No words to express my appreciation for her and her poetry. (I have known her poetry since 1972-73 when Urdu daily ,Hurriyyat, Karachi, published her poem "The Wasteland" with her PHOTO !)Some other time, there may be more comments.
In this ghazal here, she has omited a couplet, understandably in anticipation of the generous "reaction" of the audience :
Here it is:
ABB BHI, BARSAT KI RAATON MEIN, BADAN, TOOT,TA HAY
JAAG UTH-TI HEIN, AJAB, KHWAHIShEIN ANGRA'AAI KI !
This poem written in 70s, Parveen Shakir born in Nov 1952, Died in Dec 1994 in a car accident. Married with Dr. Naseer Ali (later divorced) and survived by her son named Syed Murad Ali. An extremely highly qualified person and fantastic poet with woman touch.
Her unique honor was that when she appeared in the Central Superior Services Examination in 1982 there was a question on her poetry in the Urdu examination.
The reference to central superior services reminds me one of her poems in which she refers to an intimidating conversation with her top boss who advises her that without closing one's ears and eyes, no one can become federal secretary, and even recited the example of one or two "Sar Katay Afsar".
She says, but, I drove back home thinking that these people cannot understand that this foolish girl is happy as a local poet !
This is Ghazal is one of my favs, Jimmy, thanks for the upload. I love all her work. Parveen Shakir will always be missed. What an untimely departure!
