  • Rebirth of the soul.

  • The melancholic pleasure of living.

  • This is ... beautiful.~

  • This movie felt like it lasted much longer than 63 minutes.

  • Pure Genious.

  • @gypsyrose1994 Genius*

  • @bluhammer Oops, lol. XP

  • has anyone else noticed how similar the plot of the movie was to murakami's "On seeing the100% perfect girl one beautiful april morning"?

  • Takaki lost the letter that akari address written on it

  • Thumbs up if you cried while watching the movie

  • saddest movie ever, just undesirable

  • whats the anime called?

  • 5 centimeters per second

    heh!!

  • me and and my best friend live long distance after he moved, we talked allways and we met up. on the second day we were laying on his bed snoozing and i got the courage to kiss him- i was scared of his rejection but he kissed back: he told me he'd been waiting years to do that. he saw i was sad and i said i diddent want it to be a fleeting romance. his mum now enthusiastic for us to see eatchother every month. if i his mum diddent catch us holding hands...it would be this film all over again

  • <3333333333333

  • This really was such a meaningful movie that fantastically reflects the reality of life and love. It doesn't always work out, and you learn to move on, if only because you have to.

  • I cried, so much just watching this. It was so sad...

  • i gotta say makoto shinkai is indeed a genius....he made 5 centimeters per second a masterpiece......and it left a very strong impression in just 3 short episodes this just shows how good he really is...........

  • This is what you call a masterpiece. Only this movie and clannad have made me cry. Everyday when i use my computer i always play this song. Since everyday is stressful day this song calms me down and helps to get all this stuff in my brain just go away. But it also does make me sad and because only thing that comes in my mind is the ending of this video. I bet it must hurt really really bad.

  • I just watched this movie, it made a good impact and for an hour long it was astonishing! Sad end but if you want sad I suggest you watch Clannad and Clannad After story.

  • I could listen to this all day.

  • How do we download the album?

  • At what speed must I live to see you again?

  • As a guy I must confess, this was the 2nd movie I ever cried watching - the first was Grave of the fireflies.

Makoto shinkai is the new miyazaki....beautiful animation, beautiful music....

  • @thatkidfrom1991 LOL same here bro. It was so hard to watch Grave of the Fireflies, I forced myself to sit through it hehe.

  • This disk is the most valuable thing I own in my entire house :')

  • this movie changed me for the better...it made me treasure everything and also taught me some values in life :)

  • 1 person who dislike is heartless i guess.. dont know how to grade a good music

  • ....I cried so much after this film... :/

  • Everytime I listen to this music, teardrops always fall from my eyes. And everytime I watch this movie, my heart breaks. =(

  • This movie is a textbook example of how to set up characters and relationships successfully. And in only an hour...it really achieves more than most movies series do in five hours or more.

  • each time i listen to this gracefull but depressing song i say to myself will i ever find my place in this grotesque world of ours.

  • Omg, I cried so hard at the end of this anime, because I forced myself to hold back the tears while I was watching it.

  • @xxsongwriter4animexx You goddamn crybaby.

What's that? There's tears in my eyes too? Hah you're stupid, I'm just cutting onions. Boy there's sure a lot of onions.

  • @Scrinoverlord xD It's ok.

  • @Scrinoverlord Haha, yeah, roomfuls of 'em...

  • @xxsongwriter4animexx It was one of those movies that takes your breath away during the film and let it all go in the end. I cried in the end thinking "What the hell did I just watch?"

  • @thorahn96 Yep, that's what happened to me.

  • The second half is basically piano version of One More Time.

  • I really want to take this film and make it live action... Mainly for the fact that not everyone enjoys the anime style, and because of that masterpieces like this aren't well known. I know that seems stupid and that it would mess it up. But had I been in control I would make sure it's perfect and true to it.. This is just one of those movies that everyone needs to watch

  • @IBelieveYouOweMePie indeed, although I dont know about the live action, all live action anime films have been nowhere near the anime...if it does get done it better be done faithfully and follow the anime exactly. its a question of keeping the balance and fidning the right recipe. It would be more than fantastic to see it be done right :)

  • @IBelieveYouOweMePie good luck to you. you'll need it

and yeah you have to be careful. put it extra careful to convert anime to live action.

  • this and distant day memories are my favorite ones :)

  • The reason why this movie is so great is becasue when I watched it, I did not think to myself, "Meh, who cares". I cried bitter tears of agony when the train passed by and Akira wasn't there anymore. Beautiful, sad, and greater than most every other piece of cinema ever made.

  • -Cries softly-

  • I first saw this movie when I was in high school. I remember being really upset at the ending, and thinking that no, I can't accept this way of thinking. If you really love something, you should run after it and cling to it always, no matter what. At least that's what I wanted to think.

I can't say I've fully come to terms with it now, but I think I understand it a little better. I wonder what my past self would think of me now. I wonder if I'd hate myself.

  • @yellowmoped I'm confused should I chase after "it" or move on?

  • @r3gie831 That all depends on you. Someone commented on another video of this movie, saying. "Sometimes, we have to realize that there are certain people who are meant to stay in our heart, but not in our lives.", and I don't think they could have come up with anything more perfect to describe this movie. Sadly, this is life. Not every story is a success story in the way people want it to be, but if you take a closer look, you might be able to find another lesson learned. After all,

  • @r3gie831 ... he does smile in the end as he's walking away.

  • ;_; cry forever

  • I was personally inspired by this movie to create a story of my own, about my own personal struggle of keeping in touch with friends that shaped me and made me become who I am. To personally thank them many years later in person for believing in me and helping me ever step of the way. This movie reminds us not to dwell on the past but to keep and treasure every waking moment with our beloved friends and family. This piece in particular pulls at the heartstrings.

  • I've heard this is only in Japanese, or Chinese, or any other foreign language I don't speak. Is this true, or is there an English version aswell?

  • @SatanMadeMe there's an english version. If you go on animefreak dot tv you can find it :)

  • Every time I hear this song I remember how good 5Cm Per Second was and I always get a tear in my eye.

  • it's good to see another side of romance... the painful tragic kind...

there's this quote i found that would fit this anime "the love you cant have feels the strongest, lasts the longest and hurts the most."

  • Comment removed

  • Then when i hear this after watching the movie i dont get why people always say anime series or movies are only for kids

  • @YeicoTheGorila yeah its sad, This is the kind of film that can could and probably has changed that view of many people

  • why did they stop writing to eachother....?

  • @Kenjige3 it was time to move on.

  • @Kenjige3 They fell out of communication since Takade moved.

  • Makoto Shinkai did great by choosing Tenmon !! he is such a fine artist and his music inspire great emotions !

  • All these songs make me happy or whenever im sad it cheers me up. You should listen to these songs when your sad or heartbroken. I always listen to sad songs and think about what i've done to be sad and cry about it. I love all of these songs and i really love this movie its pretty heartbreaken but its amazing as snow :) I Just cant stop repeating these songs over and over again. :D

  • 日本の誇るアニメのひとつだ!

  • this anime is not that good if you already watch another sadder anime like clannad, kanon, etc.. i already watch it, i don't feel any sad at all.. why they this anime so short anyway only around 50 minutes?? it's just too damn short but this kind anime.

  • @NessaJTuNN becuz you don't feel what Takaki Tōno feel

    ="|

I also watch Saikano And think tha's the sadest anime

but after I watch this I change my mind

  • @IdVarious

how can i know how close their relation ship, with 20 minutes time given, atleast make it a bit longer tell their childhood stories and romantic moments.. i know that takaki is the who suffered the most, but if i think the anime again.. i wonder why they didn't call each other, they have cell phone right ?? and why they are trying to confess through letters, why not just use words ?? looks like it's their own fault, for given up contact each other..

  • @NessaJTuNN well this anime didn't focus entirely on Takaki-Akari. maybe some points yes, but some points no.

and why they didn't contact each other? maybe they did after first chapter. they had about 3 years before chapter 2. maybe between chapter 1 and 2 they contacted each other by letters, but it's not working for long time. letters contains only words literally and after couples of months, letters will be feels like bland. and they decided to stop writing each other.

  • @NessaJTuNN

why they didn't calls each other by phone? they have the numbers.

But it's not like they're calling each other in the same town or just 5 blocks away. it could be another province or another island. the phone calls could be very expensive considering that.

and cellphone? it's around 90's in their junior high, only rich people had cellphone back then.

why they didn't confess directly? uhh... maybe they're shy or felt that long distance relationship won't work in a long time.

  • @IdVarious

    Yup it's his fault I agreed ="3

But Chapter 2 say that he's always love her

  • @NessaJTuNN

I think you went into watching this anime with the mind set of "This is not gonna be better than Clannad." Holding something in comparison to another before you watch it is never good if you want enjoyment. Length has nothing to do with good story. The characters were very well fleshed out. If you didn't feel anything I think it's because your attitude going in. If anything I'd say this is actually the perfect length where as Clannad kinda drags on.

  • @Verd254

no i wasn't, i was expecting that this anime can be comparable to another sad anime that i already watched clannad, kanon 2006 and kimi ga nozomu eien.. i was so excited when i saw the trailer of this, the art is so awesome with sad beautiful soundtrack convinced me that it will be a very sad anime. but indeed it's not.. in my opinion anime like this that showed bout relationship should make longer than 60 minutes, i didn't get very hard love connection between the boy and girl..

  • if this anime made it to 90 minutes and probably try to showing their moments when in school, maybe some romantic or funny stuff, it could be better.. in here it looks like the animator only showed like "oh the boy have relationship with this girl and they have last reunion, afterward they don't have a chance to meet each other again and move on" which i considered weak, why not showed more detail how close their relationship is ??

  • @Verd254

that's why anime like clannad, kanon, etc can make people sad coz it make people know how the connection between the characters and make it feels very important.. i don't say that 5 cm per seconds have to be made to many episodes, i am just say that it should make it longer i think around 90 minutes or maybe 120 minutes are enough to make this compelling.. IMO though, some people love it, but for me it fails delivered the story.. soundtrack and animation are great though..

  • @NessaJTuNN

Length does not make something compelling. Period. And besides that, it was compelling.

  • @Verd254

yeah if this anime can make me pleasure, then it's compelling. the fact that it only disappointed me doesn't change my opinion.. i don't say that it had to be super long and making it tens episodes or something, i just said for a drama animated movie, 55 minutes is not enough.. at least they made it 90 minutes or something.. however you like it though, we have different opinion^^..

  • @NessaJTuNN

Of course. It's all subjective in the end. I'm just saying length does not mean anything in regards to how good or compelling something is. Voices of a Distant Star for example is only 25 minutes and yet it's one of the most compelling anime you can watch. You can have your opinion and I respect that, but length simply has nothing to do with it.

  • @Verd254 Agree with 100% about Voices. It's definitely one of the top 10 stories told in anime.

  • @Lionwolf0777

Personally I liked Place Promised and 5cm Per Sec more, but Voices just has a special charm that neither of the other two have. The only thing I didn't like was how the whole predicament they were in was forced. Any decent couple would have said their goodbyes before such a massive distance came between them. Anyway, yeah. In terms of how compelling it was. Easily a top 10.

  • @Verd254 Ya true true. Asian stories can tend toward the tragic but when you begin to understand their cultural complexities (like all countries) things begin to make sense. I'm a romantic though and hate the tragic endings but there are those stories that reflect some of the reality of life. Some are really good too.

  • My dad watched this, and he ussually doesnt like anime, and he told me to watch it and i did and i'm like uh..dad..this is anime..and hes like oh crud oh well its awesome lol

  • I watched this movie 3 days ago and my heart feels heavy still. I am absolutely touched by this movie like most of you, because it relates a lot to almost everyone. Remembering your first love and how sweet and innocent we were. Even if it doesn't work out, Makoto Shikai shows us the beauty of being able to move on despite holding such sweet memories. I am also greatly touched by this music. Anoter thing. I am absoluetely terrified of watching this again! My cry again..

  • Man... this song really brings back some sad memorys back haha.

Still love it though, any song that can hit you emotionally postively or negitively is worth hearing.

    thanks for the post.

  • @rustyburger lol yeah it does

  • Im a guy who listens to nothing bu rap such as Cam'ron, Jay-Z. Eminem, Gucci, Wayne, etc. but this whole soundtrack does something hip-hop can NEVER do.

Create a mood so beautiful and make it seem like the season just changed to winter.

The movie was also amazing. The drawing were fantastic and the story was sad but it shows the real world. Nothing is guaranteed.

  • I once heard that what makes anime so beautiful and moving is because the Japanese are better at understanding the spirit of things.

  • This is so sweet..

  • Perfectness in all its excellence~! This is a must-watch movie for everyone!

Simple, but beautifully rendered. Backgrounds were absolutely stunning and combined with TENMON's musical genius it makes the scenery really come alive!

    Rated 11/10

  • Who can resist crying for such a beautiful masterpiece, which creates and represents our own lives. With the real feelings and the right scenario, no one can resist. "5 Centimeters per second" or "Byōsoku Go Senchimētoru" is the movie, which is filled with sadness and happiness at the same time. It's perfect.

  • this was such a good anime, watch it 2 years ago and now again. love it...

  • The best theme in the entire movie

  • T_T

  • This anime was truly the most amazing movie I've watched, and one of the only anime that has made me cry. For something to be able to reach out and affect someone so strongly, even if they've never experienced it, is truly amazing.

  • This is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen in my life and the music was a big part of that. Just hearing this song brings to mind all the moving moments of that movie and can nearly bring me to tears all over again. One of the best OSTs in anime history.

  • Excellence. Pure excellence. This was the first movie to ever make me shed a genuine tear, and I'll never forget its heart wrenching ending. Or the beautiful moments leading up to it.

  • not just the movie but the songs.. each one tells it's own story and each gives it's own lessons to those who listen. Just like I say, each song is like each day, there all a new experience and if one wishes to live life to the full, then they should treat the day not like just another but like a completely new experience.

  • this movie has taught me alot of things...about life.

  • thank u 4 uploading this :)

  • I'm another guy that loved this film. It's still the best and most beautiful illustration. It's much better than the hollywood crap in illustrating that not everything has a happy ending, not everything works out for the best, but we make do with what we get. We go on living despite what the world throws at us, we adapt and change.

And like the cherry blossoms implied in the title, we can drift apart as time passes.

Makoto Shinkai has a real eye for beauty, you can see it in all his creations.

  • *Best and most beautifully illustrated anime I've seen.

  • You put that so beautifully that I wanted to cry, haha.

    Well said. :3

  • Thank you! :p

  • @Aurelian87 I'm also another guy that loved this film. In fact, I actually cried in the end. D: Amazing movie. :)

  • @Aurelian87 omg, your comment made me cry, it's true, things don't go the way you want it to be sometimes.

  • @Aurelian87 I disagree with you, there have been lots of movies made in Hollywood that were also amazing

  • @Aurelian87 Agreed completely. American animations (and most movies) make a lot of people grow up believing that everything will work out extremely well on its own, which is a dangerous lesson IMO.

  • the songs tenmon writes are amazing! they are full of emotions!

  • there should be a sequel.

But if there was it would never live up to the original. That what makes it soo great.

  • this truly is a very well written movie..

i wonder if its from a real story o.O?

everythin about is so... beautiful and perfect

more ppl should know about this...

it's a nice break from all the hollyhood stuff we've been gettin these days.

  • This movie and the creator are to beautiful to be talked about or compared to humans or anything we created. The only things that rival this in beauty are the snow, water, wind and stars, and even to compared to this they seem dull. This is the true beauty that people who laugh at anime miss, the beauty that can't be described in a book, a picture, a play, a movie, but only in a anime. This is the only real meaning of beauty.

  • @GodlyKitsune i love you

  • this movie and songs bring out the memory of my 1st and 2nd boyfriend. even if we didnt last long, every christmas i remeber my 2nd and 3rd bf's the most, and how everything just ended but how every minute of the relationship was great. this is honestly the best movie i have ever seen. i wish 2 get the soundtrack and movie dvd for my b-day. theres nothing else i want. may the lord bless whoever did this. the most wonderful story in anime history.

  • I feel just like him

  • This movie is, to put it plainly, amazing. I cannot think of any word through all of the English Language to flat out describe 5CMPS. It is the most single indescribable thing in the world, and I find its animation, story, plot, and music, to be beautiful beyond description.

  • The film is so sad. It reminds me of how much we don't always get what we want and our friendships may never last forever T_T

  • The flim made me remenber my frist friend. I was so young I thought I imagined him somehow because our friendship was like a dream.. So I thought it was just me... in the end it hurt knowing he was real to begin with...

  • I think that one reason why this Anime is so beautiful, is that it takes a simple, unrecognized, realistic part of life and makes us see how important these little things can become.

  • No, the anime is interresting because it shows us something that doesn't exists (anymore) ==> its true love not just fu**ing around..

  • I totally agree.

  • Makoto shinkais Animes r, 4 me, so bbeautiful ...

    it simply touched me :D

  • The movie is actually themost amazing thing I've ever seen.

Not kidding, I actually prefer it over those hard core action anime.

And the soundtrack is beautiful :D

  • Same here =D i love the movie and the soundtracks are awesome<33

  • anybody know where i can find the sheet music for this? i found a bunch of other songs from the movie but i cant find this one :(

  • I guess you will have to transpose it. Or you could try and learn it by ear ;) that's what i did so that I could play it on my Viola. I'm not very good at transposing but if I get the time, I could do it for you.

  • The movie was SO beautiful! It just made me appreciate the beautiful things in life more. It was really sad and it made me cry but i was smiling at the same time as well :P anyway, thank you niulicious :)

  • somber

  • very soothing. nice.

  • so relaxing....

  • Wow how i would love to be able to play this myself :D !!

  • Aaaahhhhh........ very relaxing.. ty :)

  • its good to know that there's still someone out there..

    who feel how u feel..

not everyone know how to appreciate these movie/ost... love it!

  • only those who's felt the grace of love.. and lost it, can trully understand this movie.. or shall i say thought.

  • All too true.

  • the film and music together sure brought nostalgia

  • this movie is beautiful

i recomend to all if you cant find it ill linked them all in a play list you can all use enjoy =]

  • dude i wish i had an iPhone so instead of downloading the songs i could just go on youtube and listen to it

  • i want to buy the CD so bad Dx but its sold out everywhere i look

  • I've been looking for sheet music for this track for ages...but can't find it :(

did they ever release a piano book?

  • Your best bet is to learn the song by ear, if you can set aside the time to do so.

  • *sniffle*

  • ummmmmm....just wondering. where do you get the cd?

  • I believe the CD comes with the limited edition of the movie itself .=]

more like I can blame the movie and the music for being so incredible. true beauty can touch both genders. <3

  • I love it that everyone (guys and girls) love this movie!! One of my guy friends was like you gotta see this movie britt and i was like ok... I gotta see if my boyfriend will watch it with me some time if I can ever find in a store.... :'( <-- btw I'm a girl but you probably figured that out :D
