Vanilla hacks use the materials given to them by Super Mario World, with no changes. Chocolate hacks are where people add all kinds of things, like enemies from other Mario games, custom drawn things, and newly designed mechanics.

@solborimm chocolate means just about everything from the background or the character himself is changed and vanilla is where nothing is changed and its like a normal looking mario game. Roacow explains it better in a video of his before this.

The bosses take many more hits unless you shoot them with a fireball. Iggy gets knocked off in 3 fireballs or like 10 jumps. Morton dies in about 5-7 jumps (I forget the number but it's more than 3) or if you hit him with a fireball he becomes normal it seems.

So yeah, fireflowers seem to cause the bosses to revert to normal.
