thank u jimcrackz for your comment I laughed so hard I stopped breathing...... I didn't expect that lol! GREAT VIDEO tho guys! COFFEE IS a diuretic.... all things containing coffee are.
is coffee a diuretic.. cause everyone is confusing me and some are saying it is and some are saying its not but i remember being taught caffeine was a diuretic ..so is it?
Loop diuretics are the most indicated for heart failure, as they have the greatest effect - thiazides and carbonic anyhdrase inhibitors are weak, while Epithelial Sodium Channel Inhibitors like Amiloride only contribute 2% of the overall Sodium load - just as weak.
For loop diuretics, 3 potassium atoms flow in from the lumen side and 2 potassium from the interstitium side. The 5 k atoms then flow out into the lumen through a potassium channel. How does a loop diuretic cause potassium to be lost in the lumenal urine? Thinking it through, there should be more potassium in the interstitium b/c 2 k atoms will cease to be dumped into the cell then dumped out of the k channel. Unless there is increased volume flow w/c washes away everything faster
Having studied in many different countries I've been faced with a plethora of pronunciations for scientific and medical terms. I've learned the way one pronounces, or spells, words in one area may not at all be like they do in another.
Simple Examples:
Respiratory
Skeletal
Fetal vs. Foetal
Esophagus vs Oesophagus
I've noticed these differ not only between countries but clinics, profs, etc. Better to just let an alternative pronunciation slide as it shows a lack of diversity in your education.
@sydcansam I couldn't agree more. People doing this are usually showing their ignorance when they argue that their way to mispronounce some Latin or Greek word is better than someone else's way to mispronounce it.
@sydcansam There's no need to be snippy. They've put together a very easy to understand presentation and the few words which they may have pronounced "not to your liking" are already spelled out (e.g. Interstitium).
Thanks for making Renal Physiology so easily comprehensible!
The first, the comment you are replying to was posted in December 2008.
Secondly, I don't think you read my comment. Either that or you missed the message completely. My comment was to a fellow commenter who questioned the video's accuracy based solely on the alternate pronunciation of some terms. I pointed out the pronunciation doesn't really matter as it differs between countries, years, schools/clinics, and individuals, etc.
Thax for doing this video. It has been a GREAT help to me. Very clear to understand. It catered to me...I'm such a visual and hands on person. Great job!!

Excellent explanation. But, it takes some knowledge to understand well.
What is amazing is how the researchers were able to come up with this type of knowledge and then work out how to control it!
