  • this song makes me want to get up and dance.. love this one. one of my fav's

  • blecchhhh.... I can only hope this made some money for the Fine Young Cannibals. It sounds more '80s cliche-style than the original

  • they really made her voice to fast.. It was way off... she should have just sang it and not digitally enhanced it.

  • Great Cover, Dolly!

  • "Dolly's voice is a lot better than the other dude's so the lack of creativity is saved by the superior execution if you ask me" I love Dolly but NO WAY! she totally lacks his emotion...and you can not say he doesnt have one of the greatest voices in music..

  • Dolly Parton is simply amazing.

  • I am no country music fan but I LOVE Dolly! Great version.

  • She did GRRRRRRRRRRREAT!!!! I like this version the bestest! :D

  • Dolly needs to stick with country music.

  • Hymns

  • Sorry but FYC does this better than Miss pairton.

  • @Milfchaser1 you say what you say but we country people know why Dolly is the queen she can do a cover of any song in any music group and make the best version ever I love you Dolly! ( Hailey age 11 )

  • @Milfchaser1 Agreed.

  • Hahahahahahahahahahaha! The corn factor here is off the charts, and I love that.

  • Comment removed

  • No way!!! This is too much. LOL... I love you Dolly no matter what crazy song you are gonna cover next. Maybe you can drive Eminem crazy with one of his song! How about a whole album of rap music done in country style!!! Hee, hee...I like to hear that gets blasted from a pimped out car sound system going down the street in Southeast Central L.A.

  • Not a song for most to do, never mind Dolly. I don't have enough thumbs to put down for this one. A stinker . . . plus.

  • Who cares about her age? She freakin' rocked it!

  • This is awesome! Love Dolly!!! :D

  • this is just wrong in so many ways.

  • Dolly must think that since she has surgery to look young it makes her young because this song is so inappropriate for a woman her age, period.

  • @cj7849 You show your age when you say that. Like she should be dressed in a sack dress and singing hems. What about Tina Turner Steamy Windows. Age discrimination. That's sad. We all dream about all things of all ages. Nothing wrong with that in my book. Im 55 but I still feel pretty as if I were 20 and I still like to go out and dance, and dress up pretty. You must be very young and unwise to make such a statement.

  • @theart1rm & @cj7849

It's hymns! A hem is something at the end of your pants or your dress. ;)

  • @sixthcrusifix You're right I did not spell it right, but that kind of hem is actually heam. It was late and I was tired. So wrong spelling no big deal. Haven't been to church in a while either or I would have known how to spell it.

  • @theart1rm

Heam? Never heard of a heam, I'm pretty sure it's spelled with just an "E" but it might differ depending on what country you're from (American English vs English English etc.)

  • This is better than the original. Dolly is great.

  • @susanstoffel I totally agree there

  • I had no idea what he was saying.

  • This is the first time I understood the lyrics to this song!!!

  • Is Dolly trying to be Johnny Cash with these covers?

  • I almost hate to say this...but I'm digging this cover. Even those faux power chords.

  • You have got to be kidding me Dolly. What a joke. Oh my God!

  • To all the haters saying Dolly shouldn't have done this song, think about it this way.... if she had done this song back in the 80's during the time 9 to 5 was out before Fine Young Cannibals ever got their hands on it this would be another huge smash hit that Dolly would be famous for. She took this song and made it her own in her own special style. And for those who wonder why she even listened to this song in the first place.... well great artists listen to all kinds of music.

  • She is known for her distinctive soprano, sometimes bawdy humor, flamboyant dress sense and voluptuous figure.

  • what ...the...hell

  • omg so bad.... im going to cut my ears off.

  • Dolly loves rock - n -roll that is a good thing, she has done some great covers, for example listen to Shine by collective soul, don't be close minded, it's a gift, dont a lot of you like a variety of music, so just enjoy, we wont have the lovely Dolly for ever. What a warm and careing soul, music is a cure for what ever ails you, can you think of a better docter, i cain't. Dolly i truely love you, keep on as long as you can.

  • I can't believe she even listened to this stupid song

  • love love dolly parton

  • I would rather have Dolly perform than not all you Dolly haters. She is part of the wonderful diversity of music performers. Find what you like and listen to it!

  • I agre. Stop bitching on youtube

  • Am I crazy , or is this a really good cover?

  • country music sux! >:( But otherwise OK cover...

  • wtf

  • Uhm.... wow.

That was definitely a "WTF??" moment.

  • Do you know in which Dolly Parton's album I can find this song? Thank you.

  • @Geminazzo READ THE DESCRIPTION.

The album that this song is on was mentioned in my description. It is right below the video.

  • @sixthcrusifix Ok, "Backwoods Barbie", thanks

  • Do you know in which album I can find this song?

  • @MrOogdaboogda We're*

  • @MrOogdaboogda I pointed out a hilariously embarrassing spelling mistake. Who's wound up? You're the one with a lengthy "retort."

  • @MrOogdaboogda You know what I think sucks? Idiots who really can't spell a whole lot of words.

  • shit cover

  • if she left her hair and her make-up on after the show, i'd hit it....sometimes her voice is a bit annoying, but there's a strange passion i can't put my finger or my ear on....makes me want to listen, do her, and then knock her out....then wake her up ,and do her again...and again...and again...and again....hahahahahahaha!!!!!!

  • I hate country but i love this!! nothing will beat the original though =D

  • @JeanetteLeAnne I am starting to appreciate a lot more country than I used to. And Dolly Parton just has a great voice to begin with. You know what I think it is? A lot more country artists are being played on top 40 radio, so it might be having an effect.

  • @OnePeoplesProjecttv ahhhh well i didnt mean that offensively to anyone, there are some country songs that have more of a rock edge to them that are quite impressive, but i just dont like country..at all haha =/ and i agree Dolly Parton does have a great voice, its quite unique too! But i cant imgagine me listening to any of her other songs =/ haha

  • I like it.

  • Funny thing is, I was listening to this on the radio, yesterday and thinking about how this would make a good country song, but I don't think is a very good country version of the song, too over produced, was hoping for something more stripped down, though I love Dolly Parton, she can do better. :)

    God Bless ~Amy

  • at first i thought this was just plain odd - but it actually works.

  • Dolly is pretty hot GILF material but I still prefer the Cannibal's version because I heard it first and any covers aren't the same.

  • Yeah, like I'm just gonna let you post a comment on my video that contains those phrases ...

  • ,,,i think she looks great for a 65 year old...and she stays in shape w/ diet and exrercise...!

  • nice bolly's

  • I usually don't like Country songs OR remakes, but this is pretty well done. :) I Like it.

  • I prefer this version to the original. Dolly is an icon!

  • How can u say shes an icon, to who? if ur refering to girls then not rly have u seen her? 50% plastic

  • @Erreman2000

she is an icon that little girls growing up in poverty can rise to to be world-famopus stars! so what if she's had plastic surgery, what the hell business is that of yours? why bother making hateful comments?

  • @Kieran195 Its not hateful its a fact. And its no business of mine but if girls would see her and think ye tahts how u get famous wouldnt they all get plastic surgery? Having such shows that u need surgery to be beutiful and that message is wrong

  • Girls look at Dolly and think they can become famous if they have a voice like that. Just listen to her. It is wrong to send the message that you need surgery to be beautiful and Dolly has said that many times. Dolly was beautiful in her younger pre-surgery days, she's just trying to stay young.

  • Comment removed

  • @Erreman2000 Ummm she is an icon, yeah she's plastic, but she is absolutely a country music icon. :)

  • Nice Version. :)

  • Love DOLLY!!

  • i heard this last night in cracker barrel love it

  • To cover a Roland Gift song you need to be either stunningly original, or mind-numbingly stupid.

  • totally agree, she should know better.

superb song even the music has been copied.

    perhaps no copyright?

  • I'm sure that Dolly Parton paid the original copyright holder royalties or got permission to do the song. Do you think artists just cover whatever song they want without caring who has the rights? Okay, maybe if you're The Verve but most artists respect copyrights.

  • @Jan9902 duhh

  • que?

  • @Jan9902 , Dolly always gets the songwriters approval and their okay on the final product. She's a classy artist. Give her credit she deserves.

  • Ok well first of all Roland Gift really isn't that special nor is he remotely popular anymore. He was never any kind of legend or superstar so the unnecessary praise for him really isn't impressing me much; they're kind of one-hit-wonders. The band hasn't even been around for almost twenty years.

  • A "cookie cutter cover"? Have you even HEARD the original?

  • Yes, I have. Do you know what the phrase cookie cutter cover means?

  • i hate country but who doesnt love dolly?! awesome cover!

  • 說騷會被罵 應該說是嫵媚版

  • I love this!!!! Dolly is unstoppable!!!!!!

  • This is bewildering.

  • are the fine young cannibals actual cannibals?

  • No they only eat Crane Flies.

  • well I offered the lead singer my meat and he declined. so i'm not sure!

  • @hannakittybanana Well, they were young when they started and my sister thought Roland Gift was fine, so ya never know.

  • The Queen of Everything!!!

  • This was never going to be better than the original, but it's a fun little cover and I can't get enough of it. Thumbs up.

  • I gotta agree with gk250 :) I love the original version but I love the country/rockish sound of this plus, of course, the fabulous voice of Dolly Parton. How can you not love Dolly? lol

  • I kike both versions, one is not better than the other, just different, They are both very good.....

  • no one asked sixthcrusifix, so the original is always better in all cases.

  • I don't know exactly what you are trying to say with that comment . . . O.o

  • @sublimeade

false. there are many covers that are better than the original. case in point: Jeff Buckley's cover of "Hallelujah" is far superior to Leonard Cohen's original version.

  • not herd original version..can it poss b as good lol

  • original is better.....but thats my opinion

  • oh yeah. the original is way better.

  • God, how I love this version of the song. It´s so....Dolly...just...sweet^^

  • I love it when she sings this song I listened to it on the backwoods barbie CD

  • BahjatT, I really don't know what your problem is just because American's call something a different name than you do doesn't make it wrong, peolpe from britian call fries chips but we don't make a big deal about that side-walk and pavement are the same thing and believe it or not but people here actually do say both pavement and side-walk a side-walk is a term used for pavement ont he side of the road that peole can walk on without getting run over. just thought I'd educate you

  • You r right! have an english friend. straightend her ass out. they have .. she wouod " bath" not Bathe and go to hospital...so much for the "correct " English. Black top, tar or pavement..its a road..period. Elevator -lift, closet- cupboard. Lift schmift, cupboard, schumboard..gimme a fucing break!

  • It doesn't seem to go that far outside the original FYC box, but the folksy stuff does breathe a bit of new life into what was, and still is, a supremely catchy pop tune. If nothing else, I'll credit her taste in choosing a good song to cover.

Incidentally, I don't understand why purists are even interested in being part of a conversation about a remake. By definition, the cover will *clearly* suck and they will be dissatisfied. Unless they just wanna get off on being snobs. Whatever.

  • What are you, American Psycho?

  • I beg your pardon? I don't follow.

  • so that's what idiots think.

  • How stupid. I suppose you feel the same way about Canadians and Australians too, right? Every culture has it's own dialect and way of doing things. English is a gross bastardization of Greek, German, French, Latin and a few other old languages anyway.

Just because our colloquialisms and various locutions are different than yours doesn't mean they're wrong. How could you even write that and expect to be agreed with?

  • @sixthcrusifix

English is a bastardisation of those languages and others but it has come to be a language in its own right and the English we speak is arguably the 'correct' one (not that I want to place any higher value on ours than on the language spoken by others in the Anglosphere) and everywhere else they speak it differently- including Wales, Scotland and Ireland not just the US, Canada, South Africa etc

  • oh, you're so funny.

  • sounds good to me..

    shows great taste.

i don't think she did it as a single...

dolly likes to mix it up..

i'm a rock drummer and i enjoy dollys work...

    strange but true.

  • Telika Yparxei Zoi!!

  • I disagree. This is a good cover, but the original is still way better. theres not enough umph in this one. to mousy, but cute.

  • I've heard alot WORSE covers. It's just a catchy tune! I kinda like it(althogh the end IS a bit much.

  • would sound better if she sprinkled some chips n peas on it

  • gr8, I like this version!

  • I LOVE DOLLY PARTON ,THE BEST SONG.

  • Unbelievable song I cant stop listening to it! And I just found the ringtone at DownloadEveryTone. com the quality is awesome if anyone wants to get it ....

  • i love dolly- she's the reigning queen of country. her recent covers of "shine" and "stairway to Heaven" were awesome, but this just doesn't work.

i think it's the over;y slick, nu-nashville production. she should have stuck with the rootsy, bluegrass sound she was on a roll with.

a minor misstep, but i'm sure she'll come back with a billion more gems in the years to come.

  • Disagree. This is a great cover. Certainly her country-down @ the end.

  • it starts out pretty cool, but it goes to hell by the end.

Also, I support the faction that believes this song and the original are very different.

  • yes it is a cover... but as you can tell... it's a COMPLETELY different song and really should not be compared with the other song... admittedly the other song is MUCH better than this... but if the other song never existed... this would be a MEGA HIT!!!

  • Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's not a COMPLETELY different song. She's taken serious liberties with the original verses and of course she countrified it, but the chorus is nearly identical, multiple motifs and riffs are purposefully recreated, and the melody is pretty much the same.

It's a fun cover, but essentially we're talking the same song.

  • I agree with Zach, it's a pretty close reading of the original. If you want to see Dolly take a song and take it into a totally different direction from the original, look up Dolly's version of Collective Soul's "Shine".

  • fine young canniballs rocks

  • i think this version is very good. I mean the original is still the best, but this puts a different kind of twang on it. i think its cute too.

  • you're an idiot.

  • You're a fucking moron.

  • The more I listen the worse it gets. Country can be a great sound, but there is a time and a place...and this isn't it. Those violins in the background are inane and Dolly's pronunciation of 'I'm obseyased' - hauntingly delivered by Roland Gift in the original - is absurd...tho worth another listen just for that!...lol.

  • Dolly is amazing, but whoever advised her to cover this was somewhat misguided. Hope Roland has been paid handsomely for her destruction of an all-time classic.

  • I hope Dolly never sleeps at night for ruining a phenominal song

  • Not a good choice for Dolly. Sounds like the original with Mickey Mouse singing. She needs to slow down with the plastic surgery too....come on Dolly...I love ya but dont get the plastic fish look..its really awful.

  • DOLLY IS AMAZING. this version is SOOOOO MUCH better than the original!

  • this song sucks

    i hate the cover

    im feeling negative right now

    SUCK

  • FantastinC "Fine Young Cannibals Cover"

    :D:D:D ;)

    EXtRA!!!

    BraVo!!!

    :D:D:D ;)

  • Can't help but get pumped by Dolly! Great!

  • she sounds like a 12 year old and an 80 year old singing at the same time, just awful.

  • Very well said.

  • Not my type of voice, i prefer the original

  • Love it! I heard the song was making radio....awesome

  • dolly is #35 on the Adult Contemporary Radio charts with "drives me crazy" call your local stations and request this song now!!! lets give dolly another number #1 hit!

  • Yeah! She definitely needs a comeback! Her past few singles didn't chart as well as they should have.

  • same exact song but .....completely different feeling, I just think it's so interesting when artist's can make a song theirs

  • Its her last tour this year :( and i really wanna go see her x

  • Dolly is NOT planning on ending her touring! She has killed those dumb rumors over and over again.

I saw her a few months ago and she was quite amazing.. it's worth getting to a show :)

  • She is the best of the contry music!!! She grive me crazy! :D :D :D

  • I am quite shocked that this is actually a good cover. I was expecting it to suck so it really exceeded my expactations. Dolly has still got it and she has put her own unique twist on it love it

  • a great song done great by a great artist.

  • are we listening to the same song?

  • good on her! I prefer fyc chanting it but enjoyed listening to this

  • Not really her song but still my favourite female singer and female in general. x

  • Dolly Parton could sing the phonebook and she's sound good!!!!!!

  • Dolly has written thousands of songs and has a more impressive career and catalog than just about any other artist. So, if anyone deserves to have fun with covers and do whatever the hell she wishes, it's her. I love how suddenly everyone acts as though this already corny song had so much soul before (not saying that I didn't like it). At least Dolly wasn't a one-hit-wonder. I understand if you don't like it, but we're kind of comparing apples and oranges here.

  • Dolly Parton Rocks the World. She is the Queen of Everything!

  • Couldn't have said it any better.

  • sounds as if she has inhaled helium

  • @ least u can understand wat she's sayin!!!

  • hahahahaha, I looooove YouTube, so much passion and anger, hahahahaaaaaaaa

you drive me crazy, keep going guys and girls!

    :)

  • This version sucks.. Original is the best!

  • Why does this fuck insist to sing such a retarded woman as Britney Spears?

  • What does that even mean??

  • To Vickyefisher

    you're fucking retarded

As if being a rap artist automatically downgrades me to being some syntax raping retard.. This is absolute garbage.. if the original track had never been concieved, and this song was still produced, it would STILL be an offense against country music.

Don't you dare insinuate that because I'm a rap artist my musical opinion is less valid than yours. I write music reviews professionally, for over four different genres.

    Blow me

  • I agree with what you said but:

As if being a rap artist automatically downgrades me to being some syntax 'raping' retard..

    haha

  • What I find hilarious is that you, amongst millions of others on YouTube, find it necessary to get angry and prove yourself to someone the other side of a computer screen, who you know absolutely nothing about and who has barely spoken to you.

Also, insults like "you're fucking retarded" do not get you anywhere and make you look the complete opposite of intelligent.

So do everyone a favour. Stop spreading your hate and anger around and watch the videos you DO like.

    Thanks.
