I've never really understood why you'd go to all that trouble to paint the detailed grey scale under painting first in this technique when you're going to paint over much of it with color. Plus the grey would kind of dull the brightness of some colors. That said, it's still an old masters technique and it does produce some great paintings. (it's not that different from my own technique of a primary color under painting either). Good video that clearly shows the process. Enjoyed it :-)
