Great video. I recently went out to Red Sands to see and film the forts for a video I am making about how London has defended itself throughout the ages. What an amazing sight. I truly hope they are restored and maintained and that Maunsell is given the credit he deserves.
@mrspivvy a team called project redsands is in the process of restoring red sands fort. which is realy good and hopfuly they will restore it soon so people can actualy go on it.
out of the 7 forts (army/navy) that were in the Thames Estuary (excluding the Mersey Estuary) Only 4 remain. Tongue Sands off Margate, fell into the sea in the 1990's, Nore Was dismantled in the 59 and Sunk Head Fort off Frinton on Sea was blown up on Government instructions. Also a ship crashed in one of the Towers on Shiveing Sands in 1963. Part of the tower end up in Southend.
Great video, thanks for posting. :-)

During the war, the sea forts were a top secret during the war.
Yeah SURE and you cannot see them from the coast or anything...

I think they ought to preserve at least one of these for posterity, maybe bring it ashore as a museum

@ajom010k That is good news! I think they've been left to rot for quite long enough

I'm surprised that some of the are still standing. They were never fully anchored to the sea bed.

Thanks. I always wondered what they were like back in the day. It's a shame they're in such bad condition now...
