  • is this kcbs or wcbs

  • I didn't know that CBS 2 had a newscasts at noon in 2002.

When did CBS 2 acquired KCAL 9, cause KCAL 9 now has one if its newscasts at noon.

  • If you're talking about KCAL 9, then the CBS 2 you're referring to is KCBS-TV Los Angeles.

This is WCBS-TV New York, which took the News in Focus music in 2003 the same day KCBS dumped it.

  • Wasn't late January 2003 they made the switch to the set/gfx and theme?

  • Oh, this promo reminds me of the KYW 3 promos of that time with the fake/virtual sets, with those fake flat panels in the first 5 seconds of the clip.

  • Ugh. I think the biggest tragedy is how they slowly destroyed one of the best-ever news presentation packages over the course of three years. The theme is there but the other really cool elements, such as the great animation, are long gone.

  • You mean the one's that were used from 2000-2001. I think they dumbed down the action shortly after 9/11 occured, because it did not want to unglorify a city that was overcomed to the terrorist attacks. But the cool elements from 2000-2001 were bold and the best.

  • While they did tone down the package a lot after 9/11, the dismantling started long before then - specifically when they went from News 2 to the CBS 2 Information Network. And it got worse from there - when they went into the new studio they didn't bother with a real open, which I thought was a step backwards - and this was before the post-9/11 change in tone.

  • I think that happened about 3-4 weeks before the attacks occured.

  • I think the fault lied around management changes.I think for a couple of years they had huge management changes. Joel Cheatwood had a lot to do with the packaging before he was kicked out by 2002. And also a new GM and a new ND came along after he got the boot from West 57th. (I think DIane Doctor came in that summer of '02 and that GM dude came along at that same time.)

  • That set was also used by CBS Sports during that time and WCBS used the newsroom when CBS Sports used that set during its sports coverage.

  • That's right. About a week later, they moved to a seperate set and dropped the Grandeur theme in 2003 in favor of News in Focus. The set would look a bit different as well.

  • It was better known as /WCBS - Grand/ - don't believe half the crap the NMSA guy calls his themes on his website.

  • I remember Bill Ratner back as the KRON Announcer way back in 1993 before he moved to KABC in LA in 1996

  • He did WCBS too from 2001-2006, but now he V/O's for WNBC since 2008.
