  • wow to be honest he was out

  • @dmr4736 TIE GOES TO THE RUNNER MY BOY.

  • jackie robinson was a bad man

  • He was out but it was very close. Robinson is still a baseball legend as is Berra.

  • I still can't believe Kellert didn't swing the bat and make contact with Berra for the catcher's interference.

  • S A F E

  • Robinson was OUT. Berra put his glove(with ball in it) exactly where it is supposed to be. It was close, but Robinson slid into the glove, which was between him and home plate. Yer out!

  • it is sad how people booed him on

  • He was out then and he's still out now - - watch footage and see the ump calling the play even before Robinson got near the plate!!

  • S-A-F-E

  • wow the announcer was pumped

  • WOW! SO, SO damn close! Still hard to tell with that black & white footage... Now, even though it was close, I say Jack just made it in with his right foot before Yog could get the tag down. Obviously today in 2011 Yog will tell 'ya ass otherwise. :-) But if 'ya ask me, and most of BK, Jack Robinson was safe at home. At The Stadium, in Game 1 of that now-legendary '55 World Series.

LONG LIVE THE 1955 WORLD CHAMPIONS, SON! The BROOKLYN Dodgers!!! Brooklyn: where they were a REAL baseball team.

  • OUT

  • Safe!!!

  • OUT!

  • he was out

  • Any idea how much a signed ball by berra with paperwork and everything is worth?

  • I love Jackie...but he was out.

  • Wow..he's out

  • search steals home and the top 3 results are against yankees. awesome

  • @Alakazam231 the yankees were probably up by 10 runs in each of those games

  • @JohnnyJay33 it says the score in the description wow

  • The real bum in that play was the home plate umpire who made the call while blindsided by Berra. Maybe Robinson was out. Berra would not have blown his stack like that if Robinson was safe.

  • he's out !!

  • What a daring maneuver

  • @NewToTheLyte he's sayin that Jackie took a risk stealing home, basically

  • Plate umpire Bill Summers and Jackie both died long ago and were never interviewed about the play. Yogi has always said Jackie was out. Whitey has always agreed. Before he died, Phil Rizzuto said he had the best view of the play from playing shortstop, and Jackie was safe. Whitey didn't like that, so he looked it up: The Scooter HAD started the game at short, but by the time of the steal, Jerry Coleman was at short. The Scooter blew it! Casey had pinch-hit for him, with Eddie... Robinson.

  • @UncleMikeNJ Hoooooooly Cow!

  • they were both great but J,R, was out

  • he was out. but i think berra could have been called for interference, it looks like the batter could have taken his head off.

  • BTW GO DODGERS

  • SAFE! JACKIE IS THE MAN!

  • He was clearly out (at :16), and the umpire was in NO position to make the call....directly behind Berra. What a joke and a disgrace of a call. I don't blame Berra for going ballistic.

  • the all steal against the yankees

  • EPIC OUT.

  • safe by a mile

  • if the batter would have swung it woulda been safe anyway, catcher interference

  • jackie robinson was such a house nigger....he totally killed negro basbeball

  • @LeFruFru You're a an idiot. He opened the doors for Negro Baseball. More money, better overall talent, and it gave Latinos and later Asians a window to join as well. Pro Football and Basketball killed Negro Baseball, and its a shame.

  • @HeavyD2544 you're an a idiot! all the black players went to WHITE MLB and left NB to dry up like a ghost town! Why don't you factual assholes learn some facts by putting your head up your assholes.

  • @LeFruFru You're an idiot. I have nothing more to say to you. You're what brings us black folks down in this society.

  • out haha

  • What a great announcer

  • out

  • I think this was as close of a play as Posada's tag in the leg on Giambi. Those are 2 very borderline calls that could have gone either way each time. 1 went against the Yankees, 1 went for the Yankees, so call it even LOL

  • Christ can the announcer be any more exciting? What a boring ass.

  • Worst call at home plate ever in W.S

  • Yankees won the game, 6-5, but the Dodgers prevailed overall in 7 games, their only World Series win in Brooklyn.

  • In this weeks Sports Illustrated Yogi still says he was out, and looking at this video he's right.

  • the announcer was like that because jackie's black, its sad but its true

back then they dont get excited when a black person does something good

  • 00:13-00:16 SAYS IT ALL!!!

  • Guys sliding into the not counts as an applied tag... Yogi had the not infront of the plate how could he be safe??? OUT!!!

  • THAT UMPIRE IS TIM DONAUGHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SAFE!

  • Why are people saying it was "out" ? Get over yourselves.

He was SAFE. The umpire called him SAFE. In baseball, the umpire's decision is - and always will be - final.

  • @xalstarx It was a very close play, and in baseball, there are no wrong answers on a close play.

  • ass catcher, racist

  • Out I pulled the same stunt at my game I got called safe too but at my game today I was out

  • He was OUT!

  • sorry yogi. i got this poster on my wall. his ass was definitely safe

  • @juke521 if he slides into the glove, that's an out..can you please reword that.

anyway, yogi genuinely thought he was out. yogi rarely lost his cool like that

  • Jackie Rob the pioneer, Yogi Berra greatest yankee catcher ever.

    This is classic footage

  • @JohnnyJay33 Yogi Berra, greatest catcher EVER.

    There, fixed it.

  • Out.

  • safe. Yogi never applied the tag. Jackie just slid into his glove AND THEN THE PLATE

  • he was clearly tagged out, but the rule im not sure about is the catcher being on top of homeplate like that. what if the batter swung?

  • @allefakcor The batter should have smacked him on the head :D

  • Umpire Summers was clearly WRONG in calling "safe" on this play----Robinson

was clearly OUT ! I don't care what anybody says: he was OUT !!

  • The batter never looked at Robinson, and the batter was still in he batter's box. Maybe the rules were different back then, but in today's game, that would be interference.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 nope the batters box is the batters area its his right to stay in there

  • @chibear1996 CATCHER INTERFERENCE. Did you just read that one comment?

  • haha yogi

  • That was an out.You can totally tell.Stupid umpire.

  • What was Yogi doing standing on home plate before the ball even got there? Isn't that catcher interference? What if the batter had swung?

  • @KayBeeEee1983 No because if you look at Robinson, the cathcer, and the batter, the batter will see robinson trying to steal home, and the batter just stopd for a while, then Robinson stole home(looked more like an out)

  • Jackie stole home a lot and was successful at it many times legitimately. This one time it looks really close but other times he was safe by a lot. Look how much the umpire lets Yogi Berra yell and doesn't throw him out. Wish umpires today had more sack and would let a guy talk without throwing them out.

  • @vaibanez17 Agreed. You can't even argue a ball/strike call before getting tossed even if it's blatant.

  • Comment removed

  • I could call it out clearly

  • back then every1 was like wow ok now every1s like holy shit woooooooooooooo

  • In an interview with Duke Snider..Jackie Robinson tells him that he thought he was out..But umpire Summers saw it differently...

  • To this day, Yogi swears he was OUT! Watching in stop action slow motion he was out..ball beat him there and he slid right into Yogi's glove...but in regular motion there is no way the umpire could see that..it would look like a tie to him...and as we all know A TIE GOES TO THE RUNNER!

  • That's about as close as you can get....wow!

  • were the announcers back then actually as bored as they sounded or was it all for show???

  • His running is beautiful!!!

  • the fact that he did it against yogi is amazing lol

  • lol i think i saw fire come from his mouth! @_@ rofl! he was not a happy boy.

  • @Cena1wrestlmaniaXXV go back to watching WWE because jackie was safe.

  • i love jackie but i agree with berra

  • Yogi was PISSED!

  • he was out by a mile the catcher had the ball well before jackie was there and his foot slid right into the catchers glove

  • God damn it was like 50 years ago who cares if he was out

  • Out yogi was right

  • @drjoe2323 no look closely and hes safe look at 0:14

  • Usually when its that close the umpire will give it to the runner for the effort.

  • he was out from our side. but from what the pitcher can see he was safe. so doesnt matter if hes out or not now. it was 60+ years ago

  • first of all, if the batter had simply swung, it would have been interference...

and robinson was out... we all can see it...

  • Comment removed

  • He was out

  • search ZOMBIELAZERS

  • His toe touched the plate before he got tagged.

  • I liked when Jayson werth stole home

  • @JayT851 - I wish he could just TOUCH home plate some more times for the Nationals!

  • @WSenator1 Hows he doing for the Nationals? I didnt see him in the All star game

  • @JayT851 - You didn't see Jayson Werth in the All-Star Game because he wasn't even near good enough to BE in the ASG! As of this moment, he's been nothing but a dog's ass of a player - and a person. Hitting .220, if THAT, and arrogant to the public about it. OY!

  • @WSenator1 Damn he was liked in Phillie for a while and he is way better then Pat Burrell atleast. I hate Pat Burrel

  • @JayT851 - He was liked in Philly because he was a good player in Philly. Whenever he makes an out with runners on base this year (which has become a ritual of his), the boos come down like rain. If he played as badly in Phila as he is doing in DC, he wouldn't have escaped there alive!

  • @WSenator1 It doesn't help when the team you play for is awful. Granted, he is making a lot of money and that should be motivation enough, but Washington is a shit place to play. Any decent hitter is there is on his own. He has no protection in the lineup and neither does Zimmerman. Zimmerman makes due with talent alone. Put him on Yankees and he hits .320. Put Werth on the Yankees and he might hit .300. Is Werth still getting caught wondering off the bag at second base?

  • @HeavyD2544 - But the team gets less awful when players make a zillion dollars play up at least a little bit to their contract. Maybe if Werth pulled his weight, then some of the others would be better because of HIM, rather than the other way around. And please lighten up on my hometown and its team. Yes, I wish it were better, but all teams - even the Yankees (see mid-60s to early 70s) - were a crap place to play at one time. And you have a good day, too.

  • @WSenator1 True, but I used Zimmerman as an example because he plays up to his ability and still suffers because of the players around him. That's why Zimmerman is still one of the best third baseman without having any protection in the lineup. Werth on the other hand needs it because he isn't as good. Hey man, I know what you mean about crappy teams. I'm from Philly and we were in your position for nearly 15 years before winning the division in 2007. The Yankees were just an example.

  • @HeavyD2544 - Well, if the Nats can end up as the Phillies have (hope it doesn't take 15 years, though - I'll be in a wheelchair by then!), then that'll the worth (a pun here?) the wait. Take care and have a good day.

  • @WSenator1 Hopefully that doesn't happen. I hope my Phillies never slip up and keep kicking everyone's asses for as long as I live. You have a nice day too buddy.

  • @HeavyD2544 - Well, every dog has its day, and today the Phillies seem to be the dog. Anything can happen the next day, though. The Red Sox weren't winners for a VERY long time, but they're doing mighty good now. You can hope about your Phillies never losing again, but. . .they were losers for a VERY LONG time, and that can happen again. Go Nats - and you take care.

  • @WSenator1 Yeah man. The Phillies have more losses than any other major sporting franchise in world history. Most of our history outside of the early 50's, late 70's/early 80's and recently consisted of us being at the bottom of baseball. We're mostly model of mediocrity.

  • @HeavyD2544 - But you're sure not mediocre right now. Howard, Rollins, Lee, Halladay, etc. That's a load right there! And if getting good is good enough for you, that's good enough for us down here in DC to try for.

  • He was out

  • @drob2112 He slide under tha tag

  • @Pigsonfiredotorg

    what he said scrubs

  • He was SAFE ya Yankee Fan

  • OUT

  • Comment removed

  • I was watching the MLB Network one day and Bob Costas was interviewing three retired MLB umpires about a lot of calls throughout the years. Bob Costas then showed a footage of this play from the 3rd base side, this video was never seen before, even the umpires couldn't believe that there was a copy of this play from a different angle. If you watch this video you'll see that Jackie Robinson was safe, by a lot, relatively speaking. His foot went under Yogi's glove. Amazing video. Never seen before.

  • Jackie was safe

  • @beckylovenlaugh Yeah good call (you), to bad the Umpire missed his call..

  • Probably out, but it is pretty hard to tell for sure. He could have gotten his foot in there.

  • Lol. I love everyone saying he was out. What a bunch of fucking losers. First of all, he could've caught the front right corner of the plate before Berra tagged him. Second, the ump called him safe, so he's safe. And third, who the fuck are you to be making a call on 50 year old footage from a bad angle anyways? What, because the ball was there before him? Yeah, you're right, no one has ever missed a tag in the history of baseball. Definitely. You armchair umps are pathetic.

  • @iafrombc He is only safe cuz the ump said he was.. there is one more angle not shown, and it still shows him out.. He is out because the glove was between the foot and the plate. Thats why they stop the vid so you can see that

  • @Lesrevil08 "He is only safe cuz the ump said he was"... and your argument, based on mystery footage, against the call made by someone who was TWO FEET AWAY, is that the glove was between the foot and the plate? Did you read what I wrote? There's also footage that shows Jackie as completely safe. Foot under the tag, catching the corner of the plate. THINK.

  • @iafrombc Well yogi was even closer and he says he was out so.. the up couldnt see as good as him.. and I have seen that footage, and it still shows question.. but this footage shows indisputable evidence

  • WOW THAT ANNOUNCER IS GOING CRAZY

  • @ThePhilliesforlife What happened to the sound???????

  • What if the batter decided to swing at the pitch? Berra would have been charged with interference, the batter would have been awarded 1st base and Robinson home. Berra cought the ball outside of the catcher box and should have been charged with a catchers balk. In this case it appears that Yogi didn't get the tag down...the only opinion that counts is the umpire's....SAFE

  • Rule #1: The Umpire is ALWAYS right. Rule #2: If the Umpire is wrong, read Rule #1.

  • He was out by a mile. And if you watch Ken Burns' Baseball, a guy interviewed Robinson after the game and Robinson said that he thought he was out. He's been out for 56 years and he's never going to be safe.

  • He was safe due to Yogi's interference imo

  • tell'm yogi

  • Babe didn't call his shot !!! Jackie Robinson didn't steal home !!! Jackie was out !!! If you wanna see a player stealing home, watch Aaron Hill of the Blue Jays steal one against Andy Pettite of the Yankees...

  • @aniki111 - If the umpire said he was safe, then he was safe - it doesn't matter what you think, fifty years later. Aaron Hill? Which World Series game did that take place in?

  • @WSenator1 obviously what the guy thinks matter otherwise you wouldn't be commenting. It's called having an opinion, learn it buddy. BTW stealing home doesn't only happen in the World Series, so learn your baseball before you go here an bitch out people. the umpire said you're a dumbass, i guess he's right.

  • @WSenator1 watch the dvd "100 years of the world series" so you'll learn a bit more about this play. btw jackie IS out.

  • even though he was out, it is still one of the greatest moments in baseball history.

  • In the video DVD "100 Years of The World Series", Duke Snider was interviewed. He said that Jackie HIMSELF thought he was out but the ump called him safe. Do we need ny more proof. Dodger Frank Kellert was batting when Jackie made the "attempt" to steal home. You can see Frank looking down on the play, he had the best view. After he was traded he admitted, he saw the tag and Jackie was out.

  • How great was Jackie Robinson? When he stole home in this video -- 1955 he was 36 YEARS OLD -- at the END of his career. Even though he only played 10 seasons, he was 28 as a rookie, having played college ball, then in the Negro League before breaking the color barrier.

  • @liwrtr In an interview in the 1960, Duke Snider said that Jackie HIMSELF told him that he thought he was tagged out but the ump called him safe.

  • he was for sure out lol

  • @jaredross1 then why was he safe?

  • @IFknHateUTube I'm sure all Yankees are guidos. I wonder what it's like to be an ignorant asshole. Care to tell me?

  • i love yogi berra

  • The great Jackie Robinson. Tremendous ball player and a gentleman.

  • "But Yogi Berra doesn't tbhink so..."

That's putting it mildly...I don;t think before or since has Yogi EVER been so mad! WOW! XD

Was he out? Was he safe?

Fortune favors the bold and history--and the tie--favors the runner here, that's all I'm saying (sorry, Yogi, I love ya anyway!) ;)

    Let's Go Mets!

  • he was out !!!!

  • he was clearly out

  • Comment removed

  • What a bad ass

  • pitching from the wind up, he's just daring him... even though he looked out.

  • definatly safe, yogi got the front of the plate and jackie came in behind the tag and got the steal. it was only a inch or so, but to me it looked like he had it.

  • Could this play-by-play guy be any more boring?

  • looked out to me

  • JACKIE WAS SAFE!

  • lets see A.rod do some shit like this

  • haha, yogi's pissed! jackie was a beast!!

  • Not if you understand the meaning of the word. Were I to be hypocritical, then I myself would have been posting my own bigoted statements while also complaining about his.

For my part, I simply reacted to moreman's own words. That he spends his time on Youtube promoting his bigotry proves my point, and calling that out does not make me a bigot.

Now, you can fairly say that I insulted him. And I damn sure did that.

  • To this day, Yogi says, "He was out ! "

  • that announcer sure seems enthusiastic!

  • Not a tie, catcher tagged. Affirmative action ftw!

  • Around the time Robinson played ball, moreman3 would've gotten a clap on the back for that comment; today he'd get his can kicked beyond recognition.

Must be hell to be a living anachronism, left breathing on a planet where you can't find any support (beyond the anonymity of the internet) for your bigotry, let alone feel empowered to express your bigotry in the general public. Such is moreman3's pathetic existence.

  • @sjoflr Hypocritical much? Your last two words ruin your entire argument.

  • Looked out to me. I don't blame Yogi Berra for being angry.

  • Ha. Yogi getting pissed. Great moment in baseball

  • What is (or was) the rule about the catcher leaving the box and blocking the batter? What would have been the call if the batter had swung and hit the catcher?

  • @Moreman3 (lessman3)...Jackie Robinson is not only one of the greatest basball players of all time but one of the greatest Americans of all time. Recogize greatest, and stop showing your limited intelligence to the entire world. You need to go back to school and get a proper education.

  • he's out

  • @danielraglievich tie goes to the runner

  • Jackie's toe hit the plate under the tag.
