@FueledByTyeler a bait caster is about 5 times as accurate as a spinning rod in the hands of an experianced angler . you cant accuratly controle the distance with spinning gear like you can a caster. but i have NEVER had a birdsnest with my spinning gear. also, pitching in high snag areas is not possable with spinning gear due to 'distance' accuracy
@dirtTdude i've never tossed a baitcaster, i know as a rule they're more accurate, but i've had years of avid fishing on a spinning reel and it'd take me forever to get as accurate with the baitcaster. as long as you use superline that has no stretch you can cut the line off mid throw to control the distance. mono will just bounce back, but superline will stop and drop right in the water. mind you, it took me 10 years to get that good.
@FueledByTyeler yeah, its definitely not impossible to control distance accuracy with spinning gear, i totally agree with you 100% i do the same thing with my spinning gear. so if you're hitting coffee cups at 60 feet with your spinning gear, you will be deadly accurate with a caster at 80. i recommend trying one out some day, i think you'll love it.
if theres one major difference between baitcasters and spinners (other than design duh) is that with spinners u can cast very light or weightless lures, but with a baitcaster it seems impossible. the design of the baitcaster doesnt let out free line like spinners, but baitcasters can handle heavier line, more line, and bigger fish.
@lerlo I went with my wife last Friday to a lake near by. All my life I had used a Zebco 33 reel and honestly never "looked into" exactly how it works... lol, My wife wanted an open face reel, I tried when I was about 17ish didn't care for it.. but we got her one. The CLOSED FACE reel I got, is NO WAY A "ZEBCO"... I finally had figured out the drag on it, i was very "P O'D" when I wrote, excuse my ignorance.
FOR ALL THE WANNA BE FISHERMAN BELOW. A BAITCASTER IS DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH HEAVY LINE AND HEAVY LURES. THEY MAKE BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT HANDED BAITCASTING REELS. IF IT FEELS UNBALANCED IN YOUR HAND YOU ARE HOLDING IT LIKE A RETARD.
the real difference between a person that uses a spinning rod and reel and a baitcasting outfit is that the person using the spinning outfit is a FISHERMAN and the person using the baitcasting outfit is a WANKER who got mugged when he went into the tackle shop lol
I should also add that bait casters are built ass backwards for right-handed people. After you cast with your right hand you need to switch the rod to your left before you can start reeling in - not only inconvenient but it can cause you to lose your rod to a fish if a strike happens while you are switching hands. Spinning combos also feel much better balanced - bait-casters feel top heavy while holding them. Bait-casters require heavier weights for casting, spinning can use lighter weights.
Very few left handed baitcasters are stocked in stores and usually only in the more expensive models. About half of the reels online are available in left hand and again usually not in the less expensive reels. I first learned to used a baitcaster in the mid-sixties and probably have forgotten more about fishing than you'll ever know. Judging by the rest of you posts you're just an asshole that enjoys being a troll.
As a kid I mastered a bait caster because that's what my dad & older brother used. My friends always fished with spinning & spin cast & were able to consistently cast farther than me & with lighter weights. I practiced constantly & they never did. I occasionally had backlashes & they never did. I stubbornly stuck with a bait-caster for 2 decades. Finally, I broke down & bought a spinning outfit - my very first cast with it was farther than I ever threw my bait caster & I will never go back
I like to keep a 7 foot Spinning Reel for soft plastic and top water fishing and i like my baitcasters as cranking rods for crankbaits and jerkbaits and spinnerbaits ... then i got my ultralite rod for bream and crappie
check out my channel and see what fish im catching you fucking retard
do i want to change the strength of my line occasionally? yes, can i do this with a baitcaster? no?
can i long cast to the big fish with a baitcaster? no
like i said, baitcasters are for tackle tarts who cant fish but want to look like the jerks in the competitions who are sponsored by ... oh wait .... baitcaster manufacturers
@lukkbox You have got to be the dumbest person with a reply like that. I can do all those things that you cant with a baitcaster, so shut your fucking mouth. And by the way, I own many of both styles of reels.
when he first started going off about the guides I was like "oh no...baitcasting for idiots 101"...and it turned out to be a really interesting point that he made haha
Sure, but the trigger reel seat may be a bit uncomfortable. When casting a spinning reel, the line comes off the reel in loops. The small casting guides will cut into your distance with light weights.
yes. i do and it makes almost no difference either way, other than what the guy in the video states. guide size, but it might also make your rod like 0.001% more prone to braking because both rods are intended for pressure applied to the direction assigned to them (example: spinning rods pull with the guides facing down)
When I am playing a fish with a spinner the rod rests down my forearm but towards my elbow and my hand open index finger hooked in front of the reel and other fingers behind the reel. A very relaxed grip that is soft but responsive. Not so easy to hold a baitcaster in so relaxed a grip without it wanting to twist in your hand.
Wow like really informative NOT all he has said really is the visual differences I dont think there is any difference in leverage of lifting power in fact the spinner is more stable under load as the line is hanging in the guides whereas the baitcaster has the line above the guides so the rod wants to rotate forcing you to grip it harder.
Confucius say..... The leverage advantage is not in lifting, it is in cranking. If the rod is built correctly (spine to guide placement), and the reel/reelseat is low profile(as most are nowdays), there is little or no rotational pull. If your wrist is so limp that the rig is twisting in your hand, try an Acidrod.
I have both and I prefer the feel of a thin tipped spinning rod. I sometimes wonder if bait casters were invented to give the gullible public another choice, It worked on me anyway
@STUPEDAS0 Actually they are more accurate aswell in the hands of someone with multiple casting techniques the baitcaster is more trouble prone as far as line management which cuts into fishing time. To my knowledge there are only a few techniques to baitcasting while spinner's offer almost as many as fly fishing and you can change line "on the fly" by swapping spools, try that with a baitcaster....Just because they are easy to use does not mean they are for people who cannot cast correctly.
@Ih8stupidhumans I use a spinning reel. My brother came over the other day and gave me a baitcaster, told me to try it, and said I wouldn't want to use another reel again. He showed me how to use it, and after 20 minutes on the river, I called to tell him to stick it up his ass. Even throwing into strong wind causes back lashes, which was one of the many backlashes I had, and for what? Retrieval might be better, but casting is much much better on a spinning reel.
@wallpaperkilla Did you use your thumb to feather the reel on cast? Not doing so will almost always cause a backlash, retrieval may be more stable on a baitcaster but that in my eyes is not a good enough pro to make me switch to baitcasting. Besides how can you concentrate on the fish if you gotta make sure the rod doesn't spin upside down on you?
No, the bait caster reel has gearing set up for it's position on top of the rod. The spinning reel is setup to hang below the rod. For example: If you turned the spinning rod upside down you would have to turn the handle in the opposite direction then when it is in it's normal position to retrieve the line.
I disagree, most spinning rods work perfectly with baitcasters. Only thing that is missing, is the finger hook, which I personally don't need anyway. Another issue might be the rod guides. If they are not placed densely enough, the line might touch the rod blank causing wear to both.
i like the fight better on a spinning reel, and i can hit coffee cups at 50-75 feet with my spinning reel
