I love Bill, but this (beautiful) analogy just fails. Although we armed Iraq, their possession of those weapons wasn't the reason given for going into the Gulf War. The sheep-herder didn't just pick up the gun, he picked it up and shot his neighbor, then took members of Jack's family hostage.
Even if we knew, when selling the weapons, how they'd be used (which we probably did—if we didn't, we should've), although that's shitty, it's just not the same as shooting because they picked up the gun.

I always assumed Bill was describing an actual scene from Shane in this bit. After all these years I finally got around to watching Shane the other day. This scene doesn't exist, or anything even close to it. Damn it, Bill. Still a great bit, though. =)
