  • What Kind of horns do metrolinks use?

  • They mostly use "P2"s but sometimes you can find K5LAs mixed in as part of leased sets or maybe on a engine (if you're very lucky).

  • West bound from where fool? gotta name?

  • I love the bell on the Metrolink trains, especially on the cab car. But I never really did care too much for the horns...they're a little too high pitched and kind of annoying. I like the horns on Amtrak locomotives better. I'm not sure what kind of horns Amtrak uses though!

  • The Metrolink bells do have a certain sound to them that makes them sound different. The horns are sometimes dirty, I've heard that they aren't cleaned all the time, leaving them high pitched. The horn that Amtrak is nice, some Metrolink trains actually have them installed, but they don't always use them! The horn that Amtrak uses is a K5LA. Thank you for your comment!

  • *I meant to say the horn that Amtrak uses is nice*

  • Yeah, I knew it was a typo. :)

Thanks for the info! I'm going to see if I can download a .WAV recording of a K5LA horn now! I have a really nice video from the locomotive cab on an Amtrak train in San Diego. But I have it burned on a cd somewhere...don't feel like digging it up right now. lol

  • No problem. :) Did you ever have a time to download that .wav file? How did you get a cab view on an Amtrak? That must've been awesome!

  • I think Metrolink should have louder horns than that because they're not loud enough.

  • That's a good suggestion. I see two arguments for this though. For: People have their windows up and can't hear the train coming (even though there are crossing gates/lights). Against: A lot of the homes along these lines are 50+ years old, they absorb less noise than newer houses. We'll see when Metrolink upgrades their engines.

  • The Horn Gets an A-

  • Thanks! I actually like this horn too! It has a little more power than some of the others. It must have been cleaned recently before the video was made.

  • Bonjour! Merci pour les commentaires! Oui, la "twooooooo" est superbe! When I filmed this, it wasn't that hot...but still hot! Yesterday was a combination-day...one earthquake and 107 F! Merci en avant!

  • Hello Defkungton, did earthquake happened

    frequently by there ???!

  • Hahaha! We always have earthquakes, but they can be hard to notice sometimes! The last one I felt was two weeks ago...it was a "rolling earthquake".

  • "Rolling earthquake" what is it ?.. a jazz band ? :D

  • Ja, it plays a softer tune than the other type of earthquake. They are a "rock" and "ROLL" band. ;D

  • can u get an over view of the crossing for me (gates going down and going back up) btw thoes are safetran hybrid bells and Safetran has discontinued production of the bell so nice find thanks

  • Thank You TrainmanKight! I will put up an overview video when I have a chance. I actually did not know what kind of bells those were...but I did notice that they make a different sound than other bells I have heard. They were a nice find, thanks for letting me know! :)
