For everyone commenting about the decision on the 1995 Sestriere jump: what Jarnis did not mention was that all other jumps in the competition were heavily wind aided and that the same person would stand in front of the anemometer for every jump that Pedroso made....
@Jarnis86. yes, the notorious Italian Athletics Federation, the domain of Primo Nebiolo. Giovanni Evangelisti, 1987. We all know. As for Pedroso, I agree with you who say he was the best long jumper ever. It's a very difficult event. What a masterful technician, so smooth and balanced. He demonstrates his smooth style with this one here. And his infamous foul jump, now that must be the longest of all time.
oooooo ur in trouble now tht u read this keep reading and something good will happen to u and if u don't the dark world will do very bad things to u A boy named Thomas was walking then he heard a noise in the woods He thought it was just a rabbit so he kept on walking then he saw a flash then died Now that u read this repost this on 10 different Youtube videos in less than 24 hours or you will see a bloody dirty face in the window and he will kill you with a knife HURRY u dont have much time
"At altitude in Sestriere in 1995, Iván Pedroso jumped 8.96 meters with a measured wind of +1.2. This would have been the world record, beating Mike Powell by one centimeter. However, the Italian Athletics Federation did not forward the result to the IAAF for ratification, since the wind mark was declared invalid because a person stood in front of the anemometer, probably intercepting the correct wind measurement"

mike powell was number one and pedroso did the lil thing with his hand like powell. bob beamon, mike powell, carl lewis, pedroso were all great jumpers. its now salidino whos doin his thing.
Awesome Pedroso. Although it seems to me that he does seem to lose some distance on his landing in this jump. Nevertheless he won and was only 1cm from his legal PR/PB. It is shame that he injured his hamstring in 1996 as I believe he would've won the Olympic Games LJ title from Carl Lewis.
his landing was great, good extension he was just taking longer hitch kicking whereas normally he extends earlier, but he wouldnt have got any further anyway. What a jump.
I really want to see his 8.96m though and carl lewis' 9m foul in indiannapolis

whatever your opinion is it wont matter, look at the stats maybe if pedroso would havent hurt is hamstring in 95/96 era he would have been the best. but no one can compete with 4 straight olympic goals.
Beautiful jump but his take off speed seems to be that of a 400m runner, rather than that of a 60m sprinter. Frustrating. If he was a little faster i'm sure he could of put the record beyond reach at over 9m!!
Right now my PB is 5.63m and I'm 1.45m tall and I am 12 years of age. I smashed everyone at nationals by at least 67cm

He was a great athlet.
I remember when i saw him in Padova,he jumped 8,62.Than went into the crowd(yeah between us,only 1000 persons) to sign autographs.
He definitely deserves the title of best long jumper ever(that 8.96 was WR no matter what) with Carl Lewis & Mike POwell.

i still wonder y ivan couldn't get the world record, this guy was amazing!!!! he could have made a legal 9m jump for real!!
hoticeburns 2 years ago 3
Actually he did get the world record.
He jumped 9.96m but it was an illegal wind reading and was not permitted under IAAF rules & regulations, so it couldn't stand as a world record.
This guy also did a jump that was around 9.25m but it was a foul, that jump can be found on you tube.
Ivan really is the best long jumper of all time.

He surpassed the wr with a leap of 8.96m but someone was disrupting the wind guage. Damn.
He's also had a narrow 9.03m foul at the 95 pan am games. I think he could've set the wr.
