2) so the church funded the campaign (ie- commercials, etc) against legalizing gay marriage and it didn't pass so that's why people are blaming them? i'm just trying to understand.

@vishushollishus - The issue is not that the church FUNDED the campaign, it's that the church COVERED THEIR INVOLVEMENT manipulated the California electorate. The LDS church was found guilty of misrepresenting their involvement in the campaign and forced to pay a fine. If nothing else, that is validation that ranking leaders of the church behaved dishonestly in their dealings with their fellow man and are therefore unworthy to enter their own temple.

ok, so i grew up mormon and my whole family is still active.. this is the first i've heard about this prop 8 stuff and i'm just trying to find the facts. and i can't seem to find any. this is the closest i've gotten to getting some answers. ok so 1) questioning a leader of the church is not excommunication worthy or even dis fellowship worthy that's just stupid. and

@vishushollishus - In fact, questioning the leaders of the church constitute grounds for excommunication. There are countless letters of excommunication from the church that site that very reason (copies available on the internet). The temple "worthiness" interview also asks about loyalty to the church, teachings and leaders as a pre-requisite for entrance. Regardless of the exact wording, members of this church are trained to OBEY WITHOUT QUESTION or risk eternal salvation.
