I was having extreme trouble trying to connect this exact camcorder to my macbook until I opened up iMovie and then plugged in the USB and all of a sudden it popped up and allowed me to import everything! I was just about ready to go buy a 30$ firewire cable and Im glad I didnt but I looked for hours trying to find answers and I just found it out on my own. Hope this helps :)
vI want the BEST quality camcorder I can get for less then $1000 (that I could possibly get on eBay around or less than $500). I was originally going to purchase the HDR-PJ10 by Sony, but then I realized I don't need the projector...I really am just interested in video quality. I will usually have good lighting etc. I also need it to be reasonably simple to use (not the most techy person). Also, is it easy to upload and edit on iMovie'11 and Final Cut Pro? Any suggestions? Thank you :)!
Your review was good, however, you missed a very important part of this camera.
You missed mentioning and showing the stereo speakers built on the bottom inside of the LCD screen. Those stereo speakers are for playback and have terrific sound, same on the projector models.
I also read on a Mac Forum that it doesn´t work on Mac, but I´m not quite sure. Has anyone in here tried to download and edit a video from this camera on a Mac? My purchase depends on this.
@vanessaramosv I don't have a Mac so I didn't test out importing and editing footage on one but the documentation did say it was compatible with all that.
is it a kind of matte finish plastic material like the ps3 slim? and what is that color? the material for the sony HDR cx305e is mmuuuccchhh better looking.
@mrinvincible8 It's matte plastic and some more magnesium alloy feeling areas. If you've ever tried out a Toshiba Portege R800 series, it feels very similar to those.
@ChrisWelldone Around 3 minutes in? I meant that since the camera only has two modes (but multiple scene features) why it would need both a picture mode button and a mode switcher button.
@thereturningcow I don't own a Mac so I didn't test that but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work well since it is officially supported. Performance would vary depending on specs of the computer, but that's true for anything.
@TorchonFire thanks for uploading the review..scrutinized a whole lot of full HD low cost amateur camcorders and finally shortlisted to Panasonic HDC-SD800 and SONY HDR-CX 360. Panasonic was put aside right before sending money to e-shop - reason - the cooler, responsible for cooling down the processor.I started to be afraid for this component to fail in a while as I intend to shoot in severe Russian weather conditions which would jeopardize the integrity of the moving part (cooler) am I right?
@thereturningcow this camera works directly with iMovie and Macs which is why i am going to buy it. Sony and mac have partnered for the iPhone 5 and most of their products will interface with each other very well from now on.
@MezcalPromotions It depends on what you use to edit them but if you use iMovie it's pretty straightforward. Just open iMovie, plug the camera in, turn it on, and there should be a popup. For any program though there should be a pretty easy to use import feature in the menu.

Can you turn it on without using an external battery or do you need the battery to run the camera?

This camera is being sold pretty cheap online. I saw this one brand new for under $200 on eBay #250871092114. Looks like a steal!
