Jews(Hyksos) account of their enslavement is untrue. They were invaders who enslaved the natives & when they're driven out of Egypt they left rich. Fuelled by racism & resentment they told a lie. For the true written historical archeological account review the two videos ‘Ashra Kwesi Explains the Invasions and Battles of Kemet (Egypt) from the Ancient Temples’ and the ‘Lying Hebrew Israelite (NO hebrew slaves working in Egypt)’ and cross reference them. However, he was not the first to bring Negro spirituals to the concert stage, as you write in your text on top. That honor goes to the courageous Fisk University Jubilee Singers, who took their songs on a fundraising tour in 1871, barely staving off the school's financial ruin.
@zorl89peekay Hello--I was also named after this song in 1949. My mother wanted to name me Lindy Lou, but my Aunt Jean talked her into changing my name to Linda Jean at the eleventh hour. My family and friends call me Lindy and Lindy Lou to this day.
@zorl89peekay WOW, my Dad told me if I had been a girl he was going to name me LindyLou. I am curious as to whether my Dad has similarities to either of your parents.
This lovely song has made my day even though it's rainy and dreary outside, the charm of the music lifts us right out of the doldrums - guaranteed! ;- )
Delighted to find this. When very young my father brought home a pile of old 78's he found at a jumble sale and this was amongst them. I loved it, especially the rhythm of it, and sang along. That would be early 50's. No one sang as deeply as Paul Robeson or with such a tone. Thank you.
Compared to G-C, Kline, and the 1948 Robeson version, this is the most swinging rendition of "Lindy Lou." It has a youthful energy that contrasts nicely with the charmingly sentimental lyrics. Thanks, meltzerboy, for sharing, and many thanks to edmundusrex for posting!

The best of the best. Paul is alive and well in Lawrence Beaman, on "America's Got Talent" on NBC. Monday evening!

Endearing Robeson performance of the song. He was quite a master of song in so many languages. Equally charming is Galli-Curci's rendition on YT.

I hope they let this one stay. One of the other channels is no longer and he had most of Paul's songs posted.
