  • At high elevation is where the turbo shines vs NA 2 stroke or 4. Your NA 2stroke at sea level might make 170hp..... 9000ft probably 130ish. with a turbo you can gain or have the same power at elevation.

  • Everyone posting here seems to be forgetting that this motor with a turbo will last 3 times as long as its stock 2 stroke counterparts. I ride 2-stroke and love it however if they can keep making 4strokes lighter and with more power i'll be switching soon. Who wants to rebuild every 5000 miles..... I know I know settle down, you can get 10,000 miles out of your 600, good luck getting more than 4000 miles out of your 800 mtn sled before rebuild

  • I have a supercharged Nytro and love it. I would like to get a MCX turbo kit for my wife's phazer. After walking this video I would like one even more. IMO all sled need more power. I ride my friends 800's and feel like they need more HP. This includes the skidoos, cats and polaris. They can't keep up when climbing with me. I try to get them to turbo their sleds but they don't because they are afraid of blowing an engine. One large benefit of the 4 stroke. More reliable engines.

  • 0-100K those turbo Phazers are wild. Even non-turbo'd their torque is very impressive. Of course the 800's would catch up and pass him past 80-100k no question. Nice video.

  • Im pretty sure you cant just throw a turbo on any 2 choke...itd lean out and blow up...and the strokes are way different so the turbo would just blow boost right out the exaust.

  • sorry spo, but c3 wins that arguement. If 4 strokes don't take effect you won't see snowmobiles in national parks in a decade, and ousted from prov/state parks soon after. The 2 stroke does more harm then good for the environment of the vehicle. Why else would every brand make a 4 stroke sled, independent suspension could have been a Arctic Cat fad in the 90s, but you don't see trailing arms now do ya?

  • @nikstiks the nytro race sleds are within 15 pounds of every other snocross sled besides the ski-doo, which its outweighs by 40 pounds.. not 100. and if you are a good enough rider, you can get a "heavy" 4 stroke to keep up with any other sled on the trail, and up the hill. modded or not

  • Ok 4 stroke race bike (dirtbikes) r so much less reliable then a 2 stroke it might have more bottom end but the 2t kills with top. And thoughs turbo sleds r only good for going up steep stuff and over heat with turbos. two stroke sleds r way better overall except for the few days were a turbo might out perform but it depends wat u like to ride.

  • It's all about how you build it initially. Lot's of 4-strokes are built to handle turbocharging. 2-strokes are not. If you use the same design techniques and materials then the 2-stroke will be able to handle boost. 2-stroke diesels for example last millions of miles on high boost.

    The other side is a N/A 1000cc 2t will keep up with a turbo 4t before the 4t becomes a time bomb.

    Also a Nytro weighs 620lbs full of fuel and a RevXP 800 weighs 528lbs with 20hp more. That is a 92lb difference.

  • @c3h9e4v7y 4 strokes sleds are 100 pounds too heavy. That is not the future. Clean 2-strokes are the only way to keep snowmobiling fun. This video is lame, of course a heavily modded sled can beat stock. How long is the crankshaft going to last on a heavy turbo 11,000 RPM 500cc 4-stroke? Like 2 days.

  • i bet that turbo phaser weighs 60-80 lbs less than the other sleds it raced. I rode a Rx-1 a buddy a mine had last winter and it was the fastest sled i have ever ridden, compared to XC 800's and MXZ 800's. 4 strokes ARE the future whether you 2 smokes want to admit it or not!

How do 2 strokes make better power? 4 strokes have a much broader power band, and the initial cost of a 4 stroke maybe more then a 2 stroke, but the 4 stroke will use less oil, less gas, and needs less maintenance, so in the long run they are cheaper.

    4 stroke dirtbikes need re-builds every 80 hrs. im not to sure on the re build times on 4 stroke sleds as i have never looked into one. but they will need re-builds and constant valve matnance.

  • @dragoncustomcycles Yes they need to be rebuilt, but not until you put around 18,000 miles on them. By then most sleds are trashed anyways. 4 strokes are cheaper to maintain its plain and simple. Think of all the money you save with a 4 stroke, probably wont have to rebuild to motor, less gas, and less oil.

  • I would check your stuff again "kc" because four srokes are alot more reliable and can handle more boost, we run ours on 14lbs of boost on premium fuel and two strokes run like 4lbs and are alot less reliable

    A 2-stroke fires twice as often as a 4-stroke = twice the power. Throw in the same boost and the power rises the same.

    The reason for 4-stroke use is the sleds can be sold for more profit so they are advertised more. AND the 4-strokes, up until recently, have had better emissions and fuel economy.

    Also race classes allow bigger 4-strokes. You see 600cc vs 1000cc. Fair? NO.

    Put equal development and displacement and 2-strokes rule.

  • Compare actual high strung engines. Dirt Bikes. A 250cc 2-stroke makes the same power that a 450cc 4-stroke makes. AND the 2-Strokes kick the 4-Strokes ass in reliability.

    The fact is 2-stroke stomp 4-strokes in power while still maintaining reliability.

    So yes, make a turbo 1000cc 2-stroke and a turbo 1000cc 4-stroke and the 2-stroke will make more power, weigh less, and be far more reliable.

I have a CR250R, i have to rebuild it every year after race season. the Rings and piston are alway beat to fuck, My CRF450 Is still perfect. and they are much more reliable if you know how to maintain them. Oh and a news fash for ya, an average 250 twostroke makes roughly 10 HP less than the average 450 . You need to Check the facts kid. I know this shit, i Work with it EVERY DAY. Dont argue with me.

  • You are funny. In reality, racers often rebuild 4-strokes every race, not season. A CRF450R makes 48hp. Maico's 250MX makes 54hp.

    I have always been a 4-stroke guy but since the new 4-stroke started blowing up every other race ($2000 rebuild) I switched to supporting 2-strokes that last a season ($300 rebuild)

    And in a fair race 250cc vs 250cc name one 4-stroke that will match a 2-stroke?

  • they dont rebuild 4 strokes every race buddy haha, and We put a stock CRF on our Dyno jet dyno and it made a clean 53 hp. My CR250R makes 42hp with mild jetting and piped. I would like to see a maico 250 mx make 54 hp. mabee with a shot of NOS! lol

    Any modern Motocross 4 stroke 450 will out perform a modern 250 twostroke. period. (Engine wise anyway). If your blowin up a 4 stoke every other race, it's either a piece of shit or you dont know what your doing.

  • I have read the most recent 450F test and they dyno'd the bikes themselves. The lowest was the CRF450R with 46.5hp. The highest was the Kawasaki at 48.9hp.

    I don't doubt your CR250 makes 42hp. It was designed 10 years ago. But the Maico is a brand new engine and dynos have seen 54hp. Dynos have also seen KTM 300XCs making 57hp.

  • I never said a current 250 will outperform a 450. The problem is there is NO modern 2-stroke. Are you going to deny that a modern 500 will SMOKE a modern 450F? Or that a 250 2-stroke will beat a 250 4-stroke? KTM's 150SX recently outlapped the KX250F from 4 different riders.

    Your problem is you compare 10 year old 2-strokes to new 4-strokes with double the displacement.

  • That's assuming you leave out modern technology just making its entrance to snowmobiling. Example Ski-Doo's new 600 E-Tec. As much power as a Yamaha 1050(across the whole range) and gets better fuel mileage. (21mpg vs 18mpg).

  • try the thorottle pull the ski doo espicaly the 800 backcountry you need to have a thumb strength building corse to use it..... extreamily heavy almost hurts after a while

  • well it was a while ago this one was a friends and he had it moded but i dont know of any thing that would effect the throttle pull but i am not sure i can ask him if he put somthing in that could have done that

  • All I know about reliability is that an equally equipped 2-stroke will be more reliable because the engines have longer strokes, bigger pistons, less compression, and less RPM.

    That is exactly how it is in boating and dirt bikes. Maybe no one has put any development into 2-strokes in snowmobiling but if they did they would have the same results. Including turbos.

  • the turbo phazer is dynoed at 140 hp, 92 torque, 515 lbs and the 2006 800 skidoo is 140.6, 92 torque hp, 478 lbs. but the phazer still beat it. that shows you weight and hp isn't everything
