Dianne's performance is outstanding - one of the greatest comedic performances to hit the screen. Credit also has to go to Woody Allen and Douglas McGrath's side-splitting script that provided Dianne with the words.
@CharmingSage Is this Dianne Weist herself posting?? That's the only excuse for such over the top emotion.
and, hah, yeah..... I guess people like you have no reason to use your own minds on these things, just look at whatever the Academy tells you was the best performance/film etc. for any given year and you'll be fine. No thinking required. No need to waste your own brain cells.

Ok, this is a Harvey Weinstein Miramax film so I'll have to take this off my favourites list too, due to their support of child rapist Roman Polanski. I hope I still have any favourites left by the end of the day!
it's soo funny bc diane wiest has a very sweet high pitch voice, but her character in this movie is entirely different from her! She deserved that second oscar!!!
This is perhaps the greatest Dianne Wiest role! She escaped that squeaky voiced good girl role for a vain but divine actress who John Cusack falls for.
I love Dianne Wiest in this role. She absolutely deserved the Oscar. She also won an Academy Award after performing Holly in Woody Allen's "Hanna and her sisiters" in 1986.
There's a scene in one of her other movies "Parenthood" where her character is screaming with her daughter, played by Martha Plimpton (also one of my favourite female actors) which hints at her ability to take on (to put it mildly) any subject matter. Amoungst other things in the Parenthood scene(and at her full screaming tilt) she mentions certain unmentionable devices. Then later a one liner to Martha's character when they have calmed down...well let's just say Ms Weist is rather versatile(!)
I do Electra! I do Lady Macbeth!... I never play frumps or virgins!... Diane Weist and Miranda Richardson... separated at birth. My two favourite female actors. Thanks Otheatre. I love this movie and this is my favourite scene.
I know that Bullets over Broadway is not one of the classic movies by Woody Allen BUT along with Mighty Aphrodite and Deconstructing Harry is my favorite Woody Allen movie

I kept expecting her to say, "I AM BIG! It's the pictures who got small."

Love how Wiest nailed the concept of the bombastic 20's moll!! Every scene she did was funny, even where she & David walk in the park!!

She was truly brilliant in that role.

damn. why can't I find any Jennifer Tilly scenes? Diane Wiest was just annoying in this. Tilly stole the show.

You FUCKING IDIOT.
Why the hell did she win the Oscar for if she was so bad? Get some fucking education.

Jennifer Tilly was justly nominated as well! It takes a great actress to play and act as a lousy actress and make it seem real!

I still find it hard to believe Diane Wiest played this roll.
I was always used to seeing her play meek and ditzy. I didn't know she had it in her.
