  • In your opinion, what is the BEST material for a hammock, and what material(s) do you always recommend for the suspension?

  • @SPIKEwillKILL Ripstop nylon and I use amsteel whoopie slings and tree straps for suspension.

  • @shugemery arent there alot of types of rip stop nylon? or just rip stop nylon in general? I'm new to hammock camping, but have been sleeping in a hammock in my basement for a couple of years.

  • @SPIKEwillKILL Yes...for sure. I like 1.5 for a single layer. Check out tothewoodsdotnet and look at the 'hammock camping" part. Tons of info there.

  • @shugemery So ripstop nylon is classified by grams per cubic foot or meter? is that what you mean by 1.5? If so, then what would be the lightest weight i could use that would still be safe to hold my weight? Also, :D what do you think of the parachute fabric stuff they use for some Eno, and Grand Truck hammocks?

  • @SPIKEwillKILL Depends on your weight...I am 185 and use 1.5. Parachute fabric will work. I backpack so always think about the weight I tote.

  • @shugemery Why does everyone love Hennessy Hammocks so much? and why are they so dang expensive?! What do you think about the Grand Trunk Ultralight Travel Hammock?

  • @SPIKEwillKILL Well they come with a tarp as well. And you can buy them off the shelf. I have never tried one. Grand Trunk Ultra Light is a short and narrow hammock. If you are over 5' 8" you may want tot size up.

  • WAIT will i need some sorta ridgeline OMG how do you tie a prusick thingy

  • @photocowan Not needed....I just am used to them. Google prussic knot and many results will show.

  • I think I may pull the trigger on the lite owl WHOO BUDDY!

  • Um.. hey Shug... will the Snipe Hammock will fit under your Cuben Fiber Tarp? Inquiring minds want to know... :)

  • @PoorAttire It does, it does.

  • Ok. That plastic rat is creepy bro ...

  • @unknownperpetrator My intention !

  • @shugemery LOL! Yeah I figured. I was being rhetorical I think. One of those words ending in "al" anyway. I get confused with those ... stating the obvious for comedic effect. Or is it affect? Oi!

  • Shug, is this the company that makes the hammock that you can put pads in like a sandwich? And if so, have you used them before and how did it work for you? I live in the deep south and only occasionally does it gets down in the 20's. I am wanting to try winter hammocking. Thanks for your vids.

  • @kyletango They make double layers...the night owl and light owl. You can slip a pad in. Check their website for more info. I have only tried their single layer.

  • How do you feel about ENO Eagle Nest Hammocks

  • @GOTHWHT12 I laid in one once Comfy. A bit heavier though I think.

  • Nice boomerang! LOL

  • Hey Shug. I have been looking back at your videos and can't find the one that tells what kind of video camera you have. Can you please re-state? Thank-ie!

  • Shug You have great videos. I have learn a great deal and laughed alot. I a, a nooby to hiking and starting to pick up some gear. I was wanting to get you feeling on a Hennessy Hammock as a first time purchase. It is sold as a full kit at a reasonable price.

  • @L23chappy Thankee.....I don't have a Hennessy but know some others that do and seem to like them a lot. True....complete package.

  • WHOOOOOOOOO BUDDDDY. CAN WE GET A WHOOO BUDDDY VIDEO. MY ONE YEAR OLD LOVES IT WHEN SHE HEARS IT.

  • @colganwilson Whoooo Buddy back-atcha and her)))))

  • Great review, its nice to see a review with a sense of humor mixed in and still get lots of info, your videos are definitely not canned.

  • @roger486 I appreciate it. I do wing it a bit>>>>>

  • PS have you tried any pork brains with milk gravy lately, lol you and your Hickery brother are very entertaining! Keep sending in the videos.

  • Hi Shug you need to do some more Q videos. I just got a Henessy for Christmas and for some reason I have an addiction to alcohol stoves, my favorite one is my homemade super cat.

  • Heehee! Good stuff Shug buddy! Looks like a gooder ;o) The little foot box deal is bitchin' :o)

  • G'day Shugs, There kind of like a tent more a kanvis bed roll. we carry them in the truck or car or horse back! but outback in some areas we dont have many trees.. but where I go bush I dont have much of a problem. But in the mountains and hills I recon the hammock would be the go. Like popping Game ithe hills if you cant find flat gown the Hammock would work better.

  • And sorry i said juniorchef11 at the show

  • nice hammock!

  • Thanks for the Snipe feedback Shug--I'm about ready to pull the trigger on my first hammock. What are your thoughts on the Night/Lite Owls, specifically the pouch for a pad. Sounds like a great idea, but since you lay at a diagonal (and the pad being straight following the lay of the hammock), wouldn't parts of your body end up off the pad? I guess a better question is how wide is the pouch?

  • @davidw992000 The bottom layer is the same size so you can put your pad at the angle you sleep in. No problemo.

  • Good video as always. You have got to do an outtake video sometime!

  • @MooseZ71 Most of them would get me in trouble!

  • Well now, I think you done gone and convinced me to purchase one of them there contraptions!

  • @sio5RCA Hope it works well for you and gets you out there even more.

  • Very nice job great hammock

  • @NoLimitsTV1 I thankee.

  • I am glad to see you incorporated a R.O.U.S. in your video! very funny :) Love the new hammock!

  • @mwig50 Big ol' rat for sure!

  • Shugs I might have see about getting one for myself most of us Bloke out here in the Aussie Bush use swags not hammocks but I'd love to give one a go? Rod

  • @TheWaggaBloke Swags are like small one man tents.....right?

  • Thanks shug

  • @Walterispyro Whoooo Buddy!

  • Another interesting, informative LMAO video... great job Shug.

  • @Pirahnaxxx I thankee feller.

  • Looks like a great, simple hammock! no bug net but who needs it in this arctic hammock warrior weather?! thanks once again for the good video

  • @alexn159 I like simple.....and try not to camp in big bug season....too hot for me.

  • Milkuberry. Hey Shug, my Dad has been looking into hammocks and he was telling me about this YT channel he found where a very funny guy had very good information and his name began with an S. I said Shug? He replied no that's not it. Ha. But when I took him to your channel he said, Yeah, that's the guy, he's awesome...Dash

  • @mrriprock2 That is funny! Thankee

  • Hey I am 13 and looking for a really cheap camping tarp for my hammock to bring on scout campouts

  • @Walterispyro Check jacksrbetterdotcom. Or use a blue tarp from somewhere like Home Depot.

  • Great video friend, fun and entertaining as always. Thanks for sharing...

  • @69Grunden Y'elcome and thanks.

  • G'day Shugs, hey! Mate... ya go'na have to lay off the COFFEE after 6:30pm Mate! it's starting to get a hold of ya! Shugs lol Love ya Work Mate...

  • @TheWaggaBloke I actually felt sorta tired and was digging deep!

  • Thanks Shug, love your style and extras

  • @MrHatManS I appreciate it.

  • 7:46 LOL!!! Golly Shug, you outdo yourself!

How's the 29er uni riding going buddy?

  • @Patriot36 the 29er is wonderful....not riding much as I am rehabing a knee problem. Bit of an ACL issue. Getting better though.

  • Are you playing recorded summertime frog and cricket noises in the background in a attempt to fool us into thinking your in the piney woods? You tricky guy!! You almost made me forget that it's winter here in Minnesota!!! Great video! Snipes on my wish list now!

  • @AndroidM1980 I was....it was just quiet with the just the clock ticking. I thankee...

  • Shug...on a 126"x60" gather end hammock w/out bug net would a 115" ridge-line be enough to fit this hammock from widerness logics?

  • @TheTonyjara I think it should......

  • Looks a good Hammock Shug! Good review. :-)

  • @007vauxhall Cheery thanks.

  • That video just made me order a snipe hammock! (as well as a new tarp and a few other things to play with)

Don't let my wife get you! ;-)

  • @Beuteltiere Enjoy and hang goodly!

  • Another great video and a wonderful product review . . . awesome!

BTW, was that a special Aussie Ice Boomerang? ;-)

  • @USNERDOC Icearang cobber!

    Mucho obligato

  • Milkyourberry...lol

  • @FALKORDOG True.....milk it!

  • i think this hammock is a wee bit more complicated than i want in a hammock. still just happy with my eno. but great video anywho. wife says-- where did you get the "Rodent Of Unusual Size"... she is sure you will get it...

  • @FixedByDoc As long as your happy that is cool. The rat is a Linville Gorge Rat.

  • shug. If you ever hit wisconsin again man send me a message. I would love to "hang" with ya.

  • @Popeye1117 I'll hollar out "beer, cheese and deer" real loud)))))

    Cool feller. Thanks.

  • Oh, Sug! How much caffeine did you have today? ;)

  • @ETHIOLOGIST1 Actually a wee bit tired that whole day...the coffee never took, or so I thought.

  • @shugemery - Sure wish I had that kind of "tired" energy!

  • You must have some Aussie in ya Mate. You can chuck that Boomarang cobber.....

  • @nudgabollocks Hey.......maybe I do! Love chucking the 'rang.

  • Love it! Love the rat :-)

    Cheers

  • @ekhaat Cheers and thank you.

  • Good info! You are very entertaining Shug!! Love your videos!

  • @TuskerFan I bow to you here....

  • Nice bare bones starter hammock......but it would be nice if they included a cat cut tarp as well for the same amount? Is that an Ideal place to throw a boomerang upon a open ice water was that lake owasso? What do you think of Frontenac State park?..What do you think of the Benny Hill theme song to train with while I'm hiking?

  • @TheTonyjara Sure ....that would be nice! Yes it is ideal. Not Owassa.....I like Frontenac walk-in sites........Benny Hill is very good for that.

  • Seems like there should be a way to neaten/shrink up that gathered end that is flopping all around.???

  • @mzimmerman12 pull the draw cord.

  • @shugemery I was talking about the end of the hammock (1:23) Looks like you shrunk it into a small ball right after that as shown when you are talking about the foot box. It would be cool if you made some follow up videos as you trick out the hammock to your liking.

I wonder what it would be like to go backpacking with you and Robin Williams at the same time! Ha Ha!

Love your videos, by the way!

  • @mzimmerman12 There is a small ball...the way they whip it.

You'll see it with continual loops and dutch biners on a trip report more than likely.

    Thanks feller.

  • Great review Shug! Thanks. This looks like a very well made hammock. Anthony.

  • @biblesnbarbells Thanks....it is.

  • Hey shug! How tall are you? Trying to get an Idea. Im about 6'7". Curious how it will lay.

  • @circuitjerker81 I'm 6 feet.....but shrinking!

  • Nice Shug good review. You never use netting on your hammocks do you. I've noticed your WB has no netting. I do Pisgah a lot and the skeeters can be down right problematic. How do you get around that?

  • @pappyhighlife I try to go in non-buggy season...I abhore summer!

My WB does have netting and I have used it. Awesome! But usually it is just thrown back and I can catch the breeze.

  • Awesome video shug, as always. The background noise threw me off a bit, I started to feel like it was summer again. Also, why did you disable ratings for this video?

  • @Gabbos It was my sound machine....too quiet in there that evening.

I get rated in my work so here I absolve it.

  • you do the cottage industry proud with your review dude, good job

  • @sweetypie000 I like to help out the small biz if they have a good product.

  • Great Vid Shug,as I have come to expect from you mate, looks a great bit of kit too. :o)

  • @redeyesinthedark I thankee. I'll try to keep it real.

  • Always good to see what's new in the Nut-Hut there Shug. Nice review as always.

  • @TheCelticwizzard Been practicing a lot lately and felt the need for a video....plus, I like this hammock.

  • This is a nice hammok, however I believe I will stick to custom makin my own.

  • @JSD3530 Carry on. This one is easy to DIY.

  • LOL dude... hilarious!! Hard to pay attention when I'm laughing..

    Sore cheeks here as well.

Great hammock.. sadly I'm a little to heavy for it. =\

Packing around some holiday chubby still.. :P

  • @markshmily They have one that will hold 375 pounds.

Still dropping some cookie fat myself.

  • Thanks Shug for another cool video! I enjoy your videos about of gear and ideas about how to enjoy the great outdoors! i hope you keep making these videos as every time i watch one it motivates me to get outside myself. i usually use a tent but lately I've been trying out a hammock set up. even if i stick with tents or move to the hammocks. your videos have been a fun way to challenge my self and get out side. all the best and i can't wait until your next video. whoooooooooo buddy all the best!

  • @mwilez As long as I am having fun and folks find then worthy then I shall. Cheers.

  • Very cool, I just checked out the Night Owl... Looks great also! Shug, have you ever used an old bag as an under quilt? I have an old hoodless down bag that unzips all the way so I could fasten some shock cord couldn't I? Thanks as always for the vids!!

  • @divrnr I never have but a lot of folks do. Just make sure it is snug up against your back and buttocks.

  • Mannn I must be crazy, cause I swear I hear crickets and peepers in the background. Shug did you record this in the summer?

  • @polarfisher55555 I had a sound machine on....needed some fill as all I could hear was the clock ticking.

  • Shug I thoroughly enjoy your videos, I also think you would like the videos of; paulwelkins . Check him out he is a designer & inventer of bikes, shelters, boats, survival kits & whatever strikes his fancy. I just thought u might enjoy his videos. Keep em coming.

  • @beachidiot I shall. Thanks....

  • @beachidiot I took a quick look....brilliant stuff. I love the homeless shelters.

  • Cool review on the hammock Shug....will check out their website.

  • @larrylynn123 Tell 'em Shug sent ye'....

  • I give that hammock dismount a 10. My brother sent me out for snipes when I was a kid. Armed with a stick and potato sack!

  • @Grubkat I'll take it.

  • nice looking. the hammock. well you too. but you know in an appropriate way. yeah. ok, take care ;)

  • @dragonflyhiker Too funny)))))

  • Great product review Shug! Seems to be a good value for an all inclusive package. I'm also a head right feet left hanger.

  • @jdmredteg I think it is. Like your style.

  • Looks like it has enough room to set up some snipe traps. That way your can kill two birds with one stone. Snipe hunting and get a good night's sleep.

  • @1timby It is vast in there!

  • You always bring a smile brother shug. I come home from a crappy day at work and you have a video...excitement building... I watch it and walk away singing in your form.

    Thanks for being you.

  • @Nojack71 Shug just has a way of bringing sunshine to a gloomy day!

  • @athiker7209 I'm all misty now!

  • @Nojack71 That is a Day-Maker there! Thanks for that.

  • Thanks for showing us the new rig.

  • @gcstorm1 Y'elcome

  • It's warm here in NC. T-ville is just up the street from me I'll check this out. Rock on Shug!

  • @Sivart1977 Yeah, they did furniture too I believe.

  • They should make it $99. It'd seem a ton less and my wife might let me get one. But, $100. No dice.

  • @coolkayaker1 Dollar deal-breaker. Dice on Ice

  • WOOOO that's a great Boomerang throw there BUDDY....... :-)

Oh maaan...you have a serious rat problem there in Sector 7 mate. Get yourself a couple of Ferrets.

  • @RDPproject Frozen lake is perfect ror the 'rang.

    Ferrets.....haaaa

  • Dude you Rock !!! I always enjoy watching the Shug .

  • @nuckkingfuts Appreciated Ty.

  • lol i LOVE your vids!!! great review! will be pickign one up asap. thxs again and keep em comeing. :)

  • @TheRazzar1031 Well done.

  • I like the fact that it's Barry White.

  • @thebudgetgamer No Compende.....

  • @shugemery Well your hammock has a whoopee sling and on this sling there's a Barry that happens to be white so, I know it's a stretch. I almost went with Chuck Barry.

  • You sending folks snipe hunting Shug? At least that snipe is a hammock. Better than going bird hunting with a gunnysack. My brothers were dumb enough to go snipe hunting. I read the "cyclopedia" and knew better. Looks mighty nice and mighty light.

  • @RebLin51 I was a snipe hunt sucker!

  • @shugemery Now if you had been a bookworm and read the encyclopedia like I did you would have known that a Snipe is a wading bird found in marshes and on shores of lakes and such. They are hard to sneak up on anyway even with a shotgun and bag. It is where they get the word Sniper as you got to be a crack shot and sneaky to get one at least according to wikipedia

  • That looks like a mighty good hammock for $100! I'll have to get one myself!

  • @jjjperrin It really is a fine deal.

  • Not being able to sleep on yer side has been a hammock deal breaker for me. Not anymore, it seems. Thanks for the great review as usual.

  • @medic2807 It feels good in this one for sure.

  • @medic2807 I have a Trek Light double and I'm able to lay on my side.

  • You are TOO much Shuggy-Shug! Thanks... now my cheeks are ahurt'n again! Pete D.---

  • @PeteSeeker455 Good to hear. sore cheeks make me proud.

  • Thats not a bad price... I am going to get one or two at tax time for my kidos. They keep bugging me to get in mine.

Im going to set them up in there rooms, that will make them happy and me to. LOL

  • @genergoebel Very nice....and free shipping too)))) Good Dad to those kids.

  • Awhile back I was looking at this hammock on the Wilderness Logic website and wondering how good it really was.. Now after watching this review I believe that I may just have to get one. Heck you can never have to many hammocks!

  • @MrPoppabear255 I only own 4 hammocks...if you can believe that.

  • @shugemery Knotty at Hammock Forums was the first I seen do this.

  • @VaughnDesiel I saw that too.

  • I think you might have just converted me. I am been a ground pounder ,but thanks to your video's I going to try this hammock thing out. thanks shug . love the videos you make me laugh every time

  • @1885dr Whatever gets you to the woods.....tent or hammock. I just love it!

  • That is a good price point for a handmade hammock. Thanks for the vid, Shug.

  • @faolbushcraft I been real happy with it and made in NC makes me feel all fuzzy since I grew up down there.

  • $100 ain't bad for the whole kit & caboodle!

I need to lay in mine more before I get a new one.

I do believe these were my favorite outtakes to date, although that trip you did into the snow still gives me a chuckle when I think about it : )

  • @CampfireTalk To true....free shipping is good)))

    I left a lot of out-takes out......bit dodgy.
