The Possum and the Hag, now you just can't get it no better than that. This new music that is suppose to be passing for country has me confused. It don't sound like country to me; however, this great song is exactly what country music should be , and I miss it!
I love George's music as much as I despise today's so called "country" music. It's just a bunch of airhead pop tart teenyboppers like Taylor Swift and no talent white trash like Jason Aldean.
@dhuang8 Couldn't agree more. Country music stopped somewhere in the early 90's. The 60's through the 80's was the way it's supposed to be done. It seemed to start turning to pop music with Shania Twain.
George Jones doesn't need all the sound affects and sounds great when he sings acapella. Hope I spelled the word right, it's underlined in red? Just in case I didn't, George's voice doesn't even need a backup band. He's also a fine musician. I've heard him play piano and guitar !!
I love, I revere, George Jones in the same way I love and revere B.B. King... and he's got so much soul that I'm willing to overlook the fact that he didn't nail the melody.
Um, he nailed it, period. I think it is probably the best rendition of the song by anyone, including Willie and Elvis. I say that being a huge Elvis fan. Amazing job!!!!
He didn't nail the melody, which spans over two octaves.
(I refer you to performances by Jimmy Elledge, Narvel Felts, and some guy named Hinton, to hear it sung as written. To be fair, Willie himself couldn't have sung it as he wrote it.)
The possum is one of the greatest country voices ever. So sad to see these greats not only leave us, but to see country music become nothing more that rehashed 60's rock.
Willie Nelson has to be one of the greatest writers of all time and to hear so many do this song is a tribute to him. I love Brenda Lee's version as much as this one.
i'm so glad i found this song by george...its just great...don't need faces of these so called new artist on the same video with george...there not country
George Jones the best country singer ever lived , love him love him love him ...when i was younger i had a crush on him....he's getting up there now i seen him in concert 4 times the last going off in 2008 massey hall, and he didnt really seem to enjoy it anymore it was like nancy pushed him out on stage and said now go sing and make us some more money...he doesnt even play the guitar anymore.....i still love you George and allways will ...your biggest fan jen xo
they should make a movie about george jones starring jim carrey. jim would be perfect. especially in george's younger years. imagine the lawnmower to bar scene. lol
You make it sound like he's dead. This was made in 2005, released on a new album called "Hits I Missed and One I Didn't." I love George Jones also, the best of all time in my opinion.
I've listened to this about eighty times since I first heard it here. It sounds great every time. I can't believe the notes and turn of phrase he sings. Utterly brilliant.
I am going to see the Possum on November 28th here in Indiana. I sure hope he does this one! I saw him at the same venue three years ago. He will be 78 this trip. His birthday is September 12.
Well, the Little Opry House in Nashville Indiana burned to the ground a couple months ago.....................I gotta find some place I can drive to so I can see the Possum one more time.
This man is my ABSOLUTE favorite. I saw him in concert a few weeks back and it was really sad. I hate to see a legend like this starting to slip and the band around him act if it was painful for them to be there. George you will ALWAYS be number 1 in my book! Thanks for all the GREAT music!!!
I have loved this man a long ,long time and I know his faults and habits. But I have to say I loved Tammy also and between the two , we had the greatest country legends. this music will always make me feel great.
There are some rare times when songs just seem to "fit" the singer and his voice. This is such a time. Absolutely wonderfull rendition of a country classic by a "TRUE COUNTRY CLASSIC". The Possum is the greatest!!!!!
i can see you all have been getting in the jones spirit. someone said, thanks for pottsking. well george is telling the truth. we all have a set time. it does slip away quickly. i still feel like a kid, but time has not been kind to everyone.
Damn you George! The only man that can make me cry, lol.
