The fact that he didn't care/dare to make it a real tatoo says it all. Sure its mighty fun to recognize a figure with a webcam and draw a 3D figure on top of it, but what is the point? Maybe the idea could be improved if the tatoo itself had the information stored, to draw the 3D figure. Either way, it seems kinda lame.

regardless of what the short-sighted naysayers are uttering in the comments, I think it's a pretty damned cool tattoo/concept (and something that I was planning on getting done myself, even prior to seeing this video)...

It could quite easily tie in with certain elements of Jesse Schell's predictions or the future (DICE 2010: Design Outside the Box), such as advertisement opportunities (which isn't my cup of tea) or perhaps even a marker for an assignable image.. picture logging into a website like deviant-art or whatever, then setting images or animations as your new tattoo (interchangeable at any time).

It's an exciting prospect brimming with potential uses, and would tie in brilliantly with the future of AR.

Look at the comment box - this is a demo from a company. the guy got paid to do this. The company is taking augmented reality photos and turning them into tattoos - this would have some interesting applications in customized web avatars by using special webcams.

Of course, in real life its a black box, so unless they make temporary ones, I don't foresee it taking off as a real technology for a long, long while.
