There is something about Scottish Girls that they strive for the higher, operatic ranges---like Beth Fraizer of Cocteau Twins. SOMEBODY PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE LP?CD VERSION---LIVE USUALLY SUCKS!!! Same with After the Rain
Saw this band at Leeds Polytechnic many moons ago - mid to late eighties i guess.
My one abiding memory of the gig was of a much longer intro to this number and done in a way that had my full attention throughout, very different to the usual beginning.
as a musician my self and being young at the time i struggled to make sense of the fact that woman who normally might not be interested in me would be suddenly very interested when they saw me play .Julianne mad me understand .
Julianne Regan has the most beutiful voice in the history of humankind. Im 40 years old and would still give up my life just to drink a pint of her bathwater!
Love this, looking up into the clouds with your love beside you, UMMMMMMM so beautiful. One of the most wonderful groups Ihave heard in a long time, so glad MY Dear friend shared with me. : -)
Oh wow, hearing this reminds me of many sweet hours listening to this album with my first girlfriend... ah the dreams and the sweet memories come drifting back... x
I said Andy Cousin(s) or whatever NOT the Stone Roses bass player who I didn't actually name you pedantic twat, to clear pompous matters up. Thanks anyway deary.
I like 'em but they were never cool in the N.M.E after their association with the Mission, Julianne wanted to be an N.M.E journalist ironically enough, but she's far too intellegent for that cynical rag. Oh and I still think she's singing 'semolina' on that Mission track. Peace on.
Tim Bricheno's from Liversedge(according to my friend who's from there), Andy Cousin(not the Stone Roses bassist) is from Mirfield, Hovis kid Mark Price is from Burnley(via er.. Nik Kershaw!!)and Julianne is from Coventry(lady Godiva!). To clear geeky matters up.
I saw this band supporting simple minds at roundhay park in leeds,it was the first time I had heard of them and they were fantastic, they were quite powerful,I think they might have been from leeds I'm not quite sure.
That programme was called 'Rock Steady' and was on Channel 4, presented by Nicky Horne with Irish radio DJ Dave Fanning as the 'roving reporter' at a gig near you every week. This performance was at Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom was it not ???
Thank you for your information. Its original source would be so.
There was another highlight programme (for the viewers outside of the UK , I suppose) called "Funky Rock Live" hosted by Dave Fanning alone. Please see also Lloyd Cole's "A Long Way Down" video with the credits. I have taken this clip from its Japanese coverage re-entitled as "British Rock."
Reminds me back to the heady days of May 1988. Just passed my driving test and thought this was the dog's bollocks. Very powerful stuff. Got me into Kate Bush too, which had to be a good thing!
Also, does anyone remember their performance on Top of The Pops I think they were singing Martha's Harbour and she totally broke down crying while singing it, thats what It looked like anyway!!!
julianne beautiful voice, beutiful song..stow on the wold forever..i remember having the video of all their songs, its gone now but this has brought back all those treasured memories...im now searching for what kind of fool
first time i seen AAE was back in 1989 supporting the cure. and they blew fat bob and the boys off the stage.
