  • i too was there..i was almost due with my 2nd child and someone had to come out to get us to bring closer to hospital, just in case.. it was awesome!!

  • I lived in Sumter when this happened. I always remember this when it snows. I was a little girl at the time. I remember it was so hard to walk in and it came up to all my legs. I remember climbing on our roof top and jumping off into the snow. What fun it was for us children.

  • I'm from Charlotte ,N.C. and lived in Sumter,S.C. and my husband told me of this snow storm. He speaks of it alot , especially when the weather man says anything about snow. No, Sumter, S.C. has never really gotten that much snow here, since I've been here and I've been here for about 33yrs.wow.So thanks for posting it really happened.lol

  • @MrMoses11

Thank you for watching! I was 10 years old at the time and was stranded in the Toumey Hospital for three days!Needless to say I was happy to get out and play!

  • WHAT? Why cant it snow like this in sumter now?? lol! i'm from massachusetts, and i miss the snow!

  • I here you! Ya-Hooooo!

  • WOW, I am amzed at the video of something so close to my childhood. I lived in Bishopville at the time of this storm. I was 12 and ended up moving to Sumter in late 74. But what I remember most about this storm was the 10-11 inches of sleet we recieved prior to it turning to snow then dumping around 15-16 inches on top of the sleet. No city was prepared for something like this. We were at a standstill for so many days. I was out of school for over two weeks. What a vacation.

  • Wow, this is amazing! My dad was stationed at Shaw at the time, and we have pictures of my parents and 3-year-old me with the 8-foot snowman they built. They crowned him "Julius Snowman" with leaves from a tree in our yard. :-D

  • @wiliqueen Thank You

I was 10! Remember it vividly!

  • Wow! Great video and it brings back a lot of memories. I was 12 and lived on Stuckey Street. I remember my dad trying to get the snow off our neighbors carport roof because it was sagging. It ended up collapsing on their car before he could get the snow off.

  • @azoutdoor Those were good times! Thanks for your comment!

  • This Was Before Shaw Air Force Base Was Here. It Must Have Been Dead.

  • I live in Orangeburg and I remember that very well. This brings back so many memories.

  • I just turned 54 and we probably know each other. I worked at the Winn Dixie on Liberty. The store manager had the National Guard pick me up on Wise Drive to help him work the store after the snow storm hit.

  • @MrTonyCejas Steve Miller Band-Winter Time

  • I'd like to know more about what Sumter was like before I was born.

  • I was 7 years old living on Thomas Drive. We didn't have school for several days from what I remember. I do remember going to school on Saturday at Willow Drive Elementary for make up days.

  • THANK YOU FOR VIEWING.

  • I lived on Wise Drive at that time in the same neighborhood.

  • according to south carolina climatologists this storm is one of the states so-called "storms of the century" making it comparable to Hurricane Hugo. Hugo definitely was worse in terms of devastation but this storm was the only occurrence in recorded were every location in SC (including Hilton Head) received significant snow of at least 4 inches. Two feet of snow in south central SC is more rare than a major hurricane hitting the SC coast

  • Hang In There Dude.Life is what you make it.

  • Wow. I'm only 15.. but this brings back some of my memories for some reason.

It seems like such a simple time back then. I wish I could've lived it. Instead of growing up in this corrupt world today.

  • Thanks for the kind words.Life was sure simple back then.

  • I lived in Pinewood when this occured. I was 2yrs old. I remeber my mom was pregnant with my brother and she and I walked up the dirt driveway to my aunts house. I remember my tricycle covered with snow so that you could only see the top of the handlebars. Cool video. Brings back some geat memories. Thanks fer posting.

  • I was living in Sumter at the time and was 9 years old....what neighborhood was this filmed in?

  • This was at my Fathers house on Jefferson Rd.

  • My wife got stuck in this snowstorm driving with her family from NY to FL. The good people of Manning put them up for several days until the snow melted and they could continue on. Thanks for posting this bulldawg1964.
