@a187killa There were bodies (most of them) who had injection sites on their bodies. Those that did not wish to die (the majority) were held down and injected with the poison.
That's exactly what smoking ice will do to you! Jim Jones was on that raw ice...the most expensive kind. Made him think he was in show business; making movies!
This Jim Jones must be burning in hell. What an evil man , i followed these stories because its hard to believe people fall for this. Now poor rich highly educated people follow occult leaders, that show how far manipulation has gone, so beware of cult leaders.
@Aniah888 oh yes, i know... my comment was in responce to someone elses comment...
when forced to do something at gun point then thats different, thats murder, not suicide, totaly different... jamestown was a murder masacre, with a few suicides... i was refering to more of the 'heaven's gate' crowd, where they all willingly kill themselves, usually cause some guy says hes jesus and a bunch of waterhead retards believe him and let him mary a dozen 12yr olds... sorry for your confusion
I couldn't understand why people were afraid of this scumbag? 909 people against most 20 people , I think they could be able to takeover the bastard and his men.. I believe some people either scared or thought they wil go to paradise. Sad !!
You cannot call it suicide when people were FORCED to drink it... I hate how the victims of Jim Jones are insulted to this day.... It started out as a good thing but ended tragic. How can you blame someone for wanting to believe in something so much...? That is why they inevitably got brainwashed... And what do you do? Either drink the kool-aid or get shot (Again, Jim Jones FORCED the majority of people to drink it with guns)... It is so sad... Parents forced to watch their children die.... RIP.
@emptybusseat Of course it is sad and you are correct it was not suicide it was cold blooded Mass Murder by Jim Jones as he should be remembered. Even though the evil instruments of his crime were agents in his employ. He used a perversion of the Christian Faith as a cover for his hideous crimes. We should show compassion to his surviving kin and former members of his cult. May the souls of his victims Rest in Peace!

It took YEARS to build up to the "deaths" of all those people. It was a slow calculated manipulative process that maifested into something unholy and ungodly, and unfortunately history showes us this over and over again ex: years later with David Koresh, Branch Dividians, etc...People are still vulnerable and still easily manipulated
I have watched several of these clips re: Jim Jones and they all have a common thread..how tragic it all was and is for those who survived and the families of those who did not. My question is, though, is what drives one to join a 'religious' organization like this? What is a person like who would join? Is this a last hope for the unaccepted or a new challenge or confusion about life? Why would one follow a man like Jones, who obviously had psych issues? What must one be like to be so desperate?
@ferrierepc Jones was extremely charismatic. If you joined, you felt like you were literally helping to save humanity itself. Black people liked that a white man had run an integrated church since the early 1950s. Young people liked his far-left social activism. Old people liked his free health care, food, and housing. Religious people liked his faith "healings." There wasn't just one kind of person who joined, although about 70% of the victims of Jonestown were African Americans.
@ferrierepc Also, it wasn't obvious that he had psych issues, he kept that side hidden and only those in his hardcore inner circle got a glimpse of it. The vast majority were working class families (mostly Black) who trusted their charismatic preacher and had been living in his USA communes for years before going to Jonestown.
The other thing to consider is that about 300 victims were kids who had zero say in coming to or staying in Jonestown- 100 or so were born there.
This was actually a CIA project named MK ULTRA. It was later renamed Project Horizion. If you look at Google Earth you will see it is blocked out. Jonestown is a restricted area...but why??
it's stranged that in the original recording no gunshots were heard on the tape how in the hell if the bodies had gun wounds someone is lying well the govt never lies that's for sure
you have to ask urself, what is ur first gut reaction when you fly into a jungle compound that youve never seen before, and see 900 bodies just laid out as if no one even cared
Questionable is how that mass suiced worked: I all docus its been told by the only " few" witnesses, those could escape (one of them a journalist of the newspaper that started the campaign +at least 1 agent ), "before the drink was delivered" ( after the congressman was reported to be killed by Jones) they were all "suddenly surrounded by gunmen", those they did not know where they suddenly came from.. These gunmen obviously survived .
(2) Jones himself appears to me as someone connected with Cocaine gangs such as the FARC or the US supported Cocs government such as in Columbia . Just think about the much money he had. Even more than Waco , an unrevealed story regarding the question the part the gunmen played . When bring it on TV thousand times again just this question is asked ever again
ive been thinking and doing my research and i honestly believe that Jim Jones planned on surviving the mass suicides. I mean, look at it like this. Had everyone been willing to go through with it, that would eventually leave him and his top aids. All they would have to do is survive, leave the compound and then lie about what really happened. The tape that was recorded the next day goes to show that it was clearly made to hide something & leave a lot of confusion, which it has.
Hi Landesco, whatever; anything seems to be strange with the story - cold war? I have found 40 minutes of the original " sound track during the mass murder with just one " brake ( peep) in between, in which he also speaks -but not directly- about those who killed Cm. Ryan, which he told to his people would trigger automatically an attack by allied forces on his compount . If I have time I will cut the material into youtube vid I have already began 1 week ago.
Nope, most of the gunmen died. By their own hand. Because of this, only one person served prison time for conspiracy to commit murder. His name is Larry Layton, and he has since been paroled from prison. He shot several people on the airstrip, but he didn't wound anyone fatally - thought it was a very close call for several that he wounded, meaning their wounds were serious enough to where they nearly died. The conspiracy charge is not an actual charge of murder, though.
I don't think they were nut jobs most of them. I think they really thought they were doing some good and trying to make a better world for themselves. It started out good, but ended badly. If anything, people can be guilty of naivety and ignorance and that is hard to blame people for. And there's denial too - like getting into a bad relationship that seemed all good and then not being able to get out due to wanting to still see the good. Not easy. And then being brainwashed...
@vjwileycat if you can convince anyone to kill themselves, then maybe they dont deserve to exist...
sounds cruel, i know, but , i cant understand how stupid someone would have to be to willingly end their lives like that....
the children and the dogs were 'murdered' thats different and sad... they had no choice... but if someone will kill themself, because someone else tells them to..., then they are 'nutjobs' in my book.
@GeorgeNada1 - He convinced people that they would be attacked and killed, their children stolen from them, and that killing themselves would be a revolution furthering the things they truly believed in. The children died first. When you sincerely feel your life is threatened like that, and your children are already gone.. well brainwashing and fear are clearly very powerful things. They weren't nutjobs. They were people who wanted the world to be a better place and were taken advantage of.
@Somnilocus After the FOIA files were released, it was also found that there was a high probability of everyone being drugged as well. People were held down and injected that didn't want to die. Babies torn from mother's arms. It was murder.
@GeorgeNada1 Oh, they didn't willingly kill themselves. In pictures, have you seen all the syringes? These were for the majority that didn't wish to die. They were held down and injected. Armed guards lining the pavilion, nowhere to go.
Jim Jones followers remind me alot of Republicans. Religious nutjobs who have a hatred of science, logic, and reason. And like Jim Jones, George Dumbya Bush claimed God talked to him, and Republicans believed him.
It said on one of the documentaries I watched that I got from Netflix (and is excellent), that he had one of his nurses do it and his own son said on another docu-drama made for the History Channel, that he couldn't even shoot himself. He had someone else do it.
Jones shot in left temple. Could be suicide, but might not have been. Consistent with suicide, but also consistent with murder! INCONCLUSIVE! His son thinks someone else killed him (probably a close assistant/advisor). Isn't great evidence for it but many believe the person who did it was Annie Moore, who clearly was among the last to die if not the last, and was only other person known to die from gunshot (hers was suicide for sure). Gun was found 20 feet from Jones...
you make no sense. you say a multitude of semi-smart things and I guess hope that everyone thinks what you said was true/correct/fact/believable. but in the end it's just a bunch of opinions you probably heard you're redneck father/uncle/grandpa etc... say throughout the course of your life. lmao, you are just one of the true dumbasses out there. I'm very happy to have met another one. I can't wait to see what you say to this, if you reply.
This goes to show how religion can take over someone's life. While watching a special on this all I thought about was the religious right in the Republican party and their unwillingness to use logic.
You're the one who needs to do your research. The Jim Jones community was ATHEIST when they got to Jonestown. Jones speaks at length against the existance of God over and over again on many tapes created at Jonestown. Their community was self described as "Marxist/lenninist", and "socialist/communist". In the earliest years it was religious, but as time went on Jones and his community totally abandoned religion, had done so completely by 77 when they moved to Jonestown.
Speaking of research, you omitted some important details. Jones asked to be called "Dad" instead of a God and thereby reinforced his role as a father figure. His is on tape, though, mentioning that others may see "God" in him. Also, he got a messiah complex from his mother at an early age. She was convinced he was the messiah when he was a boy, and he grew to share her opinion later on.
Christianity is NOT the worst. IT is BASED ON TRUTH, and LOve. JEsus warned EVERYONE not to follow a "MAN", but to worship in spirit and TRUTH. THis country gives you freedom to be gaye...other countries(mideast)gayes are beheaded, and Christianity is criminal. YOU BETTER SWALLOW THIS TRUTH !
No it doesn't-several states passed the Ban Gay Marriage-based on christian beliefs. It is just one step closer to imprisoning people due to sexual orientation-because a law was created to automatically label gays as abnormal. It's being challenged in the Supreme Court and it is going to cost tax payers plenty. And social unrest. You have the christian church and mormons to thank for this.
And the Christian church has never tortured, beheaded, burned alive, people because of beliving in another religion? Look at history-has plenty of examples. Even Queen Mary prosecuted protestants and burned them alive because they were not Catholic. Christanity has plenty of bloodshed.
This is about the testimony of what religion can do-remember they were Baptists. Religion kills. It started wars. Tortured people. SOme religions hang and behead people just because they are gay. I bet most Evangelicals would LOVE to hang and kill gays-just because they are gay-if the truth be known. Yes-religion kills. Christianity is one of the worst.
You are a LIE ! ISLAM is the worst, go to most of middle east and preach Christianity, you get beheaded or imprisoned. IF you a woman, only 10 years ago, you'd be imprisoned for showing your face IDIOT !
Christianity murder and torture: Let me count the ways: The Holy Crusades-countless thousands died. The Spanish Inquistion and Witchcraft trials-sanctioned by the Holy Church-hundreds of innocent women, men, even CHILDREN-tortured and hung and burned alive. Irish civil war: Catholics vs. Protestants-lasted for centuries-countless died. Just a few goodies: Christianity-murder & terror is thy name.
Religion & Scientology are like the fairy tales Mother Goose & Jack and the Bean stalk: Written to help the frightened little monkey's sleep at night
The belief in one fairy tale over another is completely arbitrary - And depends on which frightening story you heard as a child
In reality, people are simply afraid of the responsibility associated with having an "internal locus of control" - Thus, they invent saviors to hide behind when it gets dark out at night
And of course this one believes that God saved her. And now she is using "God's Saving' to "raise awareness" also known as making money off not working.
Religion around the world is brainwashing people, but only when they commit mass suicide is when it is considered outrageous.
Muere escarado humano loco y fanatico. Paranoico de mierda.
