is awesome! If only NASCAR on FOX still had the same graphics and music to this day.

  • @caseyreavis why?

  • I'm with everyone about the Fox Crew. The chemistry is unmatched. I was so depressed when NBC got the second half of races that year. I felt like those guys had ziltch chemistry. I was let down majorly by the ESPN crew. I expected SO much better from them. I love this group of pit reporters best too. And how 'bout Bill Elliott getting still getting poles in 2001?

  • It's more likely that Fox would even attpemt to acquire Sunday Night Football, as it uses the "flex" scheduling. If Fox chooses to broadcast a game nationally, no dates have to be changed, just the kickoff. Unfortunately, I don't think any other network besides CBS is capable of regionalizing the Sunday afternoon games like Fox. I'd love to see the Fox guys do it year round though. They have a lot of fun doing what they do, and it comes across. We laugh and gasp with them.

  • It always gets harder to watch this every time cause I know whats at the end, I just never know why I keep watching this at this time every year.

  • @MrRex41591 It is weird.

  • The first coverage of Fox Sports in Nascar history.

  • @HadesRacing No, it isn't. They did the Budweiser Shootout a week earlier.

  • gives me chills down my spine.

  • why do I repeatedly watch this entire broadcast.. when i know what tragedy will occur.. guess it human nature to want to relive what happened. maybe in some out of place hindsight where subconsciously I think something might go different this time.. it never does

  • Wow, it's almost chilling that they showed Dale's face first.

  • any body find it hard to watch when dale is on

  • yea brian france screwed that up to most

    likely

  • nascar on fox is the best

  • im guessing if another driver dies instead of dale then we forget about it at end of the year

  • @tdiharold5265 Depends on who. If it was another big star on the order of Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace, Tony Stewart, etc..., it would still have been the story of the year. If however it was Hut Stricklin or Robert Pressley or something, it would have sadly been forgotten.

  • so sad they showed Dale first in his last drivers meeting

  • i miss those days, 2001-2004...

  • Like the Fortunate Son at the end

  • i'm a Gordon fan, but that will always be the saddest day in NASCAR, and one of the saddest days in sports history.

  • great vid thanks for sharing and dale sr would long be retired by now if still alive

  • no, he was 2nd in points in 2000, he probably would be racing by now

  • No he wouldn't. He'd be running DEI. He said he was probably going to retire the same year "Crusty" Rusty retired, 2005. In his eyes, DEI was going to be Dale Jr.'s future, with Dale Sr. running it. That's what pisses me off most about Dale Jr. leaving DEI thanks to Teresa. The irony is, DEI is gone (in a sense) and the "new" company isn't owned by just her.

  • @Ernde38 and it sucks to cause if sr was still alive jr would probably, no defiantly would be a champion

  • @88fanforlife DEI's equipment would probably be better, that's for sure. I'm just not sure if Dale Jr is championship material. He can hardly run very well in Hendrick stuff, and that' s the cream of the crop in today's Cup Series. If he can't win at Hendrick, he probably won't win anywhere. Which sucks considering he's my favorite "active" driver.

  • @Ernde38 im not trying to make excuses for jr, but since jimmie was singed the 25 has never done anything, and now jr is in that car but it just has an 88 to cover up the 25

  • @88fanforlife The 25/50/88 team hasn't done much since Schrader drove it. The teams last really good year was 94 with Schrader behind the wheel. It's pretty much underachieved since then with Schrader (95-96), Craven (97-98), Dallenbach, Jr. (98-99), Nadeau (00-02), Nemechek (02-03), Vickers (03-06), Mears (07), and Earnhardt, Jr. (08-Present).

  • @Ernde38 you cant really count 08 as a bad year for jr, even though he kinda slipped at the end 08 was still really good for him

  • @88fanforlife I guess, but he finished 12th in the standings.

  • 0:39

    DALE EARNHART ROCKS!

  • I miss this version of the NASCAR on FOX theme... Also the shorter pre race show, and the earlier start time.

330 in the afternoon is rediculous.

  • Comment removed

  • @racermac1988 but at least they moved back to the regular start times 1 3 and 730

  • @racermac1988 totally agree with you, this was probally some of the best nascar ever.

  • @racermac1988 now it is 1:00pm!

  • @racermac1988 It's like they are catering to the west coast.

  • And is it just me or did D.W. use the Wilma joke in this year's (2011) Bud Shootout? Gotta love it!

  • @bobolob He used the Wilma joke He did the same thing in 2010.

  • @PGOLDEN88 No I have to go back and remember which Wilma joke we're talking about :-\

  • @racermac1988 we have the start time back now but we still dont have awesome theme....

  • @racermac1988 Fox did a really good job with this, this year huh?

  • what song is playing at 7:39

  • Middle of the road by The Pretenders

  • 0:22

look at the little car on the right.

    black #3 =D

    we miss you dale.

they didnt mean for the car to represent dale sr either =]

  • "The track...electric."

They run slot cars around Daytona?

  • when this was live, all these announcers didn't know that their greatest driver was going to die in about 4 hours. it fucking sucks. i wish dale was still alive, he'd be kicking kyle busch's ass.

  • I would pay to see that.

  • I miss that guy so much. I'm sure by this time he'd have Gordon under his feet even more and he'd have championships 8 and maybe even 9.

We'll never see another like him.

  • Unfortunante About What Happened With Earnhardt, But That Ws The Day Boogity, Boogity, Boogity Was Born!!!!!

  • damn it sucks not having dale earnhardt around anymore very tragic

  • l love fox i wish they would get full coverage of nascar

  • Too bad fox has this little thing called the NFL.

  • I agree but CBS was better when they still broadcasted the races.

  • @flyer2359 CBS sucked. In 1996, 5 years before FOX, there coverage was still horrible. It did not have scoring monitors, and it sounds like it was produced in the fucking 1980s.

  • @GoDalejr88 I asked Mike Joy that via email back when they were negotiating the current TV deal, and he said FOX would only try that if they ever lose the rights to the NFL.

  • @Ernde38 And we know that would never happen.

  • @CookieDude1178999 A simple solution to that is to give Fox the television rights to Monday Night Football

  • Unfortunately, It will never be possible as long as Fox carries the NFL. I would perfer them to the piece of shit that is ESPN during the Chase.

  • @GoDalejr88 you are not alone

  • @GoDalejr88 I'd rather give it to MRN. I love FOX but MRN does it better.

  • Bring the slick hair back Jeff Hammond!lol Thanks for the posting this pre-race show that is awesome!

  • i agree that the cot's do suck. especially at daytona. that race this year was boring as hell

  • WTF that race was gr8, just no big one.

  • no this last race at talladega was good. i was at that one and the racing was tight

  • i know, that race was good, but so was daytonas

  • there was a big one with tony stewart fliping over on the backstrech.

  • You think the cot sucks but I dont care as long as it my drivers safe

  • I think the old cars look better.

  • This is just a side note; but darn, I miss the old cars. The C.O.T.s sucks.

  • OH HELL YEAH fuck the cot its sucks so much bring the 90's car back

  • Don't forget the cars of the late 80's, talking probably around 1986 to about 1989

  • nascar sucks without sr

  • What was a great race that would later be marred by tragedy.

  • this really cool

  • i have this on dvd to

  • i was at this race it was my 23rd time in the winston tower now sprintower

  • what was it like

  • What DVD?

  • i have it on dvd but i had it on vhs then riped it to dvd
