  • i was at work today and this came on the radio and it made me feel strange n happy for 3nhalf mins love this song ....

  • What a voice. Quality - pure quality. Eat your heart out all you moron X-Factor idiots, just listen to a true artist.

  • I was ten when this came out! In between listening to Stiff Little Fingers and the Skids, my Dad played me Gerry Rafferty , Van Morrison , Eagles and Genesis .. Now I have all those people on my iPod .... My kids think they're cool as well and have downloaded some of the above ! Talent is talent and can stand the test of time. This song still is magical.

  • For me, the best bit of this track is between 0.01 and 3.49. Top track from a top bloke, RIP Gerry.

  • what an superb bit of music + years on,

    timeless

  • In fact look at it as a perfect recording session

No bullshit, vanity.egos to smother the gig

There are reasons why they are kbown as legendary musicians

  • Brilliant video

Talented artists playing music and totally taking Raffertys lead

    Respect!!!

  • @Andewsfarm Do you think that is what older people said about 70s music? I bet they did. Todays IS junk though you are right.

  • @Andewsfarm yes he had a special evocotive tone. So much of what passes for modern music completely lacks feeling doesnt it?

  • Brill

  • Great song.. Great music..

  • Guitar picking sequence is heavenly.

    R.I.P. Gerry Rafferty

  • "Lost in dreams, in a whirlpool of shadows"

    Gerry R.I.P.

  • @nomadawn Feel your pain! Lost my Dad last year..lost Gerry this year! Gone are the days of drinking on a Sunday afternoon after the pub having a sing-song wi' my Auld Man listening to Gerry! :( C'est la Vie i suppose...

  • This is one of my all time favourites with many memories of 79, and I think an excellent timeless tune. RIP Gerry and thank you for the music.

  • @Pearmain2009 Yeah me too; it came out at the beginning of the summer, and I used to like to watch the flow of the river too, when I was feeling sad; that and listening to good music like this were what got me through. Hope Gerry finds some peace now, poor guy.

  • Pure class.

  • Beautiful song, that flute part sends shivers up my spine, that's how good it is. They surely don't make emotive music like this anymore. What a shame.

  • Who is the guy playing piano , between minutes 1.11 and 1.16 ???

    Please anybody informe me..!!

  • brilliant song this is, an absolute classic

out of interest, the guy on drums with that fantastic beard is Liam Genockey...some great photos if you google image him....

  • Gerry Rafferty Was an Absolute Talent in Constructing Tuneful Chords Flows... Hat Off!

  • gosh ! how many of you out there, find this song is your story, it cant be just me. But at my age of 53 ive become the person in a song on a jukebox, that I used to like the melody of , many years back.

  • Mo Foster!!! Well the best attract the best don't they!?!?

  • Surprised to hear of his passing away this past week. RIP Gerry, you had a truly unique voice.

  • Gerry Rafferty a talented man, who sadly had private demons and struggled with alcholism for years.

  • I get a little lonely when the sun gets low

I end up looking for somewhere to go

    I should know better

    I can't say no

  • What a great voice and unique talent this man had! it's not until they're gone you really appreciate just how good these songs are and how effortless he performs them. Many of the top (Overpaid) artists today arent fit to shine the shoes of Gerry Rafferty - My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. God bless Gerry - RIP

  • RIP Gerry

  • Looking at this video it strikes me how talented all the musicians gathered there for that recording really were

They love their art it's evident to all who watch this

Many great musicians emerged in the 70s before the disco era

  • @cetieel Good comment mate

There all rough round the edges, but talent oozing from every one of them!!

All relaxed and enjoying themselves, good times, shame Gerry lost the battle with alcholism

  • R.I.P. Gerry you had more talent in your little finger than these trashy artists of today who only focus on the visual not the content.

  • R.I.P Gerry

  • Totally shocked,as a scot now living in Eire I have on many occassions tried with may I add success to convert my Irish freinds with the music from the genius that was Gerry Rafferty, his voice was totally unique and I still remember all those years back in sunny Saltcoats buying City to City & Night Owl on vinyl from Woolies, played them till they were scratched to bit's.God bless you Gerry and may you now find the peace you deserve. thanks for the memories, Gibby

  • @HULAHOOPS1234 There are a few of us around, Gerry kept some of us enthrawled for years.

  • @clockworkaccordion

    Gibby

  • Always loved his voice. RIP Gerry Rafferty....the world is a better place having your music.

  • sleep tight Big man!!

  • Gerry Refferty had his demons, like many great songwriters. He sought refuge in alcohol to silence his demons. He is gone to the world of heaven.

  • R.I.P. Gerry ... Your legend shall live on for many.

  • Rest in peace Mr Rafferty.

  • The world has lost one of the greatest musicians, singers, and songwriters of all time. Rest in peace Gerry. Thanks for the incredible music over the years. Gerry's music touched so many people's lives.

  • RIP Gerry

  • god bless gerry RIP jan 4th 2011

  • One of my fav singers...RIP

  • RIP. Will be sadly missed.

  • nuff said !!!!!

  • i'm having some of that... every day of the week...

  • Oh and a saxophone player, almost forgot ha ha. Mel Collins i think it was if my memory serves me.

  • Excellent title track from arguably his best album but he's done so much fine music thru his career. Here's hoping he can make a fully recovery from his current health problems. I saw him at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall back in '93 and the gig was great. His band were superb - Liam Genocky (drums), Mo Foster (bass), Jerry Donahue & Hugh Burns (guitars), Kenny Craddock (RIP) (organ/keyboards) and a percussionist and backing singer.

  • Real musicianship & production. I hope Gerry pulls through his illness.

  • I hear Gerry Rafferty is in hospital having suffered kidney failure, is that right? I wish him all the best.

  • I love this song..it's a guilty pleasure of mine. It may be dated, but it still sounds great. Get well soon Mr Raferty.

  • @clonard a pleasure of mine too, but no way i feel guilty about it. all power to Mr Rafferty

  • Absolutely Superb! If this sort of tune doesn't move you, nothing will. Get better soon Gerry.

  • top draw

  • He was a terrific vocalist, vastly underrated.

  • love it, great times back then :-)

  • Absolutely great! Thanks alot for uploading!!!

  • Amazing stuff indeed!

  • Thank you, i love this song, my dad used to play it a lot when i was little.

  • Mo foster on bass wow

  • Epic.

  • Love hearing this song again from such a talented singer/songwriter. I am still partial to the album "Snakes and Ladders". Would love to see someone put up "Cafe Le Cabotin". Too many folks have already put the "Royal Mile" up on here from that fantastic album.

  • was one of my fav songs and bought that album as a kid, everyone always played baker street, but the intro to this is amazaing and brings scarily nostalgic feelings.

  • A musical gem from probably the best scottish musician to date - Im grateful I got the chance to see him and his 15 piece band at the Royal Concert Hall a number of years ago - baker street and night owl - live - were oustanding

  • its pretty funny actually.if this guy had done public tours at the time,he'd probably be the most famous/legendary musician alive right now.

  • ¡Qué joya rara! ¡gracias por subirla rtguitarfreak!

Such a rare jewel! thnx 4 posting rtguitarfreak!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. It is so RARE to see anything from Gerry Rafferty. It seems Gerry was a little camera shy in the 70's 80's and didn't do very many live performances. Anything posted here that shows live action singing from Gerry is a treat for sure. Thanks again for posting. If you have anything else, PLEASE POST as well.

  • Yeah, thanks for the heads up. Nice to hear and see a good quality version of the video.................
