its now just become a huge marketing scam to give you a day off work/school and make you buy a shit ton of food 'in the name of family' its bull shit. my family doesn't celebrate any holidays and i'm %100 cool with that, but when i was little we created our own 'holiday' and it was named after our family name and we would rent a place every year and have it just for family it was like a better christmas because it wasn't all fake and it was in the spring.
In my family Thanksgiving is about family, food and getting together and being thankful for the little things in life. We dont really celebrate the indian and pilgrim thing. Before we eat, we do the prayer then we all say 3 things we're thankful for.
I completly agreee, I personaly don't celibrate it eather. It is the same idea as St. Patricks day, it is the celibration of st. patrick driving the "snakes" out of irland...In other words Killing Pagans in the name of christianity.
Great video, I am happy to see others who share my idea of the holidays celebration of a genocide of a people.
a lot of my mom's side of the family is cherokee and from my dad's side we have some european culture stuff as well, (i can't remember what they are right now)
i think the only reason both sides of my family do the thanksgiving thing is to get the family together. ive never been real into it, i think its kinda lame.
my dad's side is really conservative, hard core "keep america the way it is" and i am not like that at all. they don't want equal rights for everyone and that pisses me off because a lot of people that i know are gay and its not fair for me to have rights (marriage etc) that they don't have right now.
i think thanksgiving for them is more like political bashing day
yea, my mother and i are native ameri can. we dont celebrate thanksgiving, its more of a mourning day. we just made an altar with candles and inscents for our native american anscesotors.
I dont really celebrate either .. the "idea" of thanksgiving .. giving thanks is a good thing .. but you should be thankful everyday .. however the idea of the genocide makes me uncomfortable
Thanksgiving is an anglo holiday. I think most of non-anglo ethnicity who celebrate do it because it's an "American" thing to do. It's part of assimilating into the culture. Since me and my brothers have grown up and gone our own ways, Thanksgiving became the holiday of family gathering/reunion, rather than Christmas. That's what it means to us. We're not celebrating the Pilgrims or the Mayflower or any of that nonsense. we're just celebrating the one time of the year we're all together.
told my mom that he was glad he could enlighten her. and he was serious. He really did think that even with all the horrible things Americans have done, that America is still the best, the perfect example of perfection. In truth, no country/culture is completely innocent. There are good and bad people everywhere from every background and type.
I agree with you. Americans have a bad habit of thinking Americans are the best, having never done anything wrong. Once my mom went to this church thing where this guy talked about how great America was and how wonderful we have always been as a collected people. My mom of course gave him quite a few reasons of why Americans are not that great, including how we treated Native Americans, and immigrants, and slaves, and Asians. After getting a short history on the atrocities of America the man...
I totally agree, but thats christians for you. Brain washing it its best. I celebrate christmas, but not for religious reasons, its the only time I get to see my family. I dont know much about thanks giving I'm afraid!
It's just as bad to generalize an entire religion as it is to generalize a country. Not all Christians are brainwashers just as not all Americans are completely uncultured.
I've always celebrated Thanksgiving, but it was never about pilgrims and whatnot for my family and I. It was about family getting together.
This video was awesome, I'm reeeally happy to hear you talk about what Thanksgiving really is. Subscribed!

Thanksgiving has evolved into a day to be thankful for what you have and if you lucky its food, family and friends.

of course my mom was not "enlightened" and instead was shocked that someone like him could be so blind.
