Hey Bob We Don't Need Foreigners to Tell Us How To Run Things in Canada......But Don't Waist Your Trip ....Take Back Some US Cowardly Deserters and Old Draft Dodgers ...We Don't Want Them .....Do It Now....
I don't think you understand, squeeker. The Valley Zoo has Lucy and paid money for her. They profit from her pain.
Lucy has been invited to retire to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. They will pay all costs to get her there including produce to feed her on the way. They have a special trailer just for elephant transport. She won't be going back into the wild, she'll be with other elephants of her kind enjoying life on her terms. Left at the zoo she'll die. She doesn't prefer people.
I don't think you fully understand that this Elephant was taken out of its natural environment from someone else other then the valley zoo. After being taken away they CANNOT go back. Now isn't it better having the animal live then to set it free and let it slowly and painfully die on its own back in the wild? Aside from that this elephant loves her keepers! Loves the zoo and is super spoiled by taking these walks and having these enrichment programs. Can you say the same for other zoo's?
Lucy has chronic foot infections, arthritis and a lung ailment.
Tove Reece went on one of those walks that Lucy goes on and Lucy was rushed along and wasn't allowed to go into the trees. Zoos keep saying the bullhooks are necessary but if an elephant goes berserk a bullhook isn't going to do much good. Being locked up during the winter is literally killing Lucy. Does she have osteomyelitis, emeegeeayen?
Thanks for the video tour of the elephant house. Pretty depressing with all the bars, pulleys, flat hard surfaces, and the most depressing painted-on-the-walls trees. Yuck!
Lucy's walk seems to be a hurried affair - impatient handlers with bullhooks. They don't want Lucy to dilly-dally, she might poop in the picnic area... and they'd have to go back and scoop it. Pathetic!
Lucy deserves a healthy environment... with elephant companions! The Elephant Sanctuary has it all!
A VERY small enclosure!! She is in Canada, so she's indoors almost the entire yr. Yea, "great" way to live.....Zoos suck. They are so depressing. And....she's alone. Elephants are herding animals that stay w/their female relatives their whole lives.
This video doesn't portray the real size of the elephants enclosure. This is only a small portion. She has two huge outside area's complete with playground apparatuses. She is not inside all year round. She goes for her walks everyday. She chooses when she wants to go out. The bars are there as a caution for the public. The bars with in her enclosure are always open allowing her to roam freely! I think if you go to the zoo on a regular basis you would see she is spoiled well loved and very happy.
Thank you for posting this, people need to see what lucy goes through.

I was just thinking, "Looks like a prison!" when your annotation popped up. Awful. Did you take all these videos yourself, elemama10?

You have no idea about this unless you have actually been there. You have no clue how well she's taken care of.

At closer inspection, the "bag" looked more like a jug.
