Would you ever consider transcribing Renfield (From Dracula for solo piano) by Philip Glass? I love it and would like to learn it but can't find the sheet music anywhere, as usual!
@spricedesign I get tons of requests, and I have very little time to do transcriptions, so I'm not going to commit to any new projects at the moment, but I'll keep it in mind.
Not too bad, but listen more closely to the original song. Measure 9 right hand should include the octave above what you have written, and I was very disappointed at the 3rds you have at measure 17. Those are 6ths.
you guys need to listen to Japura River by Philip Glass.
That is the one that inspired Matt Bellamy to write New Born. It has almost exactly the same chord progression and sound even more like it than this one.
It's interesting to see the music this way - highlighting just what it is. Because, though it works very well in the film - a good film - it's pretty poor music by itself. And I have been a Glass fan for a good amount of his music.
I am a fan of both Muse and Philip Glass, and I have a lot of music from both of them. Every time I hear New Born, the beginning is so similar to Glass's whole style that I always think it is something from Glass that I'd never heard before, then the vocals start and I'm like, "Oh, it's that one Muse song that always confuses me." FYI Truman Show was 1998 and the Muse song was 2001, so Muse was probably inspired from this music, not the other way around.
google "truman sleeps sheet music" and on the first hit u find the original sheet music. its a very beautiful song and not that hard 2 play, took me a couple of hours 2 learn.
Half of the music these days is composed in MIDI. Just if the person who creates the MIDI makes it sound generic and uses a very bad soundbank (for example, the ones included on windows) sound bad, does not mean MIDI sounds bad. The people who claim this, have very limited knowledge what MIDI is about
Hahahaa, minus the repeats of the first 2 chords in New Born it pretty much is, however Muse have used the same part on the latter half of Knights Of Cydonia's verse anyway, it's a quite different context and a great piece of music still =] (Can't wait to see Muse in November!)
Do you mean the original music, or this sheet music? If the latter, I transcribed it myself. You can download it from my website (listed in the video's description). If you want the original music, you can get it on Amazon. Just search for "The Truman Show soundtrack."
Man, with the anonymity of the internet people sure turn cold. I, for one, think you did a good job trying to transcribe it. Keep trying I'm sure your skills will improve.
"I transcribed the music by ear", indeed you can see clearly..
This is not even like the original! Just search for "sheet music truman sleeps free pdf download" or somethin like that on google [a little dottie here!] com
Yes, I will be the first to admit that this is a very poor transcription of this piece. That's because this was my first attempt at transcribing anything. I really have only kept it around for nostalgic purposes.
If you want a really good version of this piece, get the PianoThemes one transcribed by Joe Rozell. That version is also hosted on my site (a little further down the music page).
I transcribed the music by ear. You get can get the sheet music I transcribed (in PDF and MIDI format) from the website listed in the video's description.

Hi! there are some mistakes in your transcription. e.g. In bar 17 the melody in the right hand is supposed to be descending sixs (and not thirds)..

I appreciate any insight into Glass's playing because songbooks of his music are so difficult to find. Strong effort.

the reason is because minimalism has not reached its popularity yet hopefully that time will be soon because i love phillip glass

seriously, no music doesnt have flaws, but you have to let it loose a little bit. They did a good job recreating the art.

I love this progression.
Especially from the 2nd inversion of A-flat to C-Major at measures 3&4 and 7&8 and 11&12 etc. etc.

MIDI doesn't suck! Do NOT confuse general MIDI patches with it's substantive programming and expression infrastructure.
