132 people (as of 2012/3/7) clicked the 'Dislike' or 'thumbs-down' button.
Incredible that 132 people found something they didn't like in an effort to bridge worlds together in harmony.
When every soul begins to search for, savor and celebrate our ability to produce beauty, we'll experience a far more healthy, peaceful world. I invite all 132 'thumbs-downers' to - maybe for just an hour after reading this post - to search, discover and celebrate their own beauty!
Actually the dislikers have no desire to find anything positive in life so by ignoring them they will go mad. That's the best way to dislike THEM. Those of us who find beauty in the world will thrive.
WOW, this video is so jaw dropping. I'm in astounding, it's a beautiful way that show that through music, we're all connected. There are other ways of course, but music is a powerful way of showing connection with the world.
So my choir teacher showed us this, said he hung out with him in collage and crap lol thinkin hes so cool now dont you? ;) lol haha we should learn this
We sang this in our top high school choir when I was in 9th grade. It's so hard to imagine that a bunch of 15 and 16 year olds sounded like this but we really did thanks to our amazing choir director. She's so amazing and we just all love eric whitacre so much. We also sang Lux Aurumque and we won the best rating in our state competiton against schools including college students and seniors. This is my all time favorite choir song and I don't think I'll ever sing something so beautiful again.
Mr. whitacre might i say this is the utmost best music composure ive ever heard lustening to this brought me a sense of peace. i thank you for createing such an amazing peice of art.
Heh....it's almost like a vague hint of prophecy. Like a single person dreaming of the thousands of faces that would eventually become the virtual choir.
Eric Whitacre has a fucking VEVO. What is this world coming to? Now, I like the fact that some neo-classical music is becoming somewhat more popular, but now contemporary composers are signing up with VEVO? WTF?! Fuck you, VEVO: the cancer of musical artists on YouTube. Anyhow, this is still an outstandingly beautiful song, so don't get me wrong; I still love his music.
I have a strange feeling that the multitude of human voices as in this video is akin to the 'music of the spheres' the sound, believed by some/many, made by the planets of our solar system communicating with each other. The crescendo towards the end is divine and awesome. Is this the sound that we can hear in our subconcious, the music from space?
Absolutely stunning! I thought "Lux Aurumque" was amazing, but this performance is a couple of light years beyond the first virtual choir. This is my favorite Whitacre piece. I first heard it on "Music Through the Night." I woke from a deep sleep to "Sleep," and faded back to sleep as the ending faded away. It was an unearthly experience. And it still is.
The next time I hear someone say that technology isolates us, I will share this incredible video and project. As a serious student of the power of connection, this is thrilling and exquisite on so many levels. Thank you.
Mr. Whitacre, I want you to know I showed this to my 7th graders this morning, and they were entranced! If you know that age group, that's a HUGE undertaking to get them to listen to anything that wasn't produced by a "pop star." In MY opinion, you are the next big deal in music, Sir. I am looking forward to attempting to take part in "Water Night." Wishing you all the best for a fabulous next project!
@sisterg975musik - The Water Night project is already in production so we hope you'll join us for Virtual Choir 4 in the Fall. You can sign up for email updates on Eric Whitacre's site. The Water Night VC3 premiere is April 2. : )
@greggood2013 I disagree. "Pop" and other popular genres are not destroying the classical genre. The beauty of this music will always exist, even if there are few listeners. I do agree that other genres, particularly "Pop", are decreasing the amount of people willing/capable of appreciating this kind of beauty. But we are living proof that this music is here to stay. :)
My comment got erased, so I will say it again :) I am a 220 pound senior, who was a lineman in football, wrestler, shot putter, and weight lifting team record holder. And I am proud to be in the school choir.
@skemsen I highly disagree with this statement. With sound editing techniques like filtering, equalizing, and compressing, it is possible to do even with the poor sound quality of webcams. These techniques allow you to minimize white noise created in these recordings albeit not perfectly but it is still possible to achieve this project.
@skemsen You have disappointed me, in fact. Perhaps I'm naive and I like to believe what I see is exactly as it appears... This video moved me to tears (literally) and afterward, I pop down to the comment section and see this... Thank you for destroying the spell I was under.
How can anyone listen to and watch this video and not believe in a Higher Power, whom I choose to call God. Beautiful, inspirational, and thought provoking.
This is amazing! And, what a great idea. If you can pull together a "one world choir" like this...I'm certain that what we are capable of achieving is limited only by our imaginations. Can we all speak as one voice? Can we all know the harmony of empathy...or the rhythm of life, or the melody of a global consciousness or the timbre of God???
Oh I miss singing like this. Simply beautiful. How blessed these people are to be able to work with one another from all over the world and make music like this. I would love to be a part of this.
Mr. WHitacre, I want to commend you on one of the most fantastic pieces of music I have ever heard. This idea of yours and bringing together the voices of so many people from around the world is quite inspirational. This is truly a world choir and a wonderful representation of human kind. You did a great job abd the singers, themselves did a great job. It makes me proud that I can sing.
If anyone wonders why this is a Vevo video, the answer is easy.
It took a team of 4 professionals a month of near full time work to produce the audio and visual of what you just saw, as well as costs for running the website and staffing used to coordinate submissions. Vevo does not always mean profit, occasionally it barely equals cost recovery. This is not a commercial venture, and no-one makes a dime of profit from it.
The Virtual Choir is not a monetized product, but a gift to the world.
The thickest and most wonderful harmonies I have ever heard. Masterful composing, singing, and sound engineering make for tears in my eyes and happiness in my ears!
@dboydof09 ....I think it is also suspended, with the 4th being played instead of the 3rd in the chord...or they could be played at the same time...not sure, but did my best.
I'm from Canada. I'm in our High School Choir. Our Conductor has been saying they've been hearing people say our Choir can't pull it off. I now practice the 1st Bass every night before I go to sleep. To prove one wrong, one must try before one does.
I love this video because after whoever is playing this on the piano is doing it beautifully and I cant help but listen after the choral song is over. Thats probably just me
@vlmjr94 That would be a computer program-- a "virtual instrument" designed to sound like a piano, playing MIDI-- the digital version of sheet music. Sorry to burst your bubble. :P
Lets take this moment to appreciate the music that we listen to. Here we are, listening to the one of the most beautiful choral pieces ever composed in history, while the rest of the nation is listening to "I'm Sexy and I Know it." We need to be grateful for our ability and blessing to enjoy such unbelievable masterpieces by none other than the genius human we call Eric Whitacre. I am DAMN proud to be apart of this community.
@EnergyOfANewBreed Well from what you said to me I can already tell that from your use of harsh language and name calling you are too immature to understand, but I'll try. It is very possible to enjoy both types of music. I have many friends that do. But you have to understand that genres such as "pop" and "hip hop" are destroying the classical genre (what you you hear in this video). Music like "Sleep" has a tiny minority in what people listen to, and I personally think that is sad.
this is just beautiful. truly just sheer beauty. the music, the visuals, bringing people from all over the world together and uniting them through music. there are no words for this. just magic.
@JuneChild88 So true, this brought tears (mind you very happy tears) to my eyes. This is a wonderfully powerful piece and I think what gets me is it's a perfect example of the power of the web to connect people across countries and the entire world to make something that sweeps you away.
dear vevo: when I listen to this at midnight, it's because I find this song relaxing and want to go to sleep. So when you play your LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS AD...
This song gives me chills. The good kind. The ones that crawl up your spine and make your hair stand on end with wonder and amazement. The kind that make you smile in delight at the beauty that you can find in the world if you only open your eyes and look for it.
I am a 220 pound senior, who was a lineman in football, wrestler, weight lifting team member, and shot putter. And I am proud to be in the school choir.
Holy shitballs, that chord-harmony thing at 1:07 is so awesome, it gives me chills every time. It's like a chord composed of every note in an octave yet it still sounds extremely good. Love this!
This is my absolute favorite piece of choral music. I remember hearing it for the first time, it was life changing. I even remember begging my director to let us try singing it. To this day, it gives me chills and reminds me of how badly I miss being a part of something so magical. Thank you so much for creating it.
This sound so POWERFUL and moving... I have loved this since the first time I heard this, and had the pleasure of then performing it in high school. Eric Whitacre is incredible, and I look forward to listening to all of his music after this masterpiece!
IN QUETO VIDEO SI ESPRIME AL MASSIMO IL POTERE DELLA RETE CHE RENDE VICINE LE DISTANZE E RENDERE LA COLLABORAZIONE UNIVERSALE. UNA PORTA CHE PUO' ALTERARE IL PENSIERO E NEL'IMMEDIATO ANCHE LA REALTA'. IO HO SENTITO DEI BRIVIDI E MI HA COMMOSSA. THANKYOU
Why the hell are there dislikes? This is groundbreaking - if you have no feelings or sense about what connects us all as humans, then get back under your rock and stop disliking things for no reason.
My high school played Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre at Midwest last year, the wind symphony at least. and of course, to my misfortune, THIS year was my first year in the top band, as a sophomore. it pains me to see that i missed one of the biggest opportunities of my life. i want to become a music major and imagine that on a resume? i really wish i couldve taken my first real high school audition seriously. well, we all have to learn something the hard way once in a while
Pretty remarkable, although Im glad Eric Whitacre is stressing the attention to detail when it comes to breath, dynamics and cut offs in his 'Visual Choir 3.' Although this is absolutely amazing and it sounds beautiful- there could have been a higher level of musicality in the overall piece. Im very excited to both listen and be a part of the next virtual choir WATER NIGHT!!!
We are playing this composed by eric witacre for a band... And let me say, it is one of the hardest peices to get. But when you get a piece like this, it engulfs you, and you feel it. And you never forget that feeling. It makes you a better player.
Earlier this year my chorus instructor announced that we'd be performing this piece and played a recording of it for us. It instantly became a favorite. I find myself singing it to myself every now and again.... So many unusual chords and amazing arrangement... Hands down the greatest song I've ever sang in chorus.
this is why music like this is still alive because when one man has a dream he fights for it no matter how long or hard it may be im 13 in mississippi and im in a school band and i never thought that ever was done but wow
1:18 IT'S IF GOD'S NOT REAL WHO WROTE THE BIBLE GIRL!!!!!!!!!!! xD OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE DID THIS!!!!!!!!

This song gives me chills. The good kind. The ones that crawl up your spine and make your hair stand on end with wonder and amazement. The kind that make you smile in delight at the beauty that you can find in the world if you only open your eyes and look for it.

Holy shitballs, that chord-harmony thing at 1:07 is so awesome, it gives me chills every time. It's like a chord composed of every note in an octave yet it still sounds extremely good. Love this!

This is fantastic. One of the downsides of not being in one place is the sssssssss, though.

THANKYOU

Almost two thousand individual people coming together with that amount of sound unison and correct diction.... This is just amazing.
