  • Gone too soon.

  • this song brings tears to my eyes when i hear it,i think of the relationship that i had with my father!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAN MISS U

  • Miss you dad, 6 Aug 1989

  • i thank God for the inspiration he gave to this man and who had the will to finish what he was inspired to do. music such as this is not only meaningful but filled with emotions that lasts beyond a lifetime. this is the music that we are missing out these days. i am 23 and i am sad that the music our generation listens today are filled with nothing more than pseudo sex sounds trashy lyrics.

  • Dan Fogelberg--A true artist and a wonderful human being. I miss him.

  • my dad would have been 84 yesterday

  • RIP Dan. What a terrific song.

  • Simply one of the greatest songs ever. Truly defines the loving relationship of father/son as no other song has or can. Beautiful in every way.

  • I had the pleasure to sit at Red Rocks and watch him preform. His connection to Boulder and specifically Nederland CO was special. I have never seen him preform when he felt he was closer to the universe than here in Colorado. He was truely a great artist and a great man who championed the green movement before it was green. We have lost a great legacy to the leader of his band.

  • Gosh I've got all of his albums, and sadly. I never got to see Dan in concert. I'll regret that for the rest of my life............

  • I am 64 years old and I had younger people in my home after being discharged from the Navy. I will never forget the night one of the group brought in Dan's first album. I felt as if he were my friend from that day on. I was fortunate to watch three live concerts and had tickets to the one he had to cancel. I miss him but I think a man of his caliber must be with God. RMWard

  • Gorgeous song. Gorgeous voice. Poignant lyrics.

  • I am crying as I hear this song. I saw Dan in 1990 and was awed by his beautiful singing and songs. Papa, I don't think I said I love you near enough. To my dad. 8/25/24-4/12/89.

  • ...a thundering , velvet hand...

    what a nice description.

  • I always loved this song ..Rest in Peace Dan

    Rocket

  • For the Risley boys in tribute to their dad.

  • Thank you, Dan! You were a proud product of central Illinois and your music embodied the strong, quiet ethic that represents from whence you came. Rest in Peace!

  • One of the most amazing melodies ever written, Dan had such a rare and special talent

    God Love Dan!!!!

  • Happy Father's Day to all dads! This song is for you!!!

  • i cry when i hear this song ...

  • Tears in my eyes while i sing your song Dan.. I miss my father and love him so much...

  • This guy was so good. We had the good fortune to see him a few years ago and he was very, very good. What a rotten loss.

  • I love my father...but when I heard this song...I love my father more..such a wonderful song...makes me cry...a little.

  • Surely this is an exception to the rule "men should not cry" This song is a masterpiece direct from the heart of a truly good and introspective man.

Merry Christmas Dan....You are in a better place.

  • ..and there was nothing left unsaid when he passed away."

How to do my own father that kind of honour.

  • I wonder what Heaven is like....?

  • Beautiful Man, lyrics and songs. He had heart and a great voice. His songs will live on.

  • After hearing this song so long ago I lost a way to hear it again. I bought every Fogelberg album I could find in doing this I found many songs that were very wonderful. Though I think this is his best song there were many more. It does say a lot about relationships between fathers and sons. It goes thur my mind as well as my heart. Thanks Dan

  • Can you imagine how many times he performed this song? Look into his eyes. I see no sloughing off and giving anything but his best. A true artist. Aside from his songwriting he was an excellent musician.

  • @dave11222 g

that is the ultimate compliment to any great son w rtier,to sing that song for the 5000 time as if the first....beautiful

  • There is no more honest, no more emotionally true song anywhere. We never say everything we have to say to our Dad's. "I love you" isn't enough, "Thank you" isn't enough, but somehow, hopefully, they know, and no one has written a song that expresses this as well as Dan Fogelberg. Thank you.

  • Beautiful... Thank you Dan for sharing your music. This is such a meaningful song to me. It brings back memories of my father. I miss him. I miss you too Dan.

  • this is my favorite song....

  • "One of these days I'll have the answers, To some of the questions in my life And on the day my maker asks me to explain I'll have an answer, one of these days" for Danny from Gordo in Savannah

They say grown men shouldn't cry, but this time I'm certain is the exception.

  • Dan, you gave to me a gift I know I never can repay. Your beautiful music is the best gift I've ever received. Your songs offered me so much comfort and solace during those bittersweet moments in the 80s. You will always be fondly remembered and sadly missed. May you rest in peace.

  • :-(

Another great legend gone too soon.

May your weary soul rest in peace, Dan.

    1951-2007

  • Thanks so much for sharing that beautiful video.

  • Great Video.....Dan will be missed. I wanted to let you know that in stating that Larry Fogelberg was a High School band leader in Peoria is True, He spent the majority of his career as a High School Band leader for the

City of Pekin, Illinois and to the School I attended. My 1976 yearbook indicates Mr. Fogelberg retired after serving a Music instructer and Music Director for 20 years.

  • Relationships between fathers and sons can be complicated. Thanks, Dan, for saying in words and music what many of us find difficult to express.

  • Dan Fogelberg was such a talent--gifted with words and music. RIP DF.

  • Thanks for the song and the explanation.
