These men and women are right up there with Soldiers, Firefighters, and Police as unsung heroes! God bless the few who honestly try to serve, protect, heal, and do no harm for their brothers and sisters out there... if more people cared about each other this way, then these men and women would be out of a job...in a good way... why do we hurt each other so much? It's so frustrating; sometimes I feel like an alien visiting a hostile planet I can't understand!
Its not about the money?? I don't know what world you live in? You bet your ass its about the money! If thats the case Doctors and nurses wouldn't make the money they make. I was an EMT for 4 years and a Paramedic for 9 and it that time one thing is clear its a very under paid profession. Im now pursuing PA for the money...
@iftmedic77 I know what you mean, you have to be there for the money, and I understand its a really under paid profession, but im not in it all for the money, and im NOT saying this because i want to be a hero,or any bull shit like that,i love this job and wouldnt trade it for any other,I've always loved to help people since i was little, thats why I have this job,i wouldnt go to another school throwing the years and money i paid out the window, just because its under paid.
drdgolf if im an idiot because im honest? Than your an ass wipe, Im sorry hero I should call you mother Teresa Mr " I want to help people " your full of shit. There is no dought that's its nice when you help people its a good feeling but when you have to work your ass off just to make ends meet not to mention the advanced interventions Paramedics provide in the pre hospital setting just to be called an ambulance driver by other Medical providers ie doctors and nurses I think its bullshit...
I just noticed, after reading katiebug91313's question to you on your channel blog "are you a paramedic" and your response "No", you are NOT a EMT, paramedic, OR first responder! So I have to re-direct my "THANK YOU" to all of those individuals who ARE! Thank you!
Thank you for ALL you do! The general public have no idea how much you, as EMT's, have to deal with on a daily minute by minute basis. No doubt it takes a VERY special individual to perform the duties and tasks that you must deal with every day as first responders. Once again, THANK YOU!!!
BEST JOB IN THE WORLD.. PRIVATE 911 MEDIC..you are on your own.. you really have to know what you are doing! under pay, over work, going all out just for the patient...
All I can say is: Be prepared to deal with lots of foul smells, sights, and deaths. You can't just walk in to someones home; watch their branchial artery spew blood everywhere and then you pussy off throwing up. You gotta have a strong stomach. Not to mention you will be working crazy shifts. Under paid as well.
Sometimes I wonder why RN's get paid more.... we see people beheaded, dead, burned, and you name it but RN's don't deal with that. I love my job though. Here comes a call right now....
@iftmedic77 your an idiot! i did it for 20 yrs it's the best job in the world. did you think it was going to be easy? it's not about money, helping people is the greatest reward! i paid a price meds for depression and a terrible back but it was worth every minute. i'd do it all over again!!!!!!!
I just drink a 30 pack of Budlight every time im off, It really helps to cope with all the Dialysis calls I run. What makes me vomit is my small paychecks compared to other health care professionals.
Nicely done. People not in the job will never truly get the 'black' humour (ie sick) and can view is as uncarng rather than a coping mechanism.
We're suppposed to have proper de-briefing but it never happens. Only with your colleague there and then. In a caring profession the managers of those carers don't do much caring.(in my service)
Thank you and all the best to you and your colleagues. It can be tough out there - it can be great fun :)
@jalen77232 never have vomited due to trauma. However, a nasty GI bleed will turn my stomach faster than you can blink your eye! Have seen beheadings, amputations, the works... but the only thing to make me throw up was the smell of a GI bleed, and the time I walked into at home and the patient handed me his bowl of "lung butter" (phlegm) pouring out of his trach tube.
@jalen77232 Gastrointestinal bleed. An upper GI bleed is going to be a little nastier than a lower GI bleed but either way, I will not be eating the rest of the day.
I am going into my first year of the Paramedic program. This is probably the biggest question that is on most students' minds. How am I going to deal?
@jwelliot88 You're welcome. :) I'm glad it could be of some help to you. My whole intent of studying psychology is to be of help to others, so I appreciate this comment. :)
@jwelliot88 I'm in the same boat as you kind of. I'll be entering EMT training next year and this is the one thing that worries me most about the occupation! Thanks @AStarliNightSky!
@MetalMieser777 You're welcome. :) Glad I could help. I wish you luck on your journey and thank you in advance for doing one of the hardest jobs but also one of the most needed jobs for the well being of people.
I've always wondered how they deal with seeing what they see, I know when my dad passed they tryed they're best and keep going for almost 2 hours. It didn't work, Just was my dads time to go.
