Paul's contribution to this song has always been underestimated, I think. There's a telling audio bootleg somewhere in which you can hear George asking Paul to help him develop the lyric. Although George had already written the tune, he only had the first line of lyric (which in turn had come from James Taylor) and he said he had been stuck for months, unsuccessfully trying to take it further.
People are allowed to have their own opionon on Paul McCartney. I personally went through a hate-Paul stage, but i'm over it. He was a valued member of the best band everrrrr..

Proves McCartney worked on this as much as his bass guitar. It sounds exactly the same as the final version. It blows my mind how much that SOB did everything he could to trip George up, the greatest example him putting that out of tune synth on Here comes the sun. He was a dick back then and he`s a dick today. Jackass can`t even write one single good song.
what are you talking about you idiot. something has some of the greatest bass work of all time or atleast of all the beatles material, it's what help make the the song so great. i hate beatle fans that talk shit about mccartney(a guy who wrote songs like hey jude yesterday let it be eleanor rigby)
Are you kidding?? Paul didn't try to trip anybody up, every song was a Beatles song and he wanted the Beatles to be the best band in the world did he not? His only flaw is that he got carried away sometimes in trying to be THE BEST. No problem with that anyway, is there?
As for not writing good songs?? Surely you're joking? He's arguably the greatest composer of all time. Hey Jude, Yesterday, Here There and Everywhere, Eleanor Rigby and on the other extreme: Helter Skelter, Yellow Submarine
Paul did nothing but improve and improve and improve the Beatles until there was nothing left to improve.
The bass on this song is amazing and in all videos I've seen of George's songs, Paul seems to be the one playing on them and encouraging it. Paul played a great lead guitar on "Taxman" did he not?
I listen to Paul McCartney tunes in and out of the Beatles and they take my breath away. "Backseat of my Car" is a brilliant solo one.
Any 'Paul hate' is ridiculous. It's just ambition.
@msradx i'm going to have to disagree with all overall. Playing a great solo and making it are two different things, George made the solo. Paul just played it. Paul's songs are the most boring and catchy I think, although of course he is a great musician. Paul and John together is amazing. I can't disagree with the bass comments, he's a great bassist. Paul was very money entertained, he bossed George around very much for royalties and such. John and George are the most important Beatles to me
I am a huge fan of Wings....just shows that if the Beatles had remained intact those Wings tracks (while good) would have had that Beatles studio touch...along with all solo material from all
Are all the 'Paul wasn't that important' people aware of the basslines on I Want You (She's so Heavy) and Come Together?

It's interesting here to also hear the Beatles jamming the riff from "Remember" which would eventually surface on John's "Plastic Ono Band" album.
