  • Oh, that looks so good. I'm so sorry I missed dinner. My invitation must have gotten lost in the mail.

  • AMAZING RECIPE. Turns out pretty good.

  • AWESOME that was delicious that one goes in the memory box

  • dont have any butchers twone? use the skin, pop some holes and put the legs in that!

  • nice!!!

  • Julia Child's name needs to be removed from this vid. The reason being is that is not her recipe, its Jerimiah Tower's. Julia Child introduced Tower on her show and he cooked this chicken solo. Please remove Julia's name and replace it with Towers.

  • @baritonebynight Who is going to have more name recognition? Tower or Julia? Face it my friend, by allowing Julia to both show and print his recipe in her book she becomes a de-facto co-owner. Besides, isn't this really lemon roast chicken with herbs? A basic roasting recipe, no more no less.

  • @nokomarie1963 I respectfully disagree. I think it's a diservice to Julia Child with a vid that is as full of misinformation as this such as"Julia uses walnut oil" which is an ingredient that she rarely if ever used. She used butter on her chicken which was her favorite thing to use. I'm a huge fan of Julia and I wish that this vid was either redone with her chicken, or the name changed to Tower's. I'm probably in the minority, but then again, a lot of people like Sandra Lee.

  • I can't find a single person that doesn't love Julia Child. She was a motherly figure to all of us who watched her show. What a great person, she radiated grace. Rest in peace Julia your memory is eternal.

  • holy....

  • i swear to god, i will kidnapp you just to get you to cook food for me

  • Kudos to Julia Child who could make a roast chicken turn into an aphrodisiac.

  • 1,630 likes..can't go wrong with classic

  • I made this tonight it was AWESOME!!

  • ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja..........!

  • YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMYYYYYY...

  • Do you think this wet rub could work with turkey? :) thanks!

  • @MissStephieTing of course all birds

  • Why did i find this when i searched for Ice cream?

  • Tried this recipe out and it was AMAZING...the bones made an awesome stock too! I'm making it again tonight : D

  • That burnt stuff in the roasting pan is really unhealthy (though delicious of course as anything bad for you is tasty).

  • Oh my lord, will you please adopt me-

    *looks at top comment*

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-!!!!!!!!!!

  • why the hell did i watch this when its time to sleep???now i'm hungry can't sleep

  • @lenthokchom lollllll your so funny!! hahahhahaha (sorry you couldnt sleep) you made me laugh so hard! thumps up

  • stop this you are making me hungry.

  • 5:39-5:45 so many adjectives

  • you're awesome chef john!

  • Absolutely to die for.

  • The 28 people who disliked this are haunted by Julia Childs.

  • God Bless Julia Child!

  • cant wait to make this recipie for my family

  • British dialect - "Herbs"

    American dialect - "Urbs"

It comes down to the dialect. There is no right or wrong. Much like the letter Z.

  • erm ok, im English,Ispeak the correct version, herb that you eat, you pronounce the h. Take it from me (and Queen Elizabeth II)

  • @chevgr Pretty sure the word "herb" comes from the french "herbe," which is pronounced without an "h" sound.

  • u sound like a great fan of Julia Child!

  • who is Julia?

  • I hate the way Americans pronounce herbs. Why do you drop the h?

  • @chevgr Herb (with the H) is the name of a man. Herb (silent H) are the things you cook with.

  • That poor bird, didn't have a good day...

  • Is this the same as engagement chicken?

  • just made this it was scrumptious! used spinach instead of watercress and it was just fine

  • A bucketful of drool :-S

  • -lip smack-

  • Oh my.. I didn't realize I made a pool of drool on the floor. hhhhhhhhh

  • Lol u called the sauce a jew... Lmao

  • @macfanleapord Au jus lol

  • I can tell you loved Julia..sweet

  • Made it for friends and the recipe worked perfectly. Don't jam-pack the herbs & lemon into the chicken and I think it should cook up as promised. Excellent!!

  • @stephaniecamp7

What did you do with the lemon and herbs if you didn't put them inside the chicken?

  • damn that chicken looks perfect

  • Oh my lord, will you please adopt me? i want to eat all of this so bad.

  • "You want to be haunted by Julia Child?"

    YES. YES I DO!

  • I think the final presentation would've looked a little better with the greens more visible on the platter... can barely see them. But great video all the same.

  • chill dude

  • i think i ran out of time

  • The best chicken is when you use herbs in a reynolds oven bag....the flavor infuses and the meat is juicy and tender. Then you cut open bag so skin is exposed for last 20 mins and the skin gets nice and crispy...yum.

  • That chicken has a deep ass

  • Nice ..I tried great...gorgeous

  • YUMMY!

  • OMG THIS IS DELICOUS I TRIED IT ! OMG THNKS :D

  • Wanna know how I get to eat this?

"MOM! Im hungry, GO MAKE ME FOOD"

  • that looks so goddamned good.

  • the lemons on the inside kept my chicken from getting fully cooked. The rest of the bird was done and there was still blood running out of the middle... my chicken is ruined. Don't stuff the chicken.

  • NUBBINS!

  • Do you want to be haunted by Julia Child? I didn't think so.

  • This definitely brings up good memories of cooking with my grandmother while watching Julia.

  • This was from "Julia Child Cooking with Master Chefs" from the early 90s. This is not Julia's Roast Chicken. It is Jerimiah Tower's. Julia hosted the show, but didin't cook. For Julia's REAL Roast Chicken: Remove the wish bone, fold wings akimbo and place on rack in pan, rub 2 tbs BUTTER all over chicken, salt and pepper chicken all over, insert desired flavorings into cavity. Brown for 15 min at 425, reduce heat to 350 basting ever 8-10 min until juices run clear about 1hr 20 min.

  • hehe nubins

  • he wants to fuck julias dead body

  • You make this look so easy

  • The stores don't carry big chickens because they're tasteless... made huge through hormone manipulation and "plumping."

If you get free-range/organic chickens, they're never as big as the industrial factory-farm chickens. But they taste SO MUCH BETTER.

  • you made it look so pretty...6:13

  • That looks so freakin good!

  • this recipe looks unbelievably delicious!

  • i like my chicken with tart jews

  • THIS IS DISGUSTING

  • it looks so good! thanks for this video!

  • just watched Julie & Julia, just remembered about this video when watching the film.

  • Looks great!

  • Looks tastey!

  • This made me so hungry...

  • SIMPLE!?look ho wmany frigin ingerdients that thing has >.>

  • 21 people are haunted by Julia

  • man you one lucky guy you gonna eat some awesome food

  • I've tried it and its absolutely perfect! my very first successful roast chicken!

  • @noccii was it reallyy realllyyyyy good? was the chicken flavorful or just the skin? i hate buying roast chicken from the stores because the skin is oily and the inside of the chicken is pretty flavor-less.

  • did you throw away the onions?

  • can anyone list down what are all the ingredient for me?

  • hmm ,...ok ,...... awright, that looks delicious,..but, what do the CHICKENS think about this dish?, hmmm?,.....comments?....

  • @eudaemonian hmm... ok... who gives a shit?

  • I never comment on videos... but this dude is so dope.. so simple, so amazing... Everything he touches turns into Delish

  • I made this today and it was gorgeous. Highly recommended. Julia was 6' 2"?

  • @nmzag1 im glad it was gorgeous but how did it TASTE -_-

  • Drool.

  • Lovely recipe, but the vegetable is WaterCRESS, not watercrest! LOL!

  • Perfect!

  • Omg my mouth is watering. Why am I watching this video at 1 in the morning??

  • I'm coming to You Tube soon! Request recipes and Sub now!

  • I made this yesterday and drove my dogs and neighbors mad with desire.

  • amazing indeed yummy

  • Thumbs up if this video was your introduction to Chef John.

  • @gobo760 noob

  • @IamHexxorz =P

  • @IamHexxorz lolzz

  • You made this look so good, thanks for the tips!!! Keep up the good work Chef!

  • I'm going with this tonight. Couldn't get the watercrest greens so, subbing with fresh spinach. Also, no special oil. Going with light olive oil. Yet again, subbing new potatos with red potato because my local grocery store seems to suck the big one.

  • I made this and it turned out AMAZING!!! This is the best chicken I've ever made, hands down! Maybe even the best I've ever had!

  • Oh Hello Juilia!!! i MISS YOUR SHOWS!!!

  • her last name was Child. No "s". No " 's".

  • @thinkbigize In order to say that the recipe is hers you must put " 's " after the name. It's just English grammar you know.

  • @aaRept Your statement is correct. However, several times during the video he refers to her by the name "Julia Childs," which was not her name you know.

  • This looks delicious!

  • mmm....yummy!

  • Every time I watch Chef John's video's....my stomach literally growls. If only I could eat what he just made every time!! :)

  • I just made this and it came out delicious! Thank you so much for posting this recipe!

  • Hi, if I were to use only chicken thighs rather than a whole chicken, what temperature and how long should i be baking it?

  • Wow... That chicken recipe is so simple and it looks so damn good...

  • there is an h herb.

  • I love ALL you tutorials! You make everything look so easy!

  • mouth watery........:)

  • This guy has got such a sexy voice. He could date a girl on the phone ans still pull it off.

  • Whether it Childs, Child's or Childs', it looks to die for! Thanks for uploading, Chef John!

  • I am melting!!!!!!!!!!!! YUHMMY!!!

  • Does it still taste good if i dont have any herbs...?

  • Why not replace them if they cut off their wings looool

  • i would really love to be haunted by julia child's ghost. esp. when i am cooking. ratatouille~ everyone can cook!!!

  • uuuuuuuuuu i wanna eat!

  • I think julia childs ghost would be pretty scary

  • John, I gave this a shot the other day.. I didn't even know I was capable of making something this delicious!!! I had to cook it a little longer than you did, and I substituted spinach for watercress.

  • very good i have to say....mouthwatering ;)

  • So so awesome! The more that the Food Network tries to "up the ante" the more genius Julia Child becomes. She was fantastic! Chef John, you did a great job. Love your videos.

  • love your vids man but it's Julia Child, not "Childs"

  • @jhiller21 Not if it's plural. Julia's chicken. Therefor, Julia Child's chicken.

  • @gretch33 Honey you mean possessive form, not plural. :)

  • @jhiller21

Hmmm, if you are going to be a grammar nazi, make sure you get your grammar correct. He has used Child's, NOT Childs, and he is correct in meaning the recipe that belongs to Julia Child. You seem to have missed the apostrophe, making it the possessive.

Julia Child's Roast Chicken....thanks again Chef John, I look forward to all your recipes and use many of them to treat my family and friends.

  • @slyder25 He also says 'watercrest' instead of 'watercress'.

  • @slyder25 He also says 'watercrest' instead of 'watercress'. And no, he repeatedly says Childs, and in these contexts he could not have meant Child's.

  • @slyder25 WOW, focus on the mole-hill and make it into a mountain. A true PETTY chef. lol

  • @slyder25 I like the term " Grammar Nazi "

  • @slyder25 in other words, that guy who wrote that is a tard.

  • @JohnsLazy Sounds like it.

  • I'm a newly married man, and want to impress my wife for Valentines Day dinner. i've been doing well with a bunch of recipes found on youtube. Would anyone suggest this recipe for the occasion? If not, what Julia recipe would people anyone recomment? also, any dessert recipe suggestions?

  • @danny115tau you could try chef john's chocolate hot stone recipe for valentines dessert

  • Made the roasted chicken as showed. Made the roasted red potatoes. Use the drippings and chicken broth to made gravy. Had a side salad with raspberry dressing because didn't have the water crest. Wheat dinner rolls. It was the best roasted chicken I've ever had or made. Was very easy meal

    Thank you, I'm stuffed

  • You did a Great Job Thank you for giving Julia back to u for a moment s in preparing this delicious Dish.

    Regards,

    DJ

  • Well Nothing like a good roasted chicken. The big Perdue Oven Stuffer Roasters run about 6 lbs. I will try this recipe, on Sunday. Nice touch with Julia at the end. All the Current TV chefs and You Tube Chefs owe a lot to Julia.

  • Small chickens taste better.
