job 26:10 : the verb used is "חג" (khag) which means circles (around something) as he describes the horizon stretches as a line at the edge of the waters.
proverbs 8:27 : the noun used is "חוג" (khoog) which means a circle, as he describes god drawing the sky as a circle above the depths.
Unfortunately, Isaiah hadn't had Euclidian Solid Geometry--for obvious reasons. Just the best words he had. From an agrarian perspective, it would seem that the earth is flat and the sun rises, and as long as his fields yield crops he's doing alright. If God took the time to explain astronomy to Isaiah... besides, the overall idea of the verse is that God is supreme.
It is possible to be lieve in science and religion. Science attepts to offer answers that are failable, otherwise it isn't science it is law or truth. Religion is a basis of faith. You can't seriously get too worked up on semantics and argue over one specific word in the Bible. The Bible has been translated back and forth from one language to another, and there are even multiple versions in the same language that use different words. Don't get so caught up on one single word, and completely miss the overall message! Besides, the ancient Greeks proved the Earth was round and even devised a way to measure its circumference. Christopher Columbus had nothing to do with that.

@4u250ut "Globe" and "Ball" are synonyms for a sphere. I looked it up on wikipedia and it does not say it is synonymous with "circle". A sphere has all points equal distances from the center in 3 dimensions while a circle has it only in 2 dimensions.

The Bible does not mention about "squares" so by using a word “sphere” means that a spherical figure must have a "globe" shape, not a "cylindrical" with a flat spherical top like Koran tells.

job 26:10 : the verb used is "חג" (khag) which means circles (around something) as he describes the horizon stretches as a line at the edge of the waters.

Unfortunately, Isaiah hadn't had Euclidian Solid Geometry--for obvious reasons. Just the best words he had. Ezekiel 38:3,4--same thing... archaic names for weapons described in verse 4: horses and horsemen, armor, bucklers, shields and swords. God is giving the prophet a word picture of a heavily armed group of soldiers. Ezekiel didn't have "tanks" and "missiles" and "rocket launchers" and "airplanes" in his vocabulary. He did have "armor" and "bows" and "arrows" and "swords."

From an agrarian perspective, it would seem that the earth is flat and the sun rises, and as long as his fields yield crops he's doing alright. If God took the time to explain astronomy to Isaiah... besides, the overall idea of the verse is that God is supreme.

You can't seriously get too worked up on semantics and argue over one specific word in the Bible. The Bible has been translated back and forth from one language to another, and there are even multiple versions in the same language that use different words. Don't get so caught up on one single word, and completely miss the overall message! Besides, the ancient Greeks proved the Earth was round and even devised a way to measure its circumference. Christopher Columbus had nothing to do with that.

@4u250ut "Globe" and "Ball" are synonyms for a sphere. I looked it up on wikipedia and it does not say it is synonymous with "circle". A sphere has all points equal distances from the center in 3 dimensions while a circle has it only in 2 dimensions.

It is saying that it has the property of a sphere that the edges are all the same distance from the center, but it is not saying that it is a sphere. A circle is only in two dimensions. By the way on 90 words I did 5 mistakes including missing a letter which makes 82% properly written text, much higher than average USA student would do. Besides, it's now very well known that we are in 4 dimensions thanks to Albert Einstein's theories of General and Special relativity. However, a sphere is not circular, and the Hebrew text has different words for sphere and circle, and every other time they used circle they meant a cylindrical object, just because you have no understanding of Euclidean Geometry doesn't mean jack shit to us.

@TheBlitMaster I am talking about a figure's geometrical dimensions which has length, height and width. And cylinder has "spheres" and "squares". The Bible does not mention about "squares" so by using a word “sphere” means that a spherical figure must have a "globe" shape, not a "cylindrical" with a flat spherical top like Koran tells.

The formula for volume is V = π r^2 h, similar to the circle's area formula A = π r^2, whereas a sphere's volume is defined as V = 4/3 π r^3. So with simple logic one can easily see that a circle is more similar to a cylinder then a sphere, since the Hebrew text says circle, logic says they meant cylinder.

Besides, a square is just two congruent isosceles right triangles connected by their hypotenuses, and a triangle defines several circles such as the incircle and excircle. So by your definition a cylinder is a series of infinite spheres. Maybe you should go to Khan Academy before you insult your own intelligence even more.

A circle is the conic section attained when a right circular cone is intersected by a plane perpendicular to the axis of the cone. Therefore a circle is a piece of a cylinder right. If you rotate a circle do you want to know what you really get? You get a circle, with it's points in different places.

No matter how you rotate it, you do not get a sphere, you just get a circle defined on different axes. I could easily make the argument using your logic that if you translate a circle across the local Z access you get a cylinder.
