Jim didn't go into the light. The person who is Sam went into the light and while his body was still sortof alive. Jim stepped into it. It took a long time for Melinda to convince Sam (or Jim) that he was Jim. When he finally remembered who he was and looked into a mirror, he yelled. Poor Jim!!! lol.
