I really love this camera! Very nice for my time-lapse movies. I can do time-lapse photography with the NEX using this simple remote intervalometer:TEMPUS. have you tryed it? website at: tempus.bymac.org
The lens adapter only says "Nikon G - NEX" there is no name brand on it. if you search ebay search Sony NEX nikon adapter and they pop up, you can add the letter G in the search for the G lens if thet is the lens you have to narrow the search
Hi thanks for the helpful video! and hey, just to clarify.. you are using the 14.2mp version of NEX5, and not the NEX-5N right? So you must be using the firmware ver 4, to have the peaking feature? I am about to buy this camera but just to be on the safe side, I want to know whether updating to ver 4 will still have the ver 3 feature of aperture control? (I guess it will be there since you use it in your video) I hope you can clear my doubts, thank you very much!
@teja89max On the sony nex-5 you can control the aperture for pictures but video you cant, it basically is on auto during video. The nex-5n and nex-7 they say it has video control like the panasonic gh2 (I think thats the one they compared it to) but the nex-5 old and new firmware wont control the aperture during filming, it just jumps to auto so controlling depth of field is hard. I suggest getting the nex-5N if you have not purchased one yet, its much better
@eviltig Oh thank you very much! But I will mostly be using MANUAL only lenses since I need it only for professional work :) just like you do in this video.. So I wouldn't need any kind of autofocus lenses.. So I can just use the old NEX-5 with old lenses managing the aperture and focus by rings on the lens right? I am on a very limited budget so shall I go with the old NEX5?
@oxtherunt There is a ring on the adapter that controls the switch on the lens to open and close it, it shows it at 0:35 into the video, it will lock it open or closed and all in between
You don't have a Nex to Nikon G mount.. you have a Nex to Nikon F mount.
All DSLR lenses by Nikon are F mount. A "G" lens is missing the aperture ring (the new ones). The 50mm you are using in this clip has the aperture ring, and is therefor not a G lens. :)
Have you tested the peak function on manual focus?
@symirabi Ah I get a bit confused on all the letters sometimes, I just read what the adapter said "Nikon G mount --- NEX" and my other lenses say G on them and not F so I have no clue (haha). Very interesting....
Ive played with the peak function on manual but not allot.
@assified Unfortunately no, only manual focus... There is a adapter to use other sony lenses that will control the auto focus on them but when you go to Nikon or canon adapters for it the auto focus does not work
@eviltig Thank you for your prompt response buddy, it would have been a nice feature if they could somehow make it work specially for taking videos on an ordinary day.
This is a great camera! And because it has infrared, you can do Time Lapse Photography with this camera. Check out this device for doing just that: TempusNEX (copy to address bar) : tempus.bymac.org
@MrPonceWindu No its just one adapter, front is nikon g lens mount and the back is the sony alpha mount all one piece with a aperture ring to control it for the lenses the camera cant communicate with
@GodericG With the right adapter many different brands can be put on. I think you can do canon lenses too with the canon adapter but auto focus will not work with the nikon ect.
Thanks for posting this. I haven't had much of a chance to play with my camera the last few days, but it's great to know that I can adjust the exposure in movie mode, something I couldn't do with my HDR-TG1 (which was terrible in low-light). I've used the MF Assist in camera mode and I think it's a great feature that I'll be using often.

Just wondering, how do you adjust the aperture on a G type lens with the adapter?

Thank for answering my question on manual focusing. The exposure compensation during video mode seem useful for many situation.
Does the lack of viewfinder bother you?
