  • very informative video. now I understand how this works. Thanks.

  • Its very bad when on of those little tubes gets clugged or oil logged. you can smack it with a hammer all day and it aint gonna seat properly. high low side and high high side will give it away, along with a hissing noise.

  • @mattbrandi yeh, I've had a few window units do that because they had been stored on their side/upside down, and oil had flooded into the RV, ruining it :(

they usually hiss and the suction line from the evaporator sweats up to the RV, but not past it because HP gas is leaking in.

  • Im doing a compressor change at the moment at home (5.5hp reverse) - non inverter on 22.

I'm going to stick a bi flow drier on the suction line, would i also need one on the liquid or not really.

The compressor was rattling and making dumb noises - not a burn out as such (copeland scroll).

I've installed the compressor itself and run it up to check operation (no probs, sounds great), will do the contactor as well.

  • my point exactly, a new pcb would be required, and probably an accumulator, where would you find the room for it

  • @cdemps29 yep, its a lost cause, I waste no time on such projects.

  • you could not add a reversing valve to a window unit, it operates at different ambient temperatures

  • @cdemps29 I have tonns of factory made window heatpumps, but to make a cool-only one into a heatpump would require more parts and work than its worth

  • Watch those CHECK VALVES!

  • @radiootoo I covered check valves in a later video on heatpumps

  • Would the correct way totroubleshoot a rv would be to check the in coming versuses the out going temp once you have checked everything elese?

  • @THEHVACTECH101 I'm not a tec myself but I would say its a good way to see where the gas is going while the system is running.

aside from that apply voltage to the coil and see if it switches over or frees up, assuming its stuck.

  • @Aussie50 Thank you sir ,excuse the typos.

  • Excellent video i always wanted to see the internal component of a reversing valve.. Thanks

  • that is pretty damn cool i never knew that existed

  • @walkingfreak yeah their a neat bit of gear!. using pressure differential to change modes!

  • very nice vid great job

  • can i install a reversing valve and new thermostat control to my window a/c to convert it to heat/cool?

  • You would have to re-engineer the whole system, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

main thing would be to make sure the condensing coil will work as a evap coil without any problems.

likewise the accumualtor on the compressor may not be large enough to deal with excess liquid comeing back to it.

  • Cheaper to buy a new unit. Much cheaper.

It would need to have auxilary heat anyways unless it was grossly oversized to begin with. In which case it would make a poor air conditioner because it would not run long enough to pull out humidity. If you have the cash look into inverter driven heat pumps. Most mini splits and Nordyne builds a split system. If on a budget check out amana PTAC / PTHP. Get your window back and close the damn thing before you let all the air out.

  • Nice video. It is so much easier to understand when you can actually see it.

  • That was great! I've never quite understood how the valve switched! Nicely done :> Michael

  • cool vid.

  • Great video. I see no reason why you couldn't take a heat active reversing valve and make it cool active.

  • THx for clarifying that man, I had a feeling it would work as long as the solenoid operation is taken into account.

Switch on for heat, or switch on for cool depending on how the valve is oriented.

  • Nice video mate, keep them comin... yay i learn't sumthin new today..thx dude

Its cool how you dicect things to show how they work :)

  • Thx, gotta find more unique stuff to dissect now :D

I'm thinking I'll do one of the old Danfoss VLT drives this weekend.

  • haha lol yer:D:D

    cheers dude

  • i love how you do cross sections and show the inside of this stuff please keep it up i love your work , i once as a kid tried to open a compressore like some of the ones you have shown but was unsuccesfull, thanks

  • Thx man ;), I'll be doing the Fujitsu inverter unit next weekend since it got rained on last night :(
